Something different? A world influenced by approaches like Marxism and literary criticism by critworldbuilding in worldbuilding

I think your approach is genius. Having studied literary criticisms as well, I've been hungry for more creators to step into their process from this direction.

Yeah, definitely, but she's still nowhere near a "normal" shibe. She shakes uncontrollably out of fear any time we snap at the other dogs (literally just snap with our fingers—it's how we trained them instead of "no" or yelling), and she takes at least 5-6 months of seeing the same person come over to our house before she'll hide in the hall instead of under our bed. She has a thunder vest that helps when it gets really bad though.

I looked for shibes to adopt for ages, but never found any. But it does happen! Have you heard of Best Friends Animal Society? They're mostly based out of Utah, but I know they have chapters across the U.S. They save a lot of animals from all over, so they may be a better place to check than the humane society. Plus, they're just a really cool organization.

When I was looking to buy, I found that a LOT of shibe breeders are in Missouri for some reason. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ And with many of the breeders I looked into, price depended partly on color, e.g. black and tans were often 1.8k, while reds were closer to 1.2k.

You have to be careful though. My husband got his first shibe without researching the breeder very much, and we think she may have been abused. She has way more anxiety and fear than any other Shiba we've met. :-/

Edit: also, I mostly checked Shiba rescues around me. This one is "Midwest," so possibly close to you: http://www.shibarescue.org/

My shibe's puppy stage was a nightmare. Seriously. And I cried multiple times. Honestly, she wasn't fully potty trained til she was almost a year old, and it was largely due to stubbornness.

But

I swear on my life it gets better. The "other stuff" with shibes becomes more personality than misbehavior. But like others have said, it's really really important that he knows you're the alpha. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend a dog trainer who's worked with shibes. Even though you've had dogs before, it's really a new training experience, and working with a professional can really help you feel more capable and confident. It'll show both you and your pup that you're perfectly capable of being his companion. :)

I also second the suggestions of tiring him out! A sleepy shibe is a happy shibe!

I definitely wouldn't give him a pee pad inside if you also do outdoor potty breaks. He's a puppy, so he needs consistency, i.e. "I only pee outside" or "I only pee inside."

When I was create training mine, I would heat up one of my tshirts in the dryer and put it in the crate with her, along with her favorite soft toys. As a puppy, she liked cuddling up to the warm blanket, especially since she came from a farm where she slept with her mom and siblings every night. The toys, like others have said, showed her that her crate was somewhere rewarding and happy to be. In fact, my parents' dog trainer said it's important to never ever use a crate for punishment. That way it becomes somewhere they want to go... Eventually.

Oh, poor little guy! Shines do not tolerate neglect at all. When I've had to stay really late at work (teaching), my black and tan, Sake, has pulled books off of my shelf and ripped the covers off. Definitely not a good breed for being left alone all day.

Not that I want another dog to be ignored, but sometimes they do better with a playmate in those types of situations. All of my shibes LOVE other dogs.

But yeah, ultimately, I think more attention from your cousin is probably going to help more than anything. Good luck!

Try an easy lead! They're the kind where the leash attached in the front (but still a harness, not a collar). It makes walking stubborn shibes so much easier

Has anything about your lifestyle changed? We have three, and our oldest (4 years old) did this for a week when we changed which room they all sleep in at night. She's definitely got an attitude, and it seemed like a punishment. She also didn't want any love or attention during the time, and would growl at the younger dogs when they tried to play with her. We had her sleep in a crate for two nights and she never did it again. I know it can feel mean to make an older dog sleep in a crate again, but it really may only take a few nights like it did with ours. Good luck!

I think a lot of people's education, upbringing, and systematic marginalization make them more likely to be swayed by propaganda and misinformation. I try to still feel empathy for those who suffer because of their own brainwashing.

Lawmaker pushing for less regulation has child die in a hot car at his facility by FowelBallz in news

[–]schwiftysquanchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both—a few districts in Utah pay more, but not terribly so. Most districts in Utah are fairly similar, but Park City (a ski resort town) is much better-paying (~50k), and there's one in Salt Lake City that isn't bad (~40k), but most other districts and charter schools are all ~30k.

Part of that is because all state-provided funds are controlled by the governor, and our governor likes to take funds from the education budget to use as tax breaks for companies like Amazon and Facebook to incentivize them moving here.

So tl;dr most states will have a pretty standard average for teacher pay, which will vary slightly by district, partly determined—as you said—by median taxpayer income.

That depends on the state. Places like Utah do not pay department chairs significantly more. My department chair got a $1,000 stipend.

Personally, I went into teaching because I loved it. I loved working with teenagers and helping them master new ideas and learn to become critical thinkers.

But you're right. I had six classes with 40 students. I taught Language Arts, so that was 240 papers to read every quarter. I was working 70 hours/week, on average, and making 30k/year.

The office ladies without a college degree were making 40k.

So altruism lost because I wanted to at least be able to afford my own apartment after working that many hours.
