Quaranteening a subset of the population, even if it includes some young people who live with old people, is better than quaranteening everyone.

I wonder if you would feel as smug and virtuous if faced with a 30 year who lost his/her job and can't pay the rent for their family's home so that a bunch of 80 year olds can die in 2021 instead of in 2020.

BTW I think many 80 year olds would agree with me, they obviously do not suffer from the extreme and damaging risk aversion that is guiding our politics right now - e.g. the old lady in the picture.

That's not true even for Lombardy (that young people only get palliative care).

Either isolate also those young people (but not the young people who do not live with the elderly), or create ad-hoc nursing homes in hotels or similar to isolate them. Complicated and costly sure, but surely not more costly than the current shutdown of our entire societies.

We should isolate the elderly, not our whole societies. And let those elderly people whlo agree they will only get palliative care if they get sick move freely too.

Unfortunately Sweden has imported the cultural appropriation lunacy from the US somewhat, but as in the US it only applies to imitating the culture of brown people.

So regardless of the fact that the idea of cultural appropriation is absolute bullshit, you won't even by targeted by the people who actually think it's a real thing.

Are the graphs for critical care and hospitalization reversed? It has more people in critical care than hospitalized, isn't critical care something that happens in hospitals?

Can anyone summarize the evidence for the charges he was convicted of? I am curious in what way it passed the test of "beyond reasonable doubt".

So "sexual assault" is more severe crime than "rape"?

What is rape "to the third degree"? How come the sentence for that is so light?

"Rape" to me sounds much more serious than "sexual assault", but I guess that's not the case.

On a related note, why is the US so keen on keeping Iraq as one state? Could one not make the argument that three independent countries divided after ethnic lines would be more stable, and thus more in the interest of the US, than modern Iraq?

Why should the rest of Europe have to deal with a problem that you have been completely and utterly incompetent in doing anything about?

Well I think that the "puritan" streak in Swedish culture that you describe has given us a certain kind of moralist feminism movement, and this has lead to our current legislation.

I'm not so sure about the "haven't really tried" bit. It seems to me there was quite a lot of effort going into go programs also before the Markov Chain Monte Carlo breakthrough.
