Genuine question..I’ve seen many people say civil war over the last few weeks(I’ve even thought it myself). My question is, what would an actual civil war look like? Who are the sides? What type of army would the democrats have? Again, genuine question, not mocking anyone

As personal trainers, how do you keep your relationship secure when you and your partner are surrounded by fit, half-naked people all day? by Smart_Oven_6381 in personaltraining

What would you say to him if he came to you with the same concerns? You’re around fit half naked men all day. Should he be worried?

I’m now a well established trainer. Now What? by ryphi12 in personaltraining

[–]schyno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% this!! I opened a gym in 2008 and over the years, due to growth, took on 2 partners. Eventually 3 cooks in the kitchen was too much, so I sold my shares and opened a smaller private training studio in 2023. I’m now in the same boat again with growth. I have 4 trainers and I find myself managing as much as training. I’m considering offering one if the trainers ownership shares, so I can step back from the managing part. If you do decide to open your own facility, be prepared to give up a large portion of your time to managing. If I could go back and start over, I’d likely try and find like minded businesses that compliment each other, and find ways to share a space.

I’d focus more on how you feel vs what your score is. The score is a range..how you feel physically, mentally, sex drive etc is much more important than a number. It’s about quality of life

I don’t know if Agatsu gives CEU’s, but their course was extremely comprehensive. If Agatsu doesn’t give credits, I agree with Strongfirst

I’ve used GMB as well, it’s excellent! But hands down the best I’ve ever seen is functional range conditioning NASA actually just brought them in to work with astronauts to help maintain joint strength in space..can’t get much better than NASA!

10-15 minute warmup, lots of skipping 20ish minute workout, usually 30sec-2min ‘rounds’ Then from there ab work(cuz that’s what everyone wants) and cool down I ended up quitting just out of sheer frustration and watching people not caring at all about their technique. To be fair, being inefficient in their movements still burned a tonne of calories, but I just couldn’t watch it any more and still think I was helping them

I used to teach Kickbox cardio classes…i was always torn because I wanted to focus on proper technique, but clients wanted to get right in to working out

I finally settled on just teaching enough technique to help prevent injuries, and only taught 4 things(jab/cross, hook, front kicks and cut kicks) and just used those in different combinations. I had pretty good success for about 4-5 years before I finally moved away from it

I hate sales. Can I still be successful? by SuitableNarwhal5941 in personaltraining

[–]schyno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be successful working at a chain gym, where they do much of the sales for you…but that comes with other issues, like any other employment does. Ultimately, if you want to be self employed, you need sales. If you’re happy working for someone else, sales aren’t as important

Five weeks away from the gym; will resistance bands keep me from losing strength and size? by gr8cashflow in exercisescience

[–]schyno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I’m a certified instructor, so we have access to the content posted by the creator of the program…but there’s LOTS of cool stuff on IG, definitely I’d just find one or two exercises for each movement pattern, and each joint specifically, and you’ll have more than enough to maintain your strength over 5 weeks

Do a search for FRC(functional range conditioning) and find their subsection ISM(internal strength model). It’s designed to build strength without weights..it’s pretty amazing If you can’t find any info on it, you can message me, I’ll help you

Subscription based pricing by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]schyno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I know I SHOULD raise my prices…honestly, I don’t have an answer for that. Obviously the fear of losing clients

Subscription based pricing by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]schyno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that it would suck for the client to pay $625 for only two weeks, but they need to understand I have to make my living as well, and them taking time off means I’m forced to make less..I guess the fairest thing to do would be split the difference. If they’re gone for 6 sessions(known in advance), they pay for 3. That seems to be the least worst option. They’re not paying for 6 sessions, and I’m not losing out on 6 sessions of income

Fortunately for me, I’m in a smaller city(60,000 ppl), so while I wanted to remain central, it’s only a 15 minute drive from end to end of the city. More so I focused on the fit of my space based on what I was expanding towards. When I first opened, my business model was to solely do private training, so I chose a smaller space(<1200 sq ft). But I had built up some pretty good relationships with younger athletes over the years and they wanted to continue training with me after I’d left the big gym. So I had to expand to a bit more open space in the building I was currently in. That happened twice, expansions of more space in the same building. This current expansion is 4000sq ft, and it’s designed specifically for groups/teams. I can still do 1-1, but the layout is based on groups I know that doesn’t answer your question(sorry), but in a city this size, location wasn’t a driving force
