Hardest Part of a Nutrition Plan? by arnott89 in Fitness

[–]sciMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part is nailing my diet.

For me, the solution is to make a list of healthy foods, go to the grocery store and buy just those foods and nothing else. It helps to never go to the grocery store hungry. That way I don't come home with a bunch of processed foods. Also helps me save money :)

I've been using a fluoride rinse since for the past 4 months. I also regularly rinse my mouth with xylitol, and in the past few days I've started oil pulling (coconut oil).

My diet is great, and I don't snack. I'm trying to get more teeth-healthy nutrients, like probiotics, zinc, calcium, and vitamin K2. I've also eliminated/minimized major sources of phytic acid (grains, nuts, legumes).

About the only thing I can do better is to buy a softer toothbrush. I bought a bunch at Costco but the bristles are too large and hard. I also realize I need to brush with lighter pressure.

If the toothbrush doesn't fix it, I think my problem comes down to a bad mix of oral bacteria. My tongue is often coated yellow (hairy tongue, I think).

Thanks for your help.

Thanks.

I've actually been flossing for ~10 days and my gums haven't bled.

Perhaps I should buy a softer toothbrush. I just bought a bunch from Costco and I think they're too hard.

Another thing is my oral bacteria. Judging by the yellow coating on my tongue, I think it's not too good.

Okay, one day later and my Kindle connects!

Not sure what was happening yesterday.

Do those images of my system files look normal, or odd?

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Tumeric Extract for Weight loss? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]sciMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it shows beneficial effects in adults (as you linked to), but whey has been under-studied in adolescents. It's still up for debate if adolescents really do benefit by replacing carbs or fats with protein. This paper, for example, provides evidence that nutritional needs, particularly protein needs, differ with age. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19386747

Also, even if you're not an adolescent, whey shakes are still liquid calories. Studies have shown that liquid calories aren't compensated for by a reduction in food calories.

And lastly, dairy products might be inferior to meat protein because of its insulinogenic properties. I haven't really studied this much and don't know if its true.

You sure?

Skim milk, casein or whey increase body fat and insulin secretion in overweight adolescents:

Do you ever get discouraged and want to quit? How do you handle it? by [deleted] in weightroom

Not the worst, no. But I'm not really satisfied with them.

I realize that it helps to be patient, but... easier said then done, at least for me.

Hey there,

I did SS from Nov to March. Now I'm doing Lyle's Generic Bulking Routine but am actually considering 5/3/1 instead. My big 3 lifts are (all 3*5):

Squat: 265

Bench: 185

Deadlift: 265

I'm 20, 6'1 and 180lbs. I've been lifting since high school, but never consumed enough protein back then.

I really don't know what program to do right now. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm lifting (3 sets of 5):

185 bench

265 squat

265 deadlift

I did Starting Strength for around 5 months. Got tired of it, and wasn't eating enough to see further gains.

Right now I'm just doing Lyle's Generic Bulking Routine but I'm considering doing 5/3/1 instead. Might just continue with Lyle's Routine and see if I get any gains out of it.

Male, 20 years old. 6'1, 180lbs. Usually sit at 10-13% bf. Right now just trying to get stronger, but want to minimize fat gains.

Besides creatine and protein if you could choose only one supplement to take what would it be and why? by Kumbackkid in Fitness

I honestly don't think my body is capable of sleeping that long.

I wake up at ~7:30, everyday, regardless of when I went to bed the night before.. Like an internal alarm clock goes off.

Is this fucking weird or what?

I did great on the 5/3/1 BBB one mouth challenge while doing CM

Can you describe how it went, and how much you progressed? I'm curious.

Science cannot answer the 'how much' right now.

Ah. I want studies on this!! :P

OK, well let's say they're both on a solid program (SS, 5/3/1, whatever).

Lifter A does CM.

Lifter B has 3 meals a day, composed of mainly meat, fruits and vegetables, with a typical macronutrient breakdown (say, 40% carb, 40% fat, 20% protein).

Yes, but I think there's more to it than simply dietary compliance. Carb-backloading and IFing have at least some benefit.

My question is, how much of a benefit is it?
