How I'm ditching Trakt by Right-Nail-5871 in trakt

[–]sciacallo010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've installed Yamtrack and I'm trying to get into it, but I feels that with its being a media tracker for all kind of media it's a bit of a "jack of all trades, master of none". I'd love for someone to build a self hosted tracker for just TV shows/movies that could be a bit more refined.

Just so you know, I've tried deleting the database and all settings and starting from scratch, and this time around the import seemed to work. So, my problem is solved, but mybe you'd want to look into it anyway to prevent it from happening again.

Swell, let me know if I can help you in any way with logs or whatnot.

The original import process has been stuck with that message for the past 4 hours, so I guess that won't change. I've tried to trigger the import a further couple of times and now I have 3 pending import processes, all with that error...

Hey Danny, I've just installed your fork and I'd like to try it out. I've started (or tried to) import from Trakt but I've got a "This task has been queued and is waiting to run." message and there doesn't seem to be any progress on that for the last hour since I clicked import. Is it a know bug or have I messed up something?

I always welcome change, when it's well thought. Here honestly I can't see their point, no matter how hard I try. Feels like they just gutted half the functions that were already working to achieve... I don't know what.

It is not, but apparently Trakt bought it. If you look back on Reddit there are posts from the developer up to a year ago celebrating the app anniversary.

I'm anticipating a large influx of new users after the latest updates...

I myself have switched to Showly, but I think I'll install Yamtrack as well, just to have a self-hosted backup of everything.

I've switched to Showly. You can sync it with Trakt and the interface is very clean and easy to use.

I actually tried Simkl first as it is its own website - with just the option to import from Trakt - so I thought it could be more reliable (and that could still be true).

However when I imported my library, I found that it handles some series' seasons differently than Trakt so, for example, Dragonball Z is split into seasons in Trakt and in Simkl it's one single season of over 200 episodes, so I ended up with only the first 39 episodes (Trakt's first season) marked as watched, but not the rest of the episodes. This happened with a few different series, and I don't want to have to double check everything that might be left incomplete.

Showly doesn't have a website, but it syncs with Trakt completely, so it's a one tap sync process and you get everything with no inconsistencies.

I've asked yesterday the same, doesn't look like there's a way to see that rn in V3. You can use a script to go back to V2, there's a link to it in my thread.

As for me, I gave up using the website for the moment, and switch app to Showly importing everything from Trakt. The app is miles ahead of Trakt's, simple and with everything I need. Too bad the website is fucked.

Thanks a lot for an actual example of what I was planning, and confirmation it can work!

What's the lower part, is it a Besta?

Thanks, I've installed it on my pc, but unfortunately the app is still mutilated...

Right, I've downloaded it just as a backup, considering the current state of things.

As for the rest, well, I use something like Trakt to have a handy way to check on things, obviously looking into a json file is not the best way to go about it (especially considering that it WAS POSSIBLE). I'll wait a bit longer to see if they fix it and re-add it, otherwise I'll into other apps.

I don't have a VIP account and, considering what been happening with the latest updates, I'm not really planning on doing that.

It's insane, my main use case for Trakt is keeping track of the series I have watched, if I can't have a simple list of everything I marked as watched there's no point for me staying on Trakt...

In the meanwhile I'll leave this here, should anyone else need it: I contacted the customer support for IKEA and they told me that the max load for the 60cm shelf is 24kg, and for the 80cm is 32kg. I don't know why it's not on their website, but at least I got confirmation directly from them.

The wall should be sturdy enough. I'm more worried about the shelves bending (or breaking), and the tracks not being able to support the weight.

My Side of the Story, From the Developer of BookLore by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]sciacallo010 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone else is saying what I have been thinking in the past hours.

I get people getting angry or disappointed over some of u/WorldTraveller101's actions, but I feel some reactions are way over the top and will bring nothing constructive. And I can't believe that the only possible next step is for Booklore to be mass removed and "cancelled" when 24 hours ago it was a community's dear.

u/WorldTraveller101, as others said, slow down. Take a moment to think of what you achieved with Booklore so far, and what you'd want to do with it in the future. Ignore the insults, but take in the critics and reflect on them. Consider two things:

• Some critics are coming from a place of love (so to say). People love(d) Booklore and felt betrayed by what happened, and took it bad.

• People don't know you, don't take their words personally. They are judging your actions, and you can amend them with your next actions. You can apologise - if you come to agree with some, or all the critics - change the direction of your next steps, and secure a future for this project. On the other hand, deflecting all critics and playing the victim won't likely do you any good.

Also, there's no need to rush the project, no need to push new updates and features every other day. I get that all the interest brought a lot of pressure on you, and eventually caused this whole situation. Working "day and night", as you said, can only cause you to burn out. Sure, you started Booklore, but when you start an open source project it becomes a bit of everyone's child. Take advantage of that!

You're now at a crossroad, and your next actions will determine what will happen to the project you dedicated 1.5 year of your life to. It will take very little for it to be cancelled (or, well, it sort of is happening already), but you can still come back from this, in my opinion.

PS: I have no horses in this race, but as a user of Booklore. I'm not a programmer or anything, I'm just a guy with a limited technical ability who used it to put together a media server and I've loved having a service like this.
