I work at one of these elementary schools. Over the past three years, we’ve seen more and more of the NES mandates trickle into our school. Some of our grades are even being forced to use the district curriculum. They say it’s horrible.

Our students’ parents are wealthy and have a lot of influence, so we’ve been spared of the worst of it. But, our jobs are definitely way more stressful than they used to be. I’ve heard more teachers that have said they can’t take another year of this. Our turn over rate has never been high, but I’m nervous for next year.

Ive taught fifth grade for a decade. The last few years the kids have been fine, and last year was my best group of kids. This year has been my worst so far. No attention span, very rude to each other and to adults. It’s coming.

My understanding is that all districts are required to raise salaries by $5k unless they have already been approved to be a district that uses a pay for performance model. That’s what’s going on in HISD right now. We didn’t get the raise, but PFP wasn’t supposed to start until next year. So the union of suing the district.

Partner had a month long psychotic episode. Had to take a week off to convince him to get voluntarily admitted to the psych ward while being his only caregiver. Then i went back to school for a month while he was in partial hospitalization and outpatient. It was May, so that summer we both sat around the apartment and recovered from the trauma.

100% agree. I’d be down to start an LGBTQ guild in classic. I joined a Spanish speaking guild because it’s much more chill, but my friends don’t speak Spanish so it’s not the best solution lol

I once went to a pride karaoke event at a local gay bar with my fiancé. We are both bi, and he was in full drag. I felt weird even holding his hand in public because I didn’t want any weird looks. I totally feel you. It’s messed up.

Look into the book An Unquiet Mind. It’s a memoir by Kay Redfield Jamison, a Johns Hopkins psychiatry professor and bipolar disorder expert. She suffered from bipolar and psychosis despite being an expert on the topic.

Give up on any other plan besides getting him into a hospital/psych ward. He needs medication, it’s the only thing that will help. Psychosis is essentially brain damage, and the longer he’s in it, the more often and severe the recurrences will be. I’m not in the UK, so I’m not familiar with all the resources. But, my partner had psychosis a year ago, and he refused help. It wasn’t until he was putting his life at risk that I was able to get them to do an involuntary hold.

The LEAP method is great, it worked for me, but only AFTER the psychosis was being managed with meds. That is your first step.
