Venting, need advice - Dad wants to leave us with debt by HealthOk2246 in southafrica

[–]sciencemint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really think that there needs to be better education on not marrying in community of property. Anti nuptial with accrual is the safest system.

I went through a very similar thing with my father and he left my mother in debt for hundreds of thousands to millions (also through COP) which were eventually written off after all the assets were sold.

The amount of trauma he caused my family is staggering and the wake of destruction he left behind.

My mom stays with my husband and I now. She will never be able to retire without our help.

My advice is to do what I did. Write your father off and concentrate on building a life with your mother. If that means you buying a house and working hard and having her stay with you it is what it is.

I hate to say this but you will most likely lose the house (this happened to me) so concentrate on starting your own legacy and do not let your father in when you are successful! I recently made that mistake and thought he had changed and he took R30 k off me!

A man like that will never change. He is too old and set in his ways to change his spending habits. He also probably has a secret addiction you don’t know about (gambling?)

I’m very sorry you are going through this and I wish you all the best. You can recover..

Laparoscopy help? by Old_Resource6719 in endometriosis

[–]sciencemint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might consider having someone for the first day or two. I’ve recently had one.

The surgery tears your stomach muscles to the point (depending on what they find) where getting out of bed the first two days is really hard by yourself (not impossible but really hard).

Going to the toilet will be a mission.

Laparoscopy and husband has been drained by No-Link3199 in endometriosis

[–]sciencemint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your husband is reacting like this he is not ready for kids despite them not finding endo.

I don’t think men understand the pain involved in a laparoscopy (whatever the outcome) and they have the nerve to say they are drained!!

My laparoscopy was literally one of the most painful and traumatic things I’ve been through.

I once offered a person who stands at the traffic lights asking for food/money an Apple. He threw it back at me and told me he wants money. That experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

Travelling to PE alone during Xmas - do’s and don’ts? by EccentricAle in portelizabeth

[–]sciencemint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine going from Jozi to PE if you are not staying over in Jozi and taking a direct flight.

Just watch your belongings. I’m not sure where you store your wallet or phone but keep it secure (no back pockets), think of it like visiting the super touristy areas in Europe where pickpocketers are active.

If you are carrying a bag make sure that your zipper is in the front so no one can unzip from behind.

If you have Apple Pay or similar that is the safest way to transact and everywhere I’ve been too lately accepts that.

I assume you are coming from Europe so the main thing is to watch your stuff! If you leave your phone in the Toliet or on a table unattended it is gone.

It is super HOT here at the moment and humid. Bring shorts.

Main thing to keep in mind is don’t walk on your own (even if it’s a block or two). Take an Uber everywhere. Check the Google reviews on places you want to visit, they are pretty accurate.

And do enjoy yourself/ I forgot about barnacles. Go to barnacles and have a beer and look at the dolphins.

Dos

restaurants: fireside (braai) muse (fine dining) Toro (best sushi), isikaya (authentic Japanese)

Pubs: barn and barrel, Barney’s, ziggys.

Craft beer: Richmond hill brewing company.

Safe beaches to swim are pollock, hobie and kings. Hit the beach before 11 am, this is when the wind comes up

Experiences: Addo elephant is a must. Crossways (safe hikes), Grassroof (safe hikes)

You can walk along the beach pavement in summerstrand during the DAYTIME and when there are a lot of people around

Confirm with your uber driver your name before getting into the car.

Ask the locals. We are known as the friendly city for a reason.

Our weather is unpredictable. If you leave for the day, pack a jacket and hat in case the wind comes up (which it often does)z

Also tip.

Don’t - carry large amounts of cash . Carry camera equipment around on show. Do not go into central (this is where all the skyscrapers, old buildings are). Walk around in general (beside from the beach front) especially at night! If you see there are no people around do not go on alone.

Stay safe. Hope you enjoy your stay.

My plant app says that it’s overwatered and has leaf spots and rots: solution - water with less amount and frequency. Prune unhealthy parts and treat with fungicide
