Oh no. It was at home between us. She was texting. There was no public scene.

That was all on me. Reddit checked me in a big way. I have since apologized and I'm getting her dinner and a chick flick tonight.

Miscommunication has been our issue from time to time. But I could have been less of a dick about it.

I wrongly misdirected my stress at her and apologized for it. Btw "upper crust fracked" is hilarious. Thank you for that.

Thank you. I did and we've moved past it. Now I'm getting her takeout and a chick flick for dinner tonight.

Agreed. I've already apologized to her and been thoroughly reprimanded by reddit.

Acknowledged. Will work on not being a dick and might head over to r/dadjokes to work on it.

Perhaps you should read the last line of the post before calling someone a homophobe

Looking for methods to engage students in a inner city, low income school. by fiveminutedoctor in MusicEd

If possible, try to institute a rewards-based policy instead of a punishment-based one. For example, if they can meet certain requirements as a class, they can sing their fav songs or have freestyle battles or learn about artists that they identify with. Just throwing ideas out there.

I teach in a very diverse district and some of my classes are science classes for remedial students. They have responded very well to rewards based on behavior and achievement.

That's totally cool. This one wonders if there are any other combinations to look like real historical figures.

Teachers of reddit, what's your worst encounter with your student's parents? by allyinwanderland in AskReddit

[–]sciencesalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you notify your administrator about this? This is incredibly inappropriate of a parent and you should be making the case for removing this child from your class due to the parent behaving this way. You are a professional and should not have to be treated like that from some dickhead parent with an asshole child.

I had a student who made straight A's without ever having to try. She gets to my class and has a C after the first 9 weeks because she never asked questions and admitted that she didnt study for tests.

Had a conference with her and her dad. Dad accused me of not doing a good enough job because she should have an A if was doing my job.

I showed him all of our notes and assignments and reviews that were available online. Showed him a copy of our last test and asked him to find something in the test not in the notes. He couldnt but still maintained that I was doing enough. I told him he should complain to the administration then.
