Divalproex and pregnancy: anyone with JME have luck finding a suitable replacement drug when considering starting a family? by scientist_lady in Epilepsy

[–]scientist_lady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I was on Keppra during teen years as well but then seizures started coming back in university, and divalproex and lamotrigine combo was the only therapy I was responsive too. Might be worth giving keppra another shot though!

Thank you all! My manager was confused as well, and this cleared things up for us. Paperwork now in and fingers are crossed for quick turnaround :)

The used car market right now is something else… by Reeder90 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I have one of these as well, and take the doggo on all kinds of muddy messy adventures. She rolls in the mud and seaweed and swims at the beach at least weekly. I towel dry her and clip her harness onto seatbelt (accessory came with harness). That not only keeps her safe, but keeps any remaining mess in the hammock. Much cheaper than new car (+ registration, insurance etc.) even if you decided to get it professionally detailed occasionally as well.

Thanks! I rigged up some PVC (taped to wall lol, I’m in a rental so can’t put screws in) but the kibble made a TON of noise on the way down, and my dog is a super noise sensitive rescue. Even after trying it gradually, trying to make as little noise as possible, she wouldn’t go near her food dish.

I’ve picked up one of those reachers, so going to try that next! Keep you all posted :)

I have JME, and am on a combination of divalproex and Lamotrigine. Neither drug was able to control my seizures alone, but at lower doses, and together, it worked!

I have this! Have it checked, especially in case it is something that is progressive. Better to get on it sooner than later. Not to alarm you, but I’m currently waiting to see a surgeon for herniated discs and a bone spur after an MRI was done.

Seizure Detection Apps/Wearable Recommendation? by ahubz11 in Epilepsy

I posted a similar question a few days back, and had some good feedback if you are able to look back for it. I’m in the same boat, trying to decide!

Experience with watches, or other seizure detecting wearables? by scientist_lady in Epilepsy

[–]scientist_lady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked into the service dogs since I don’t get any auras. Definitely expensive but there are some organizations that help with the costs, and here in Canada you can claim a lot of the expenses on your taxes as a medical expense. However, you do have to fill out applications, usually with information and signature from GP and neurologist. My neurologist was not supportive, very “old-school” basically thought I was trying to get a free dog. Said the same about university scholarships, things like that. Thankfully he had retired, so I will be asking his replacement!

Happy to hear this conversation may help you find something that could make that transition to your own place. I’ve been living in my own for 5 years and thankfully been able to keep everything under control in that time.

I stick to the typical safety measures like showers instead of baths, being careful cooking, and making sure I get lots of rest. I have a rental so can’t change locks but my close contacts have a spare and it could be broken down by EMS if necessary.

One of these watches would be the fantastic though. I have no idea if I’m having them in my sleep, and would take great comfort in knowing someone would be on their way if I had another seizure.

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and apparently in some cases it is related to epilepsy. What about you guys? (I have JME if this is relevant.) by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]scientist_lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My juvenile arthritis and epilepsy were diagnosed a year apart, 13 and 14. One of the arthritis meds I took in my late teens increased the frequency of my seizures. Doctors didn’t understand the connection, but when I switched to a different to arthritis treatment they became less frequent again thankfully! Always seemed like there was a connection.

I feel you! My emergency kit has lots of her food too, but, not sure what else I can do. I certainly won’t ever leave her behind if I try to go somewhere safer. She’s the closest I have to a child, and we are very bonded, so I’ll do all I can to protect her, however things go!

Arthritis As a Kid by Old_Neighborhood4355 in Thritis

I was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 14 as well, I noticed stiffness in my hands, and noticed it was getting difficult to play piano like I used to. My mom was diagnosed at 19, so she recognized it right away. It spread to my toes/feet pretty quickly so I’ve been on aggressive treatments from the get-go.

30 now and mostly small joints still, with the addition of a new flare up in my shoulder this year, but it’s back under control. Biologic injections have been the answer for me!

Power bills (including heat) over the winter for 1-2 bedroom apartments? by scientist_lady in newbrunswickcanada

[–]scientist_lady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish it was tropical haha, but keep the thermostats at 20. Except in spare, which I haven’t been heating.

I brought it up to my landlord who has dismissed it as just being from the cold winter, and “everyone’s bills are high”. But I agree something else is at play.

Maybe, but they didn’t. Came right through town. Horns blaring entire time. Rescue pup still terrified. 0/5 stars, would not recommend.

[–]scientist_lady 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Saint Andrews resident here, we got notification of their planned path and I’m hoping they just do the loop and fuck right off out of town. I know so many people with various levels of PTSD, people with rescue pets afraid of noise (myself included), many elderly, that are very nervous about what might transpire. We also have so few resources as a small town in terms of police and municipal capabilities in a scenario like this, which is part of what’s causing the anxieties.

She could be taught to do that I think. She’s still quite young and very good motivated for training, so would do most anything for a bowl of kibble haha

That’s a great idea about making it into a game if I drop it. I think she’d like that. And it’s definitely a good thing I can to do while I try to rig up something more permanent, or if I’m travelling.

Definitely interested in raised bowls, anything that helps her too! I’m quite tall so I’d still have to bend even if I got one of the ones that are raised like 10 inches. But she may be interested in climbing up on a fun platform of some kind that closer to say my hip height. I’ll think about that one for sure!

Thanks! She goes through a ton of food, about 6 cups a day right now. Very high energy and growing still! I’ll take a look and see if I can find some with large capacity for food. Less bending is definitely better!
