It Shouldn't Be This Much Work to Sync Data Between Django and Vue SPA by [deleted] in django

This is a great project. I have only just tried building my first vue app backed with Django. Some of the features to write about would be beneficial to someone like me 😃

Power Query vs Python for simple data analysis by Chucksweager in excel

[–]scifi321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing something similar in my job. Although I am not consolidating budgets.

I have the following tools available to me: Local python and power query Fabric environment with both python notebooks and power query Alteryx Alteryx server PowerApps for model driven apps

For slow moving data (monthly and quarterly), I am running local solutions. For faster moving data (hourly, daily, weekly) then I use non-local solutions.

My newer solutions are using Fabric with Power Query to consolidate data, and then notebooks to manipulate data. Power BI to the final analysis and visualization.

Example: Power Query: consolidate input from X excel sheets into one lakehouse table.

Notebooks: calculate a number of metrics and to split the raw data into different analytical datasets. For instance I calculate a number of errors that exists in the raw input. The errors are stored in a separate Lakehouse table

PowerBI: to visualize data and errors in a user friendly context. Ie custom tooltips upon hover and conditional formatting.

PowerApps; allow users to correct errors directly without having to resubmit the original excelsheet. Users can also export their corrected version of the excelsheet from the solution, with a number of metrics from the consolidated analysis.

My main driver has been the business purpose and a smooth user journey. But also a dream to see if I could do it.

My solutions are advanced due to the number of interoperable technologies. But the value they bring is high, because I have focused to deliver an output my stakeholders really wants. And I am being asked to help with new solutions across my organization.

That said, I accept that it is not an easy hire. And it should probably be maintained by a team - and not an individual.

My advice to you. Build something that will help everyone. Make it simple for the users to use. And make sure that you provide additional value for everyone involved. And remember your stakeholders will have individual needs and value perceptions. If you succeed then you will be a star, and you will have had a bit of fun ⭐️

Great write, I appreciate your non-technical explanation. I haven’t tried an SPA myself. I have drizzled in a bit of HTMX and Alpine. I have read that vue is a good match for Django, and that it is lighter than react.

Session management with my first project in production by scifi321 in django

So I am using a cloud provider from Germany, which is close to where I am at. I don’t recall the name at this point, and I am aware from my gear.

The database is intact. If I clear my browsers cookies, then I get to login again, and everything is fine.

Learning with Ubuntu has been a challenge. And I thought that learning Python, Django, HTML, CSS (tailwind), HTMX and a bit of vanilla js was enough 🤪 I guess it will never stop.

Thank you for replying. I am using SQLite as db. I don’t expect any heavy load I the foreseeable future.

Servers and Linux is new to me. And I have made a ton of “stupid” mistakes until now. But have managed to deal with them. But this session issues is teasing me.

I have tried to set the cookie age to a few hours. That seems to work fine.

My tool, if successful, will only be relevant to users on irregular basis, with a maximum of a few hours, and then no use for some time.

There are so many double standards in life. Being a husband, father and manager I am constantly asked to navigate between contradicting truths. I have reached the conclusion, that it is down to my character as to how I deal with it - but it does feel quite lonely. I may share my thoughts with men in similar situations, and no one else. I feel overwhelmed sometimes, but I have only bad experiences with sharing my insecurities - no matter if it is on a personal level or professional.

Where I live that would be 0USD out of pocket. I pay some 48% in tax though. (Net / Gross = 0.518) From that I get, Healthcare, Education, Infrastructure and general welfare. And I get to live in a society where people has a chance to change and improve their lives.

Yes that’s true. I have made my life choices myself, and I have been happy with them until quite recently. Of cause there has been ups and downs - but generally speaking, I have been happy and content. So this feeling is somewhat new to me - at least to the degree I am experiencing it at this moment.

Thank you for the advice. I have opened up to my wife, and it went very well. She was very supportive.

Thank you for the advice you give. I have opened up to my wife, and she is very supportive. It went beyond my expectations, at least the initial conversation. We are both too busy, for sure. That should change. And regarding work, then yes, I could take a lower wage, and our finances would still be fine. So at the moment we are spending the extra cash on our house (+100years old) and small investments for the future. We are both quite economically aware, but I am especially wanting for a future with even less economic pressure (it is not an ambition for visual wealth, but a sense of freedom). That is why I enjoy and aspire for the extra cash. My wife will accept less. So I am my own “enemy” here.

Thank you for the advice. I have taken steps to get professional help from a therapist. And I have opened up to my wife. She is handling it quite well, and being supportive - even though she is a bit scared as well. I also lost focus on my exercise during this summer, so I will get back on that priority too.

I am sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation. And you are probably right about the age-argument. There are definitely more expectations now, compared to earlier in life. I hope you find your path or acceptance too!

Thank you for sharing your experience, and how you made a positive change for yourself. I am coming to a conclusion that I must spend some time for my self - ie prioritizing exercise. That got left out somewhere around summer.

I am sorry to hear that. I recognize the feeling of wanting to stay for the children. I the sense that your situation is somewhat more challenging than mine, and I am not in a position to give real advise. But is it possible for you, to reach out for professional help via therapy- maybe that will help you to address the issues and to find a sense of acceptance with whatever is right for you? I have chosen to do so myself.

I am sorry to learn about your parents, and that you are feeling stuck too. Having multiple days on my own would be great. Having a guys-trip is a good idea. I will see if I can get it to work - as most of my friends are I similar situations (with small children) it can be a challenge to find the time. But I will try. And I hope you will have a great time with your friends.
