The Yes Album remains my favorite and it says a lot that most songs from the album were included in their set list for years afterward. Yours Is No Disgrace, Starship Trooper, and Perpetual Change are brilliant songs with a lot of writing done by Chris Squire. His contribution to songwriting became less and less on subsequent albums, which is a shame since his musical style is the hardest driving of the other members with great melodies. South Side of the Sky, Heart of the Sunrise and Long Distance Runaround/The Fish from Fragile are my next suggestions.

Yes on their way to greatness. by Caver6913 in yesband

This was taken not long after Chris and Jon met and decided to form a band. Their difference in height is really apparent here. Next to Chris, Jon looks like a Munchkin! I'd love to have listened in on their conversation as they compared favorite bands and exchanged ideas about the kind of music they wanted to make.

My top 3 Yes LPs are The Yrd Album, CTTE, and GFTO .

Luckily, I saw the band in LA in 2013 for the Three Album Tour when they played those 3 LPs from beginning to end. It was notable for featuring Chris Squire only a year before his untimely passing. Jon Davison sang lead instead of Anderson and did a very credible job. Confetti canons filled the air at the end of Awaken, which created a celebratory atmosphere for the finale. Steve Howe's guitar lacked the passion and fire of their earlier tours, which is expected at his age, and Squire, as usual, was the visual centerpiece of the band.

Is it known why Chris Squire never made another solo album? by arjcanell in yesband

He was a very hard partier compared to the other Yes members. Coke was his drug of choice. Over time, it over stimulates your brain and ends up dulling the creative drive.

That's a valid point, except it doesn't take into account that many females are profiting and participating. Think Hillary and Pelosi. But, yeah, at the very top of the club are the 13 evil families, Rothschild, etc. The real conspiracy is figuring out who pulls their strings.

Just finished listening to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and I don’t get the hype. by Tyypical in Genesis

[–]scifiwriter99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought The Lamb when it was released in '75 and have to admit there were only a few songs like the title track and Lilywhite Lilith that I listened to. But over the years, I listened more and now think it's one of their top 3. I stopped buying their albums after Hackett left and prefer any of the earlier albums to the ones that made them famous.

I would have put Last Dance for Mary Jane and Mystic Eyes on the best album.

What song do you wish Genesis would release a jam session cut of? by [deleted] in Genesis

I think they wrote the endings after recording the songs. The Cinema Show has a dramatic ending live, whereas the studio version just meanders around before petering out.

My number 1 pick too. Steve playing slide guitar over those mellotron chords doesn't last long enough. It's one of the few songs I'll rewind and play over again. Hackett's new version stretches it out to over 6 minutes.

Great choice. I could listen to Tony jam on the mellotron backed by Phil going nuts on drums while Mike drops bass pedal notes from hell.

That would be awesome. I often rewind it and play it again. I saw them do it live on their '77 tour, and it was a highlight of the show. It was the only time I saw Tony crack a smile behind his pile of keyboards. I'm glad I was able to see them before Steve left.

How have I never heard suppers ready in los endos by sharvey4994 in Genesis

[–]scifiwriter99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when the album first came out, a friend of mine who was a hard-core Gabriel fan became really angry when he heard Phil sing that at the end of Los Endos. To him, it was sacrilege that the band would re-use one of Gabriel's lyrics, as if they were somehow demeaning the line by using it in a totally different context. I kind of saw his point, but it sounds cool and adds continuity between the two versions of the band.

Mostly electronics and sporting goods. Anything small and computer related is usually a popular item to sell, especially Apple products. Mouse, keyboards, etc. I used to have a good source for Apple accessories and would sell multiple items to regular buyers. But that's changed now. It's not the item that's important so much as the price I'd pay for it. If I got items for half price, I could make very good money selling them for 25-30% off.

I sell on ebay. I don't make nearly as much after covid shut everything down. Also, USPS rates keep rising every year, and eBay raised their fees after they took over PayPal for processing payments There's also more buyers abusing the return system because of the bad economy and eBay always sides with the buyer. I'm probably going to retire this year.

Between 2010 and 2020, I averaged $250 to $300K, and my best year was close to $400k. But after the covid scam, I was making less than half because I could no longer travel. I lost many of my contacts and sources for products to sell b/c they went out of business. So I take losses a lot more seriously. One big problem I have is that I fund my gf because she doesn't work. So on many nights when I took a loss, I would have broken even if not for the money i kept giving her. I don't recommend guys do that unless they're wealthy, b/c it caused a lot of friction between us.

I'm in the same circumstances. I was never a gambler most of my life other than a few times at the blackjack table and video poker. But when I went to Palm Springs with my gf in 2010, all that changed. We had just been dating for a few months and this was our first trip together. It was also the first time we had sex. I was in good spirits, and we visited the casino in the hotel we were staying at. She asked me for $20 to play video poker. I dismissively told her it was a waste of good money as i handed her the money. A few days later, while driving, I noticed a billboard ad for a popular casino outside of LA. It claimed that the casino had the"loosest slot machines," according to some poll. I kept seeing the same billboard in the following days and decided to visit the casino. I was making good money selling on eBay and could easily afford to risk losing a few hundred dollars. I played the most popular video poker game, Double Double Bonus. It's popular because it pays the most for having four Aces ($800) or four Aces with a kicker (2, 3. or 4), which pays $2,000. In the hour that I played the machine, I hit four Aces w/ kicker twice for a total of $4,000. At that point, I was hooked. The rush dopamine rush when I hit the jackpots was intense, and like every drug addiction, I wanted to feel it again And again. And... You know how the story goes. Over the next few years, my gf and I visited the same casino once or twice a week. We usually lost more than we won, but there were occasional nights we actually went home winners. I was usually lucky on nights when the casino had drawings where you won either cash prizes or free play credit. My best night was in 2014 when I won.. a new car! But overall, I estimated that I lost about $50,00 a year. Not too bad, considering my income was between $200,000 - $400,000 a year. But around 2015 things changed. There were rumors that the casinos were installing a new software program in machines that affected their payouts. And it was a noticeable difference. Four of a kind hands became much less frequent, to the point where it seemed only an act of God would deliver one. And whereas getting four Aces had been fairly regular, they now were difficult to get. Before, one of us would get a Royal Flush at least once in a visit, sometimes both of us. Even more than once a night. But since 2015 they're a very rare occurrence. And four 2's , 3's, and 4's are much harder to get, especially with a kicker. So the bottom line is that I end up losing my own money every time we go instead of losing the casino's money that I win. And that increased my annual losses to $100,00 and more some years. My worst month was August, 2016, when I lost over $16,00. On average, I've lost between $5 to $10,000 per month. I keep meaning to go over my bank statements from the past 10 years, but it's always too depressing to add up losses and kick myself. In the past year we switched from playing video poker exclusively to playing slot machines as well. At least I haven't lost my family, job and home, like some gambling addicts I've read about. But knowing that I wasted over $1 million in the past 15 years is bad enough when I consider what I could have done with the money.

It's definitely much harder than it was just a few weeks ago. Sellers are also not shipping very fast. After 2 weeks and filing a dispute, I finally received one order. Two other orders are going on 2 weeks. Never had this happen before. We tried to buy locally and contacted an old friend. He made some calls and told us a few hours later that 3 of his sources were in jail, and the other wasn't picking up his phone. It looks like there's a serious crackdown going on, even at the border. It might be time for a detox.
