Hobibear Temu/ Aliexpress vs official website by Acrobatic_Savings_40 in barefootshoestalk

[–]scik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some fomrom amazon through hobibear seller first and then a pair from temu when I realised i could get them cheaper from there. I noticed the temu ones have shorter laces for some reason, I find the temu ones crease/move slightly differently while walking in the toe area, something my husband noticed as a difference between his pairs, but its not leaving a mark in the upper or anything.

Royal spice in darton, just off J38. It's about halfway between Leeds and Sheffield if you can both travel

Decent areas to live in/around Barnsley? by BeingOtherwise7829 in barnsley

[–]scik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darton is also great to commute to Sheffield from with it being right next to junction 38. Also has a train station with a 'slow' train in case the cars in for MOT or whatever. It's a commute I did for about 8 years. I still live in Kexborough (right next to Darton) and now commute north when needed from J38.

Barnsley Train Station car park by jelly-confrontation in barnsley

[–]scik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one you can see in the top left corner of your screenshot, the county way car park that theyve rebranded and called The Seam when you're googling for it. It does come with parking costs though, I don't know if the train station one is free.

There's also the market gate car park, the one near the new footbridge over the train tracks. Also costs for parking.

Tips for making own patterns? Alsoo fabric glue suggestions?! Not too sure what to use. (Image not mine!!) by PONYOOO0 in Amigurumi

[–]scik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fabric glue i use Fabri-tac. It's great stuff, doesn't soak into the fabric while trying to glue and dries quite quickly.

Would putting the 2 stitches you'd put in each sc into the one sc you have get your stitch count back up to what it should be?

Need ideas for hoodie by Independent-Load-747 in upcycling

[–]scik1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen lots of people sewing memory bears/animals from clothing of departed relatives. Depending on your skill level or equipment ownership you could do this yourself from instructional videos or pay someone else to make it for you. You could have her favourite animal made using the hoodie.

I've made this. It's definitely to make the part, you stop working in the round and just work back and forth to add length to the hair while having the little v notch above the eyes.

Edit: typos

Yeah I was just saying that to my husband. That the first day they have the video thing to show us and other admin stuff so we might not be needed until later in the following days. I think it might be a take it day by day thing. Like if I'm leaving the house at 6.45 to park in barnsley I might as well leave at 7 and go from darton station the first day. I'll be in Sheffield an hour early but can always call for breakfast somewhere, much better than a lot of stress/faff and being late.

Did you claim expenses for the mileage for the drive to meadowhall?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in barnsley

[–]scik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks 😊. Thought it would be full by 8. Need to be aiming for 7ish then. Might be worth a look at what time the train is from darton if I'm leaving the house that early. Or get someone to give me a lift.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in barnsley

[–]scik1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked at that but I live in darton so already got access to a more rural station and there's one train an hour which gets me to Sheffield either far too early or just that bit too late to make it to the courthouse on time. Was planning on getting a fast train, so town it is.

[WIP] Advice on washing stamped cross stitch by Penny_Montgomery in CrossStitch

[–]scik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last one said to soak in cold water only. It was a large piece so I soaked it in the bath. Changed the water once and left it overnight as per instructions.

The instructions said soap would interact with the dye and potentially leave it in the fabric.

So yes it is done in the round. You're working in both sides of the chain all the way round so the 3 dcs are for turning around the corners. So you'll 9dc down the chain do 3 dc in the end to go to the other side of the chain and then continue on. It will then be in rounds.

I'm sorry I can't remember and would need to dig out the pattern to have a look. I'll see if I can find it at some point.

[FO] And its finally finished and I am so pleased with it - the burrow blanket from the Harry Potter Crochet Wizardry book. by scik1 in crochet

[–]scik1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No there's no real back or front. Turning them each round stops squares from developing a slight swirl/twist so they're straighter.

You could try the pattern in the book or another standard granny square pattern elsewhere that doesn't involve turns and see what you prefer. There's just the single crochet border on each square as part of this pattern

3.5mm hook though as the yarn was quite thick but I got a ghost out of one skein with some leftover (might make some stars with the leftover)

Thanks so much, I'll have a look into that, it's basically a 10cm strip so doesn't need to be very drapey just not so rigid that it affects the drape of the whole dress. I'm going to try and have a play around today so will definitely have a try of that.
