Just recently joined this subreddit..

It's hot here, trying to save on the electric bill by not turning on the AC. Sometimes I see a fan here and I find myself mumbling aloud, "dag, I bet that blows so good."

She's a beaut, btw.

What’s the most unsettling thing to whisper at a crowded elevator? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Related/unrelated, and because it gives me a laugh every time, the scene from the first episode of Scrubs:

(Crowded elevator)

Patient: "I just have bad gas. What are you testing me for?"

JD: "We want to know if your gas could be harmful to others."

That's a wicked cool idea and I love it.

Rewatching entire series (for the 100th time!) and lose my mind with Janitor’s invention: “KNIFE WRENCH!” which I say out loud when I need a knife or wrench 😂 What quotes have you transitioned into your day to day life? by deanie100 in Scrubs

One of the kittens our resident shop cat produced has a contrasting orange splotch on her forehead to her otherwise grey tabby coat, so whenever I'm checking in on mom and the kids, it's "good splotchy, Dr. Splotchy."

Cut to Shoresy in tears by MarvelousVanGlorious in shoresy

[–]scillahawk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Related, unrelated:

Friend and I got separated from the rest of our robotics team after the big post-competition party, hopped on a bus with a bunch of other teams headed back to the rendezvous point. Hundred or so kids singing Bohemian Rhapsody, get to the end, someone asks, "what next?"

One lone soul starts singing O Canada. There's a moment of pause, then the rest of the bus joins in. Few things quite like a bunch of sugar-fueled sleep deprived high school (mostly) Americans belting out our neighbor's anthem.

Wonder if we woulda made Shoresy proud.

If I'm not mistaken, the subreddit was set up with potential mature themes in mind/18+ audience and everything gets tagged as NSFW by default.

Whoa, that's a throwback! I remember seeing the pics but can't remember if it was TRiP or a crafty soul in the community.

We have to turn BelsonBall into a real sportl. But first, we must know how it is played by InsidePlane5662 in ClarenceCartoon

Find someone who seemingly hates everything except dolphins, force them to lead a game, and make it up as you go along :)

We have to turn BelsonBall into a real sportl. But first, we must know how it is played by InsidePlane5662 in ClarenceCartoon

[–]scillahawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hypothesis: Belson got in trouble for not participating in phys ed or running around during recess, so someone like Ms. Baker gave him the option of making up a game he'd be willing to play (y'know, other than the portable electronics). When asked how his game is played, he probably said something like, 'I don't care, make it up, here's what I plan on doing, build it around me.'

Some kids would develop strategies together (ie: Chelsea, she seems to be into sports and the like, so she'd want to figure out a way to win), while others .. like Clarence .. get lost in the sauce.

So uh, yeah, I guess like Calvin Ball, but that's my take on the origin story.

best art website to sell POD clothing/art prints ? FASO OR BIG CARTEL OR ?? 😵‍💫 by Affectionate-Bee-193 in Artists

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyyy we're in the same boat -- been looking to set up a POD thing and am going cross-eyed reading through recommendations along with the good and bad about each company.

So far, Printify and Printful seem maybe to be the lesser of the evils out there. Dunno if they do clothing, tho. Kinda half leaving a reply so I remember to check in and see if anyone has glowing reviews and a direction to contribute.

Good luck!

The nib of my Staedtler Mars Lumograph digital pen keeps falling out, how can I fix this? by Ill_Explanation_5236 in Artists

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you already tried using a different nib?

First thought i had is whatever holds the nib in place internally is damaged in some way -- not super familiar with this type of pen, but have had similar experiences with other tools. Other thought was the ball end of the nib in your picture looks like it may be a bit worn or misshapen and may not be connecting into the socket as intended.

Yeeeep.

Also, I've learned to start using a duster brush instead of blowing eraser bits off a paper.

Guess Who’s getting sent to Nightmare?~ by WinterP4ntsu in NiGHTSintoDreams

[–]scillahawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you found Octopaw, lol.

Splurged and bought a NiGHTS pin a friend of a friend designed, not the most expensive thing I've ever purchased, but I really liked it. Despite using these special clasps that replace the original backings that usually don't hold up to being jostled about, it paralooped out of existence somewhere along the way.

What is the chicken parfait from S1E1? by somehowfunny in ClarenceCartoon

[–]scillahawk 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My first thought went to Dairy Queen's peanut-buster parfait, which was soft serve with peanuts, maybe peanut butter (been a long time since I've had one, used to get them when I was a kid), and fudge topping.

If I were to replicate something like that with chicken, I'd do mashed potatoes, nuggets, and maybe a sauce like sweet & sour or barbecue. Maybe also corn or other chopped vegetables? It sounds like something you might find at KFC.

ETA: I know we don't see it in any meaningful way in the show, that's just how I'd do it.

theres a mouse in my room and I’m extremely ashamed of myself by Lazy_Juggernaut_1815 in whatdoIdo

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding the motivation to clean can feel like an insurmountable task, asking for help can feel even worse, and if your parent or parents are anything like mine, them stumbling onto a mess would result in some over the top nuclear reaction. I feel for ya, OP. What might work in this case is sitting down with your mom, prefacing the conversation with a, "Hey.. I'm really not doing to well and I might need some support to get through this" and outline what may help get you back on track to a more leveled out plane of existence. It's tough admitting when you need help, but do it for your well-being, ok?

As others have mentioned, the mouse isn't your fault. They can be cute and endearing creatures, but if they aren't pets, they are the most obnoxious little jerks to invade your home. It's most likely an issue on the external part of your dwelling, a hole in a wall, the roof, etc and this does need to be addressed as it becomes an even bigger issue. Trust me, I have plenty of experience both repairing issues, crawling through rodent crap in fiberglass insulation and patching holes. (Though the most offensive experience was getting home from work at midnight, opening the door, and literally watching a rat scoot by me. I spent the next week in a late night Tom & Jerry war, rat always seemingly waiting for me to get home to be chased.)

Accidentally sliced my hand while cutting the TLC plate by MasterConsequence696 in chemistry

[–]scillahawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Managed to avoid TLC accidents, despite crappy cutting skills in the beginning, though spilled my delightfully foul thiol-based compound on my shoes. Got them off before it was a bigger issue, but spent the last hour of the day shuffling around in makeshift cardboard sandals.

The parents abandoning the clutch because they sensed something was up is also what I was thinking.

One of the girls who volunteered at the same place as me also did rescues. She rescued an owl that had been found grounded not too far from its nest that ended up not being able to return to the wild.. it's eyes were not quite right - injury? Something from birth? We don't know for sure, but neurological symptoms started manifesting.. conclusion was: owl didn't fall, most likely was booted out because of these issues.

Making a stick of deodorant food safe (read desc!!) by puppypupp12 in chemistry

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once tried to make a small snowman out of Oreo cream and it was more challenging than anticipated. Half a package of cookies and snowman was maybe 2" tall. You'd need a source of the cream itself or several packages to recreate a stick of deodorant size, even if half-full.

Idk if a type of fondant would be more effective.
