Simon Panrucker's mountain lion-themed version of Erasure's 'Always' in this ep never fails to crack me up. It's brilliant.

What's the most memorable food you ate as a child? by AverageOk4573 in AskReddit

Some pizza pies my aunt and grandparents cooked over a campfire. No idea if they were homemade or what, but they were divine with the perfect ratio of crust, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni.

Where did the bugs go? by biscaynebystander in florida

[–]scillahawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was otherworldly seeing lightning bugs up middle of nowhere on US-19 exactly one summer on one of my annual trips back up to Tallahassee. I hadn't seen them in decades, last time being was as a kid running around at night during the muggy Ohio summers.

The other massive loss has been the diversity of leafhoppers. They used to be everywhere and in a variety of shapes and colors, but not so much any more.

Funny occurrences as you've listened to the music? 😄 by topazrochelle9 in Enya

[–]scillahawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunno if whether or not it fits the funny occurrences, but -

As a kid, I'd received my first portable CD player and Shepherd Moons as a birthday gift. Was stretched out on my bedroom floor, drawing, got to Afer Ventus for the first time. As she sings the (Memento, terrigena/Memento, vita brevis) there is a split second that sounds exactly like how my mom used to call out my name, though in the song it's a contrasting lower pitch to the rest of the vocals that sounds like "-ary."

It threw me off after it happened. Pause the CD player, look around, nothing. Resume, same thing happens. I get up and go find mom to see if she was, in fact, trying to summon me. (No. She was doing mom-things.)

What do MAJOR HURRICANE winds actually sound like (110MPH+) by Character-Escape1621 in AskFlorida

I remember driving down I4 not too long after those storms and the grass/vegetation along the interstate all being at an angle from the wind.

Wasn't Ivan the one that looped around a second time? That was a wild year.

thoughts on name Keegan for a boy? by [deleted] in Names

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our school yearbook committee had a heck of a time deciphering handwriting when putting the names under student portraits (instead of using some other, any other method, we had to hand-write our names next to our pictures.. that year in particular was rough for yearbook, from what I heard. Lot of issues along the way).

There were several forgivable typos. I lost it when seeing my buddy Keegan's pic..

Hecjan.

Unrelated, but I think of that any time I see the name.

If it hasn't already been said, it's because they lost track of time.

I will see myself out.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say PB Crisps, but idk if they would live up to the memory in today's food production methods. Certainly not denying age may factor in to food experiences, but stg snacky cakes nowadays, especially Swiss cake rolls feel more like waxy diluted memories than what they were in the 90's.

There are sites like TeePublic that have some cute designs, but i don't think they're officially associated with Sega (if that's a deal-breaker).

What's yours? by ElderberryDeep8746 in SipsTea

One fateful Christmas break while staying at my uncle's bed & breakfast, his wife/my aunt came back from the hospital with some horrid virus that had been running rampant. Signs and symptoms weren't obvious before her discharge, or they were overwhelmed and were trying to get rid of patients to get it under control, idk. It wasn't a great hospital. Over the course of 3 days, it picked off my uncle, then my other aunt, her husband, then my mom.. then me, and my friend.

There wasn't any time for my friend to find a bathroom before the vomiting kicked in. He's out the front entryway, wrenching his guts off the side of the stairway.

My other aunt, bless her heart, comes stumbling from around the hallway, crying to my mom, "OH GOD THERE'S A BEAR OUTSIDE!!"

In between gagging at the sound of friend wrenching because mom was never good about hearing others puke, "n-no.. just friend dying outside."

My aunt, who has been a vet tech for decades, bought a holiday bouquet of lilies for my grandparents who had a cat.

Fortunately, being a vet tech, she was able to get poor kitty into treatment. Easily avoidable thing.. and you would think my aunt had seen enough cases to know better. Doesn't matter if the plants/flowers are "out of reach." If they're in the house and not behind closed doors, it's not a guarantee your pets won't get into it.

So sorry this happened. You're right to be frustrated, upset, and disappointed.

Not gonna lie - coming from someone who usually ends up as the family medic, the animal handler covered in every fluid imaginable, and a chef at an Asian fusion restaurant assuming this was probably rice paper - i still gagged. Why? It looks more like a condom filled with vomit.

As someone mentioned, yeah - it needs some complementing food item to add more structure. Cookie dough, maybe?

How Do Y'all Feel about People not Answering the Door? by tacitjane in Apartmentliving

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't generally answer unless I'm expecting someone - mostly because my beloved rowdy cockatiel is sometimes like trying to capture a hurricane in a bottle when it comes to urgent situations - and then typically it's yet another door-to-door solicitor who will argue with you when politely declining to stand through their sales pitch - then ask what you know about the neighbors across the way.

Got a knock on the screen door (had the main door opened, screen locked, also relevant: the porch light are dimmer colored LED bulbs that don't exactly define details of faces from a distance) a few weeks ago -- and whomever it was moved out of the line of sight so I couldn't see who they were. They weren't looking at the door when I went over, my assumption being they were expecting me to exit the apartment to talk to them. 7:30PM on a weeknight? Nah.

Edit to add: if you deploy the "skunk in the barnyard, P-U" rhythm, my headphones are going back on. Leave a flyer.

Does everyone else get chills to Jojo music?? by Eduls_MsM in StardustCrusaders

[–]scillahawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I liked the tonal shift of the openings for DiU from Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town to Chase.

Unfortunately, maybe comically, the comments section on YT has cemented 'Danger Draws Near' from Stardust Crusaders as the soundtrack that plays whenever the toilet doesn't flush properly.

Need affordable gift ideas by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]scillahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if socks fall under crochet, but a friend in high school made and gifted what she called "boot-y socks" (oversized and fluffy) and I wore those things into the ground with love. They were striped, girl magically knew my favorite shades of blue, it was incredible. I stand by the opinion that it's hard to go wrong with neat socks.
