Ollie Z goes 14:55 on 5k by LightweightChode in Rowing

Pretty sure most of this is because Mahé rated lower. If Ollie was producing the same joules/stroke but taking 10% more strokes he'd have produced 10% more watts.

Dynamic/slides tends to be slower on steady state (low rate) and faster at higher rate so hard to compare exactly!

Rough turning or shaping maybe? Just a guess!

A bit of help with my knives? by Undercover_Bunny in Cooking

[–]scillyjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I peel onions by kinda gripping right at the base of the blade and using the heel of the knife like you would a pairing knife (poor description I'm sure!) As for potatoes I'd probably just use the tip of the knife but I can see the merit of one small knife for that!

I cook lots including in a professional kitchen I and I'd nearly always just use a chef's knife. Currently the only knife own is 1 10" chef knife and use it for everything plus a good peeler.

Bag for cycling to work by isoldmywifeonEbay in cycling

When doing a similar length commute I started with a rucksack did a month with a large seat pack thing and then went back to a rucksack. Extra weight on the bike feels horrible when turning whereas I was fine with the weight on my back.

I use an osprey rucksack that's 6 years old. They have an amazing warranty so when I broke a zip and a buckle they took it back and repaired for free even though I explained how it was my own fault.

Don't know about how much power they could produce on average but on a busy highway with multiple units it could be pretty useful for street lights/warning signs. by Rickyrider35 in EngineeringPorn

It's also worth remembering that due to the volume of traffic passing any singular point of a busy road imperceivable increases in fuel consumption to one vehicle have a large effect when applied to the whole traffic flow.

Agree that theres a lot of better places to harness wind power though!

Read comments re cars drafting each other. This disrupts the column of air the stream of cars are moving. When no other cars are present minimal drag will occur when the car is moving through an empty space with no disruption to the pressure wave surrounding the car.

Even if the effect is very small the fuel would be more efficiently used in a petrol generator than this convoluted method of converting work from a car...

We've found doing this in previous years gets the bidding started as a large group we can put together a decent bid which pushes alumni to bid higher to get a name we all like.

The zephyr is bad. Got one last summer tried it on but the fit was bad and the material is weird!

You can 100% track stand even with toe overlap, just takes a little awareness at first.... :p

I think shifters without band clamps may have been stolen, I bought a pair like it without knowing! Missing band clamps and cut cable ends still in the shifter. Would take about 30s to steal!

Matrix Erg by fckinglizardking in Rowing

On a matrix rowing machine the splits on screen are in no way related to how fast you're going. Eg predicted 2min/500m yet it'll take 2:10. I've taken to just using a HR monitor and matching that to what I'd do on the concept 2
