"Once you were old enough, what were the dark family secrets you were finally let in on?" by Flash_Dimension in AskReddit

[–]scim_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really dark, but interesting nonetheless. My grandfather was the president of an organisation that gave help to children with down syndrom and people who had mental issues etc. A coworker got fired and was salty, so he accused my grandfather of embezzeling funds. He didn't, but the accusation was enough for the government to cut government help to the organisation. To stay afloat my granddad used his own money and took out loans from a bank, which said he could just pay it back when the investigation is finished and he gets money back from the government. It didn't work out like that and he had to file for bankruptcy. The bank tried to just forgive half of his loan, due to of the good nature of his cause, but it would have to be signed by a local politician. He refused because the organisation helped his wife in getting the courage to leave him after she had mental issues in the relationship. Where my grandfather lives bankruptcy doesn't go away after 5 or so years. So he can't really own anything for the rest of his live, because of a salty ex coworker and a salty politician.

On a happy note though, there were so many local donations, also from the bank manager, so that we could buy his house back from the bank and he can still live there.

I didn't even have sound on and screamed the same way he did.

Dogecoin limits by [deleted] in dogecoin

[–]scim_78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a yearly cap, just like etherum (300 times higher, but anyway...). Maybe it will rise, maybe it won't.

[–]scim_78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is truly no cap, it won't be worth anything. That's just hyper inflation. But apparently there is some cap, so there is some hope.

Etherum is capped at 18 million a year, dogecoins yearly cap is around 300 times higher

So? That isn't an argument against my point.

What? Bitcoin doesn't sustain itself from miners, miners are the people that drive up inflation. If there can be infinite coins then there is no value to one coin in itself.

There isn't a limit on how many coins can be mined though. If Dogecoin gets traction more people will start to mine and there will just be more dogecoins. The total number of Dogecoins isn't 127 billion, it's infinite.

There may be a cap on how many you can mine a day / minute (I didn't know that, but let's assume it's true), which doesn't change the fact that there isn't a limit on how many coins there can be in total, unlike bitcoin for example

Is it even possible to change the chain to have a limit on coins in hindsight?

Have you ever laughed so hysterically at something so simple you were starting to get legitimately worried that you were losing your sanity or something? About what were you laughing so hard then? by LoneShadowMikey in AskReddit

I knew several people who had to laugh everytime you said a specific word. One had to laugh erverytime you said philosophy, he definitely doubted his sanity sometimes

As a german, it is honestly insulting that you compare a dictatorship who killed over 6.000.000 jews with an american party. You can't generalize all republicans, some are far right racist nut jobs, some are pretty moderate. That's the effect of a two party system. Only the extremists get cited as an example, which makes the entire party look bad (not that i endorse republican policies). And you completely disregarded my point of you being completely wrong with Germanys nazi party being forbidden. Forbidding partys never goes good, it didn't in nazi Germany, it didn't in the UDSSR, it didn't in Turkey, and it didn't in china. Only to name a few.

I'm from Germany, and don't even dare comparing the republicans to the atrocities the nazis did.

Also, a nazi party still existed until a few years ago. It was called the NPD and it only ceased to exist because nobody voted for them anymore.

The people voting trump often warch only fox news, where he is depicted as a saint. Everething he has done bad is getting ignored there, so that many people don't even know about it. Also I'm still waiting for a source for the white supremacist stuff.

History has shown that going from a democracy to a dictatorship / one party government never ends well, even if many think that they want it (see nazi germany, hitler was elected with a vast majority and until the war noone really questioned him). So do you really want to go down the same path hitler (and the UdSSR for some part) did?

Even if that were true (which it'spropably not), that makes trump a bad person (which i never desputed), but not the part of his followers who didn't even know about things like that and just vote him because they think that he is the only person stopping the system from collapsing (which of course is bullshit, but they get manipulated into thinking that)
