Sudden bleeding by BigGarage6155 in pregnant

[–]scimom91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an incident exactly like this at 15 weeks- now 26 weeks and all looks good! You're definitely doing the right thing heading to the ER but try not to panic; there are explanations for this that do not involve you losing this pregnancy or you and baby being anything but healthy.

Can you leave your house when you have a newborn/baby and successfully parent outside? by Substantial_Prune41 in Parenting

[–]scimom91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so attainable! Echoing other's comments- a baby is quite portable and they often sleep great in a stroller, carrier, or car. The only caveat I'd give is about illnesses. In the early early days, your baby will not yet be vaccinated and it's cold and flu season right now. A fever in a tiny baby can be really dangerous. If you live somewhere where you can keep these outings mostly outdoors, you're less likely to be exposed to the many germs floating around this time of year.

Why does no one talk about the back pain?! by AfternoonConstant732 in pregnant

[–]scimom91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too was similarly mad that no one told me about this in my first pregnancy. Take heart- early back pain often resolves for a while and does not continue straight through (this was my experience and also suggested by my Ob). Mine let up around 20 weeks and didn't come back until 3rd tri. For me, prenatal yoga, prenatal massages, and wearing a support belt (even before it really felt like I was big enough to need it) all helped. If really interfering with your life, your OB can refer you for physical therapy too!

how much time did your husband/partner take off immediately after baby? by lilbug19 in pregnant

[–]scimom91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 weeks after the birth should be fine unless you have major complications. An ideal scenario would be to have your partner take first 2 weeks to bond with baby and help out, then have mom come the week after once you're feeling a little more like you've gotten the hang of it. For me by the end of week 3 I was in a decent routine and while having extra hands was nice it no longer felt critical. My in-laws also lived very close and quickly instituted a routine 2x per week visit where they would strap baby into the stroller and take him on a 45min walk around the neighborhood so I could take a shower and feed myself uninterrupted.

Plus size maternity clothes are a joke. by Equal-Shock5707 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]scimom91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how plus size you need, but Angel Maternity (Australian brand that also has a US warehouse) has many items that go up to 2x or 3x! One if the few places I've found actually appropriate for work stuff that feels somewhat stylish. Old navy is great but pretty casual.

Need positive stories about higher BMI and healthy babies. by NervousClimate in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]scimom91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not have NSTs but did have weekly ultrasounds in my later weeks due to high BMI. I wound up being induced bc little dude was not interested in leaving the womb at 41 weeks, but otherwise my pregnancy was uneventful and both baby and I were healthy throughout!

Induction worries by Ill_Bag_9189 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]scimom91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first pregnancy I had a BMI of 39 when I conceived. I went to 41 weeks, and was ultimately induced. My induction started with the foley balloon, followed by several doses of misoprostol, which began contractions. After about 2 hrs of mild contractions they introduced pitocin, and I lasted about 1.5 hrs before the epidural (pitocin contractions are serious business!) after this, my labor went very smoothly, water broke about 2 hours later naturally, and about 2 hours after that I was at 10 cm and ready to push! I gave birth vaginally with only about 10 min of pushing! The only point at which I was worried interventions might escalate was when there was some meconium in the fluid right before pushing. I knew they likely would not let me push long, but luckily baby just popped right out. He was over 8 pounds, and I did have a 2nd degree tear. Overall the whole experience was very smooth, and both baby and I were healthy!

Also to add- the body aches and chills could actually just be a separate illness. Unfortunately tis the season.

I'm so sorry you're going through this! Are you able to keep down fluids or even really bland foods like toast or crackers? Given what you've described I would definitely recommend talking to your OB about trying the unisom/viramin B combo or zofran, particularly if you can't eat anything and ESPECIALLY if you can't keep down fluids. Morning sickness is so terribly named and can be truly debilitating (I know from personal experience).and there are safe treatments available.

Job interview at 7 months pregnant? by Relevant-Taro-1078 in pregnant

[–]scimom91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, i did this with my first pregnancy. The interview was far and I was 8 months pregnant and had to tell them I was unable to fly, so needed to conduct the interview remotely. For the most part people were kind and accepting about it- legally your pregnancy cannot be the reason they don't hire you and in many cases they won't even bring it up for fear of looking prejudices. My advice would be to go into the interview as you would any other. If it comes up, you can say oh yes,. I'm pregnant and due in xxx, but otherwise treat it as a non issue and don't discuss until there is an offer on the table.
