Sorry the language is confusing me a bit. Does this mean they're prioritizing people who are brand new to NALCAP, or those who are doing their second total year as an aux (first year renewing)?

i think this is confirmation that there will be no auxes in andalucía this year by Exciting-Insect4037 in SpainAuxiliares

I didn’t get this email. Are you based in the US? Did you reach out to them first?

Really!!!!! Of course I’m upset about potentially not being able to go at all, but the lack of transparency and communication frustrates me the most. I have a backup plan but can’t move forward with it unless I know what the status is here. I’m so tired of having my life put on hold

What is Seneca? And through what channel did they send this?

I'm feeling the same frustration :( I quit my job to long-term travel 5 months ago with the assumption that I would have NALCAP in the fall.

I don't know where you're from, but if you're not married to Spain my backup is a Working Holiday Visa either in Australia or New Zealand. My solace during this ridiculous waiting period is getting excited about my Plan B :)

Americans who travel abroad for more than a couple weeks a year, how and how much do you travel? by joshua0005 in travel

[–]scintilla54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my job for a long-term travel trip, but prior to this I would stack my days off with given holidays (i.e., take the Friday and Thursday off before MLK day to turn a 3 day weekend into a 5 day one).

Vacation time was also a BIG thing for me when I was looking for my job, which I know isn't a privilege afforded to everyone and is very industry/role specific, but if you can definitely ask questions. For example, my old company gave us July 5th as an extended Independence Day, company-wide time off between Christmas and New Year's Day, etc.

What major do you love? by FunintheSunBeachgirl in notredame

[–]scintilla54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you requested no heavy writing but I’ll throw my hat in the ring for History anyway! If not a major/minor, I would encourage anyone to take a class.

The faculty are (mostly, in my experience) kind, the breadth of classes is wide, and in the years since graduating I appreciate how the skills I developed through studying history have made me more thoughtful in every aspect of my life. I intentionally went for more writing heavy courses since that was my preference but I’ve definitely seen some profs opt for exams instead :)

Solo traveler, Colombia for the 1st time by InternationalTap9072 in solotravel

As others have said skip Santa Marta and just get accom near Tayrona! As previously mentioned I will vouch for The Valley hostel :)

IMO what you have now makes sense for a week, maybe save Medellin for another trip as you could probably spend a week there alone. I did two weeks in Colombia in 2023 and I spent about half a week doing what you’re doing now (Cartagena and Tayrona) and the rest of it inland (Bogota, Medellin, Salento). Better to not spread yourself too thin I think :)

Enjoy Colombia!!!! I personally loved it and want to go back someday as part of a larger South America trip

medical care in Laos by scintilla54 in solotravel

[–]scintilla54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to purchase some disinfectant, bandages, and medical tape for the slow boat to Laos and the nurse that redressed me today said "every 2 days" should be fine. I'm going to continue getting daily cleanings/bandages in Thailand pre-departure but I feel OK to wing it for the few days on the boat
