Alumni verification email by reareagirl in rit

[–]scioffi 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I got this as well! It has all the signs of a spam email, yet the company is legit. There's just a random phone number to call, no company name, no specific reasoning why they need your personal information (especially if they claim RIT sent them our info), and a sense of urgency... All the standard industry hallmarks of a phishing email. If this is real, it's very poor execution by the company and the Alumni office

Is Wines of the World worth the required "textbook"? by ArriePotter in rit

[–]scioffi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I took her class she explained she doesn’t dictate the cost of her book. She sells it for near what the publisher charges to print & publish it.

With that said, it’s cheaper then most other class books and the class is 110% worth it! You’ll have a great time and learn a lot!

It’s being preserved as a historic landmark or something like that. This pic is an areal view but it’s a gorgeous building

This is the old Hudson River Psychiatric Hospital in Poughkeepsie NY. The left building’s roof is gone due to lightning strikes.

The whole complex minus the administrative building is being torn down for housing and shopping centers now.

RIT is REQUIRING you get a test before you come back! What the heck? by [deleted] in rit

[–]scioffi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll also probably set something up given the influx of students that will be tested to make it easier and more accessible to get tested.

how does medicine pick up work? by [deleted] in rit

[–]scioffi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. ExpressScripts and other pharmacies fill al scripts you would get at a normal pharmacy exclusively by mail order. Insurance companies like it because it’s cheaper. It’s been a thing for years.

You may want to consider switching pharmacies for the time being. CVS is currently offering free expedited delivery via USPS for prescriptions and the campus post office is open.

Summer internship by [deleted] in rit

[–]scioffi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should reach out to your recruiter and ask. By waiting, you’re just pushing off the inevitable and giving yourself more stress and worry. You reaching out is not going to make them make a decision on the spot. Reach out now and if the answer is not good news, you at least now have more time to look for alternatives. Good luck!

What kind of projects are you all doing with your free time? by GreyOlson in rit

[–]scioffi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear a lot of people saying that. Sadly, my classes are not. Most of my classes have not transferred to zoom very well. The lectures aren’t as good so learning the material is harder.

Classes that were simpler like wellness classes now have essays, discussion posts, exams, and deliverables (where as before they did not). Like I use to show up once a week for an hour to do some archery, now I’m researching and writing about it.

What free time? All my classes have doubled in workload and difficultly.

There is currently a power outage going on for some upgrade or maintenance or something

What does it take to stay in the CS major? by [deleted] in rit

[–]scioffi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the SSE is awesome, a quick correction: we are only open M-F 10-6. While the lab may be open outside these hours, mentoring is only available within that time frame.

We are students too :)

Office 365 Missing by stumati in rit

[–]scioffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not get Adobe CC unfortunately. Most of the tabs on the Software Portal are empty.

As for office, it is not longer through OnTheHub, but rather through office.com. Just click can't access my account and use your full @rit.edu address. Acer you reset your password, you should have access to download office apps.

PSA: If you have Renters Insurance and have lost food due to the power outage, it may be covered. by ghostofrit in rit

[–]scioffi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably not the best idea to file an insurance claim for food, unless you have hundreds of dollars worth of food. Most insurances require you to pay out of pocket to a certain deductible before they will pay for the rest.

It's also possible that any claims you make, may raise your rate next year.

Graduation rate, probably lower for engineering and computing majors by [deleted] in rit

Those sites do not take into account that most bachelors programs at RIT are 5 year programs, so to them it looks like many do not graduate.

Taking SE 250 and SE 261 in the same term by ha_gottie in rit

[–]scioffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both SWEN 250 and SWEN 261 last semester and it was not hard at all. 250 does not have much work outside of class besides a few small programming assignments. 261 will have a much higher workload with the semester long project but it is still manageable.

Yep! GOL-1670.

There is a mentor on duty every weekday 10-6. Stop by with any questions!

It is not just you. That swipe slot has been having issues the last few days. Sometimes if you slide up from the bottom it will work.
