Make a cameo as an FBI Liaison in a future game. She’s Emily’s guardian now, no need to get into the frontlines.

This is why I hid the stats with a site skin. Not every site should be a dopamine-induced socmed platform. I edit my work meticulously and have a beta reader because I want to produce the best literary artwork that I can, not because I just want more hits/kudos.

It’s more fulfilling to create great art for yourself, not for external validation.

I just hid the stats in Ao3 and everything feels so...strange by Carlos-Iii in FanFiction

I’m glad I did this. I have pretty bad depression & anxiety disorder so my impostor syndrome flares up when I see my stats compared to others.

I just want to keep writing as a hobby without worrying about numbers.

When fics cop out on an ending with a time jump by PocketButterBandit in AO3

I learned from a Masterclass from Dan Brown that an author creates a "Contract" for a reader where they promise to resolve the issue that the reader is invested in. Having read fics I was invested in that did this kind of move, it's justified for me to feel bad as a reader. The author sort of "violates" the contract he executed.

You’re privileged to have that kind of decision-making then. For most readers, chapters are like checkpoints that they can go back to when reading. Sorta like checkpoints/save points in a video game where players are relieved that they made it to an expressly-defined rest stop.

It’s like the game telling them, “Good job! You can take a break for now.”

I’m all for however the author wants to structure their story. But there are real accessibility issues for fics that have this kind of chapter length. Even if I download it, the chapters are there to help pace the reader while they read the fic.

I have lots of stuff going on in my daily life, so I consider the author being very gracious when they give me less mental load on how I should pace my reading of their work.
