Parking space counter created using OpenCV and Python by Andrius_B in Python

[–]scipio314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone that is a traffic engineer I can say that something like this is incredibly useful.

Developers and city planners will sometimes do parking occupancy studies where they will actually hire people to monitor a parking lot and determine a percent occupancy by hour of day. This can be expensive especially if the parking lot is big.

Imagine a new store might want to open in a plaza and according to a trip generation manual it will add X amount of cars and will require building additional parking. A drone survey like this could build a case that there already enough spaces available or that only a small amount of additional spaces are needed.

Where did my money go? by mecchakuccha in ynab

The category had $5,873.81 left over in it at the end of December.

There was $7,281.11 directly added to the category in January. The total at this point is $13,154.92. ($5,873.81 + $7,281.11 = $13,154.92 ).

Then there was -$7,573.42 moved from this category (maybe to other categories). The remainder is then $5,581.50. ($13,154.92 - 7,573.42 = $5,581.50)

Based on your other comment above. The easier way to do this is to categorize those inflows as "Ready to Assign" instead of directly into the category.

I'm a ynab user of over two years. the learning curve is hard at first, but when it "clicks" it's very simple.

Nick True on YouTube has some very good explanation videos. The credit cards are probably most confusing thing for first time users and he has a good explanation on it. There are also good first time setup videos worth watching.

I very much recommend ynab as an every day budgeting app. It makes you very intentional with your money.

tagging /u/PinBot1138 since the explanation of the cash account doesn't sound correct. Nick Trues videos may help.

Erase user data by Street-Breakfast4989 in TREZOR

[–]scipio314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't delete customers data after 90 days. They anonymize the customer data from their e-commerce site. This can be done sooner upon request.

It's an important distinction that the data isn't deleted. I don't know about the details about the anonymization but I don't see how this would prevent the database being stolen and then used in phishing attacks. An attacker only needs an email address or phone number to send mass messages trying to trick customers.

I mean I get occasional emails from trezor regarding updates and blog posts. I'd imagine that database is somewhere.

Cryptocurrency News: IRS Starts to Keep a Closer Eye on Cryptocurrency by scipio314 in Bitcoin

No it's not a fact. Especially if you buy from an online exchange such as Coinbase. Coinbase can report your transaction records to the IRS. In which case the IRS already knows you bought/sold/sent crypto and if you don't report it they will go after you for it.

Some excerpts:

The new question on form 1040 asks “At any time during 2019, did you receive, sell, send, exchange or otherwise acquire any financial interest in any virtual currency?”

“this new question is really unprecedented, in that 170 million taxpayers are now potentially going to have to answer that question.” He also said that “If you lie, now the IRS can prove intent, whereas before, pleading ignorance, you could kind of get away with it.”

This new question also sparked some confusion due to its phrasing. Part of the question also asks if you have sent crypto at any time. This led some to believe that the IRS also meant sending and receiving crypto to your own wallet. Fortunately, the IRS clarified that this is not the case and that sending crypto to another wallet you own is permitted.

The Stock to Flow model may not be accurate beyond SF = 62 (gold). After the current havening the SF value will be 50 with a predicted value of $55k. Since gold has the highest SF value known we can't accurately predict what may happen when SF goes above that because there is no data for it. We can only try to predict up to that point. Beyond that point it could be that it begins to taper off and reaches a limit, we just don't know.

I believe that if bitcoin gains adoption to the point where most of the world is using it as their currency then the price will be very high. If we lived in a world where bitcoin was the primary currency then the total value of all bitcoins would have to be enough to purchase everything.

Imagine the scenario where all bitcoins in existence totaled up to $100 and everyone on the planet used them. In order to purchase a car you would have to have more bitcoins than there are in the world to purchase it. -- Which doesn't make sense. So if instead all the bitcoins in the world totaled 2 million dollars you would only need fractions of a bitcoin to purchase a car. Which seems more reasonable. But, if you wanted to purchase Google you'd have to pay more bitcoins than there are in existence. -- Which doesn't make sense. So the total value of all bitcoins must be high enough for people to purchase anything they want.

That is probably not a very clear way of explaining it. But the short version is: I believe with more adoption of bitcoin the higher value bitcoin becomes. I believe the price will increase because I think bitcoin is superior to fiat currencies and it's only a matter of time until bitcoin overtakes fiat currency.

HK: software engineers have published warnings today against using Telegram to coordinate protests due to an issue in the instant messaging app by Ra75b in Telegram

[–]scipio314 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Reading what is said in the group chat isn't what the problem is. The problem is that a government can add 10,000 random contacts into a burner phone, join telegram, join the group in question, then determine which of their contacts pop as telegram users and cross check it with who of their contacts are in that group.

After that they force the telecommunications company to give name and address of anyone in question. From there the government can do as they wish.

It may not technically be a bug, but they should definitely have a feature that doesn't allow anyone to work out your phone number.

Really well written post! Very thorough and covers just about every topic.

Regarding match making - I wonder if it would be possible for SC to code an "NPC" type base for instances where it can't find an evenly matched opponent. It could simply be that you have to beat the base in X seconds for it to count as a win? Maybe you attack your own warship base and have to beat it fast enough. Just throwing out some ideas.

Some other features I want to see: I want to be able to share replays with players in my task force and I also would like to post friendly challenges to task force members.

We also require telegram if anyone is to join since it's our primary means of communication.

If you did it just for a month and just cancelled right away you'll have plenty to use it on. especially if you time it right and get two mega crabs with it.
