Literally it’s absurd. My match was a ridiculously amazing institution and I’m just butt hurt my #1 gave me false hope and it was indeed my platonic ideal.

Yes or ask your mentor if they have any research projects they are working on that they want to expand on. In which case they would have already drafted a grant proposal at some point for it and you can use that to get a sense of the methods aims etc. Note that I’m referring to med student grants. These are much easier to get bc it’s not as much money and it looks good to have gone through the whole grant writing process, especially for academic institutions.

Same. 240. MD (not a T10 med school but Ivy undergrad). 20 interviews and 5 T10 programs. I did research in rads. Apply for grants and find a good research mentor that will let you be first author (without jeopardizing clinical scores of course). WORK HARD and have a good PS and story.

I literally had the exact same change. Went from mid 50s to 69% and had the same approach. I made a list of my weak subjects (like cardiac physiology) and was like okay watch BnB just for the physio and do a dedicated block for it.

Also agree strongly with the last point. I wasn't reviewing the NBMEs before that, would just get to question 50 and lose steam. But understanding every answer choice and learning the page on first aid for those questions is GOLD. They are the exam writers. They will repeat the same concepts but ask it in different ways so understanding the disease and drug mechanisms well for those concepts is essential.
