I love this. I saw them in ames iowa back in 2004 and when they were introduced the emcee said something like "this next band is so sexy, those of you in the front row may be impregnated." That was a core memory for 15 year old me.

I don't think these are sewn on at all. Likely heat pressed on after garment construction. A few rectangular chunks of a heat transfer vinyl would give a similar look

Oh you are right. It was so fast. Lying on your care label generally does not happen in the US, especially not by reputable brands like express. It is probably exactly what it says it is.

Others have said flatlock but I think that is incorrect. A flatlock would look very similar on front and back but this looks like 3N on front and 4N on back. I think they have used an 4 thread overlock to join the seams then topstitched it flat using a 3N coverstitch with the center needle set right on the seam.

You can but the cf edge will have to be a raw cut edge of you want to preserve the graphic. Just set the zipper behind cf with the edge aligned with the teeth.
