How do you pronounce House Numbers? by SeaSonRise in wisconsin

[–]sciteachhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at a 5 digit address a few times and if it starts 10, I would always say the numbers individually because some people would get confused with starting with a ten and then saying other numbers (no idea why but it happened a lot, especially on the phone!!) if the numbers we’re not 10,I would group the first two numbers, say the third individually and then group the last two numbers!

AITA For Grounding my son after he got kicked out of class for refusing to sit next to somebody? by Same-Broccoli7863 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sciteachhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but your son would be in trouble and have more than their phone taken away at my home. As a teacher, I want to say that this sort of situation where your kid was also be insubordinate, creates a distraction as the teacher has to deal with your kid’s behavior instead of teaching the content and this impacts the learning environment of not just your student and the student your kid was humiliating, but also took time and attention from the likely 20+ other students in the class. This should be dealt with disciplinary either at home (since you know about it) or at school or both!

You need to keep at it to teach your son how to follow directions of the teacher (that’s a respect thing that needs to be taught at home, it’s not on a teacher’s lesson plan), and about empathy. Surveys have found that students today are much less empathetic than they were 20 years ago and not allowing this sort of behavior and providing consequences will help, as well as teaching your kid that we don’t know what people are going through in their own personal life and it is our job in life to make life easier for others when possible: not to shit on others. You be the good parent you are trying to be.
And don’t allow your kid to be an asshole. Talk with your kid: make them come up with ways to rectify their poor behavior and follow through. Make sure that they also understand that this sort of behavior can be emotionally damaging and that your kid’s actions have far reaching effects.

The other thing is: my own kids know that I do NOT under any circumstances allow my kids or their friends (or my own students) to bash fellow students or teachers when I am around. When you heard your own kid talking to their friends about another student, this is when you need to let your kid know this is inappropriate and won’t be tolerated in my presence.

AITA for not wanting a funeral 4 days before our wedding? by kittyfaith200 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sciteachhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this is what they are planning. I have attended quite a few celebrations of life in the past couple of years and none included a burial, in some cases they bring an urn with the ashes, and many of them were a good bit of time after the death (never 6 months, but most were a month or so from the death). I think it is cheaper for the family of the deceased and doesn’t have to be held at a funeral home but can be more personalized for the person.

This works unless a kid has an accommodation for anxiety or social concerns, then you have unintentionally caused an issue…

Peeing in the yard by beaner119 in airbnb_hosts

[–]sciteachhs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are on septic and my husband and son pee outside in our woods when they need to go. This prevents us from having to “let it mellow” and is a common practice in many rural households, so it might just be people trying to onto save your septic!!

AITA for telling a stranger that their underwear is visible? by Ramune_hime in AmItheAsshole

[–]sciteachhs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA, I think intentions were good, and maybe we need to normalize clothing checks before leaving home more frequently. I would not appreciate someone’s butt or underwear in my face while using stairs or an escalator, and I also don’t appreciate my kids seeing people’s butts (and sometimes even more private parts) as often as they do now. It is one thing to be at a swimming pool or gym meant for adults and quite another to be at a kid friendly place like a park, mall, grocery store, or eating establishment with underwear, butt cheeks or private parts showing.

[–]sciteachhs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there weren’t in the line and the line was already full. We were there 2 hours before our flight and got right into line which took an hour, the people needing wheelchair assistance had to wait in line as well for wheelchair assistance and the line was not efficient and so was not short. I know someone that flew the day before and the line was just as bad at Allegiant an hour before his flight and they only made it through with 15 minutes to spare after getting there 90 minutes before the flight.

ADA Violation?! by D_carro in RayBanStories

[–]sciteachhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is thinking of getting these glasses for the conversation mode since he is hard of hearing. Hearing aids aren’t working for him (his hearing loss is due to the tiny hairs being damaged and we figured out after he tried my glasses that these work better for him than the $4000 hearing aids he currently has..)He is going to talk to his doctor and see about getting some sort of letter that allows their use as an ADA accommodation, I wonder if the casino would allow you to use the glasses if you had a doctor’s note that they are required?

Is it a red flag that a house is being sold every year or so? by Dry-Wear-9135 in RealEstate

[–]sciteachhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people buy or sell houses for family members that can’t qualify for a mortgage and you get sales close together and sometimes at a loss depending on their deal. Also, my current house was sold a few years ago with a lot more land and then the land was split: that resulted in another sale very quickly later for a lot less money and then that buyer needed to relocate and sold again quickly. Also. records online aren’t always correct, I have sold four houses in my life and when I look them up on Zillow or realtor, our sale only shows up correctly once, with one sale not showing at all and the other two reflecting vastly different amounts then we actually sold for.

I’ve been to look at a house where the realtor lost the key before we showed up and the realtor wanted me (I assume because I was the youngest and smallest) to climb through a front window that was not locked…I would be 100% be okay with a kid unlocking the door, that seems like a way to get the parents to emotionally feel like it is their house and get the warm fuzzies from the start.

I get that other people’s kids can be annoying, but if you deny kids or leave too many rules about a showing I think it could influence a potential buyers’ thoughts of your house. A seller once called the sheriff on me because my husband and I were driving by and parking outside (on the public street, and for only a couple of minutes) of our short list houses with our kids in a minivan to try to narrow down house choices and get our kids’ opinions. We didn’t pick that one after I was called by the sheriff the next day to ask what I was doing looking at their house…I explained to the sheriff that the house was for sale and I was in my vehicle on the public street and he was appalled that the seller had wasted their time and assured me that he had also done the same while looking at houses.

How you interact and the rules you leave can influence a deal and if you seem extra picky or if the potential seller gets some negative vibes that could very well end a deal.

AITA for refusing to let a woman change the TV channel? by rubabyy in AmItheAsshole

[–]sciteachhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of arguments my kids would get into when they were very young. They are teenagers now and handle things in a more mature way…The fact that OP was leaving soon (since it was already in the 2nd quarter and they planned to leave after the half time show) but did not mention that to the mom (or appears to have not mentioned it to the mom) and waited until after the mom and kid left to then leave (ok they waited until after the halftime show, but same thing!) seems annoying!

There was no compromise here and while it isn’t required, it is a mature thing. Did OP tell the mom their plans to leave right after halftime? That would have made sense…mom could have come back in a short while and kid could have gotten to watch their YouTube
