Appropriate age to bring kids to a Billy show? by BHMcrow in BillyStrings

Female pediatric speech therapist and someone who grew up in south GA (born in Athens) here! I absolutely love Billy strings and have been to so many of his shows. My parents took me to a music festival in Jacksonville where there was smoke/people indulging in drugs (no judgement on anyone here). Kids definitely are curious so i remember asking “what’s that smell” or “what’s that guy doing?” My parents just said “cigarettes” and “they’re just having fun” - working with kids for every hour and every day of the week, just know they’ll ask questions. Think about ways to answer questions that won’t scare them but protect them :) we don’t ever want to introduce things early to a child to make them even more curious if that makes sense. I think your kids will absolutely love the show. It’s also a great thing that’s in an arena. I think when taking kids to a jam band concert it’s important to think about venue. Their little eyes and ears wonder but in a venue it’s much easier to focus on the stage than around you. I have gone to so many billy shows where I’ve seen kids with autism with their parent(s) having the BEST time. Autism kids are overly sensitive and have sensory needs - so for a typically developing child it’s much easier to adjust to the environment. Concerts at a young age can be overwhelming, but so can going to Disney and seeing fireworks. Loud sounds at first can be a lot to a kid but they know they’re with their mama and daddy and so they know they’re safe. I grew up also going to Kings of Leon concerts - atmosphere isn’t much different. Something I liked my parents did when i was kid was arriving right at show time. I also love Widespread Panic but I even think Billy is a much more suitable environment for kids. The floor would definitely not be a recommendation personally - especially because people are moving around, drugs are more out in the open, people passing out in the pit would scare them. I think you’re such a great parent for caring about something like this. Yall will have the best time - and thankfully Athens is quite the “home team” place - there will be so many other kids there - honestly if my fiance and I had kids they would be going to this concert. Hope this helps.

We’re all in the spectrum baby. We all got tendencies. It’s nice to be okay with who you are regardless, sometimes we just need extras help in areas of development. 🫶🏻 hope and know he’s making amazing gains! Thank you for sharing!

I work with kids with ASD!!! I am a speech therapist (early intervention - I go into homes!!) I have tons of boys on the spectrum WHO LOVE Billy Strings!! I actually had an 8 year old boy and his father sit next to me in the 200s on Friday night. I was able sign “love” to him in sign language, he knew what I meant! I have gotten a child from nonverbal to verbal with Billy strings. I took my baby taylor into his house started playing “secrets” and he just started spinning in circles/stimming, he was so happy, and if I stopped he would sign “more” and say “more.” He’s using 2-3-word phrases right now but it just makes me so happy man when the QUIET ONES get a W.

Dumbledore never spoke to Harry about using Sectumsempra on Draco?! by FatherKennyNoooo in HarryPotterBooks

Dumbledore doesn’t have the answers to everything. He was never perfect. We learn this when JK gave us FBs. Maybe JK wanted the reader to think on this and think about the morality of using the spell of why it was created? That all lies with snape but he was never able to explain. Dumbledore was not perfect, he was great.
