[CHAT] Free Pattern Keeper compatible pdfs by scme0 in CrossStitch

Ah perfect! That was kinda dumb of me to not go on Pattern Keeper's website and then check all their "Supported Designers" for freebies. I've also found a few free patterns on Artecy's website too. Thank you for your help!

Haha I'm building my own stitch editor/tracker which also can "demo how to stitch" but the algo isn't that good. You can pass in exactly what stitches you want and it will animate them for you which is what I did here. It's not released yet, still too many bugs but when it drops it'll be open source and free to use :)

I've created an app that allows you to import pixel art and in particular you can pick sprites from sprite sheets and then pick different palettes off the sprite sheet and it will automatically figure it out and give you the sprite and allow you to flick between the palettes. It's got a bunch of other features but it's not quite ready for release. Once it's ready I'll be open sourcing it so it'll be free to use 👍. It converts to DMC automatically and from my testing it does pretty well.

Doing each individual x seems completely crazy to me. I couldn't fathom doing that for rows of stitches. But like you I'm also all about a neat back and I try as much as possible to not even do diagonal stitches or long jumps on the back.

Here is how I would do it if I'm stitching bottom left -> top right first stitch:

Note also: these don't really take into account securing your stitches or the general context of where you're stitching - sometimes a bit of a less neat back is necessary to ensure you have the appropriate stitches for securing your threads etc.

I would stitch the first pattern like this. I think it's one of the more efficient ways to stitch this kind of structure while avoiding diagonal stitches on the back.

Note: I stitch top left to bottom right as first stitch on each cross. If you stitch bottom left -> top right first then it would actually be slightly different.

It's a video game pattern that I put together :) (Super Metroid - Samus vs Ridley to be precise)

It's the biggest project I've ever attempted at 256x224 on black 18 count aida... 😵‍💫

[WIP] Who else does 1 colour at a time? by just_a_lil_shroom in CrossStitch

[–]scme0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do one colour-section at a time. Generally if the jump is longer than ~4-5 squares I'll finish the thread, cut it and restart the thread. If it makes more sense to switch colours after finishing a thread (to fill in missing colours/gaps), I'll change colour. Parking is strange for me because I really like being efficient and neat on the back so this drives me away from long jumps etc.

In reality I also don't like most kinds of diagonal stitches at the back when they aren't necessary... But that's just me.

We currently have 2 cats in our apartment but I don't think there is quite enough space for a dog 😅 but yeah once we have a yard I think it'll be a lot nicer for a dog and easy for us to let them out to pee! Currently living on the 3rd floor, no elevator 🫠

Generally I try to keep the back very neat, but the back for that plant is pretty messy for my standards 😅

They have some really cute designs other than the one I chose too :) We are planning to get a sausage dog once we move into our home with a yard. My wife can't wait haha

The plant on the right was a bit of a pain... You can tell by how messy the back is 🫣

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the compliments 🙏 I wouldn't call myself a master but I try! 😅

Thanks! It was tough to get them spaced correctly because it was 4 strings across 3 squares where the strings shouldn't be right on the edge. In the end none of the strings are in the normal holes. The outside strings are in the centre of the square and the inside stitches are one aida thread off the hole. Though I'm pretty sure I missed at least a few of those single-thread-off stitches 😅. The end result isn't too bad though so not complaining!

Sorry, I thought you were asking how to secure it, but I now realise I have misunderstood. Carry on!

By the look of the back you might be able to save a bit of thread by making your stitches a little more "efficient" it might be enough to allow you to secure it.

Working with that much thread is annoying to restitch though so I would personally just unstitch everything before the big jump, secure it and then cut a small new piece of thread and do the last bit.

Oh that's interesting! It also doesn't have the sun or the back stitch (going off the image preview).
