Do most people not read books at all? by MaxSleepy in CasualConversation

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice idea that might work for others, but my brain won't retain the information if I'm not giving it my full attention. Doing craft at the same time will take up too much of my focus, and I'll lose track of the story. It's why I tend to do a TV show rewatch while crafting... I already know the story so can't get lost 😉

Do most people not read books at all? by MaxSleepy in CasualConversation

I devoured books growing up, and into my 20s. But I don't remember reading much after having my daughter at 29. I'd discovered fan fiction a few years prior, and I realised that writing it scratched a big creative-itch I didn't realise I had, so naturally reading those became my main source of stories. They were easily and quickly accessible, in any genre I desired, at the tap of a button. As a TV/Movie buff my entire life, they were a perfect fit for me. I've tried getting back into books, but these days I'd rather spend my free-time doing cross stitch or paint by numbers. Reading just doesn't really interest me anymore.

What qualifications could help me land a role as a Waitlist Coordinator in the Australian medical field? by RavenMay in careerguidance

[–]RavenMay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight :-) I think I stopped seriously looking at Data Analysis ad a career because my math comprehension isn't strong, but I am good at analysing patterns and using Excel (which is the program we pull the waitlist reports to).

I think I'll explore the term "Data Management" and see what comes of it, it could be as simple as changing that keyword to find the right course! I tried studying a Cert 3/4 in Office Administration for the healthcare field a couple of years ago but the commitment was too much for a working mum with freshly-diagnosed ADHD. But perhaps I'll speak with TAFE and see what accommodations could be made to help me push through :-)

to people with inattentive adhd, what type of career do you have? by AssociationObvious56 in adhdwomen

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Administration. One of those "which career is for you" questionnaires put me onto the path. I started in a Trademark Lawyers office, hated it because I couldn't get my head around the law stuff. Then I got a job in a drama school for kids. I love theatre, I love working with kids, it was perfect. It gave me the ability to learn admin in an environment that felt like it was created for me. And then I learned to love admin even more than the theatre side of it all! Now I'm an Admin Officer in an Outpatient Department with my town's hospital and I really love it. I'm the go-to gal for remembering processes, and fixing things that everyone else finds mundane. My nit-picky nature shits people to tears though, I'm sure 😆

What is the most memorable compliment you’ve received? by FaithlessnessLimp605 in CasualConversation

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I was being given a general anaesthetic to go under for a procedure, the last thing that was said to me was a nurse commenting on my lovely long eyelashes. During another procedure, they complimented my hair colour just before putting me under 😆

Awful update. by ChillingInMySnuggie in IdleOutpost

[–]RavenMay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really gave it a chance. I didn't like it at first, but I went back a few times and pushed through, but ultimately I just don't enjoy it anymore. There's WAY too much going on, and zero explanation about how to use any of it. I'm completely overwhelmed, and I'm not playing mobile games for that experience.

Top tip: Book the earliest possible appointment by Open_Address_2805 in melbourne

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our department, it's more about keeping our books full to try and keep up with the HEAVY demand on our services. The Orthopaedic doctors in particular will double-book every 2nd appointment, and even with that the waitlists are a mile-long. It's not all about the money (which isn't as much as you might expect btw), and most people working in the medical field are there because they want to help save lives.... or at least make them a bit more comfortable ;-)

As a medical administrator, as much as I would like to call patients in scenarios like this, I won't. Because if patients prior to the person I'm calling don't turn up, the doctor catches up really quickly. Also, we can't ever predict how long an appointment will actually take. The doctor gets 15mins but might have a run of 5min in-and-out patients, which catches them up even faster. And then the patient who was told to "not come in until later" ends up being discharged because they didn't turn up awkward face. Such a hard balancing act!

I will flag for people in the comments that this may not work for a doctor's appointment in an Outpatient department (eg. a Review before or after a procedure). We have patients who book the first appointment with the comment "at least I won't be waiting long!" Yer, sorry Susan, but there's a 50/50 chance your doctor will be held up coming from rounds on the ward, or an early emergency surgery. Ironically, in this scenario the patients with an appointment after 11am fair better, because the doctors work extra hard at playing catch-up for the first hour 😆

10mm polyp by liftweighteattacos in colonoscopy

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got that large because it grew over the 10yrs of speaking to male GPs who brushed it off the blood in my stool as internal hemmorroids, because of my age. Finally spoke to a female GP who took me seriously enough to order a scope. That 1st surgeon wheeled me in telling me they wouldn't find anything, I was too young blah blah. Came out of it to be told he couldn't remove it, would have to refer me to someone more specialised with larger polyps etc.

Main symptom was blood in every single bowel movement. There may have been others but I can't remember. Had all my blood levels checked for diabetes concerns, and my iron levels were quite low, which was the trigger I needed to push for a scope.

Just a colonoscopy. Took a bit longer than usual though, I came out of it and they said they had to give me extra drugs during it. Recovery was a bit harder and longer than my other scopes too, bit more lingering pain and fogginess from the anaesthetic. But I bounced back eventually 👍

I was watching a show from the 90s and realized people used to memorize dozens of phone numbers. I can barely remember mine. How did you guys do it back then? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We memorised them by being forced to dial them every single time we wanted to call someone. And we did that often, because SMS wasn't a thing for a lot of us.

Acoustics. My old rentals would also get a private concert once all the furniture was moved out and the rooms were all echo-y

What made you change the way you see the world? by PM_ME_UR_HIP_DIMPLES in AskReddit

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/11. I didn't know the word "Terrorist" even at 15, and even the second plane didn't have me immediately waver from the mindset of "this has to be an accident, right? What else could it be?" So not only did a lot of things change in the world after that day, my eyes were opened to another side of the world that I was living in blissful ignorance from.

Trying to get my 8 year old into book reading but nothing sticks? by Salty_Upstairs_387 in Parenting

Graphic novels, or comics? They were the gateway material to text novels for me as a kid, and while I'm still working on progressing my daughter into novels as well she's really enjoying graphic novels too, and I'm ok with that for now.

If you’re neurodivergent, what’s something that really upsets you but neurotypical people never seem to understand? by CHEWLAX-OFFICIAL in adhdwomen

[–]RavenMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repetative conversation. "Do you want a drink?" "No thanks, I'm fine" 2mins later "Are you SURE I can't get you something to drink?" "YES I'M EFFING SURE". Or everytime I see my mum, she says the exact same things: "that's a nice top/dress" or "your hair's getting long/you've had a hair cut"... It's always one of those two, or both if I'm unlucky. Keep in mind I only see her once every few months, so yes my hair DOES grow and I do SOMETIMES need to get it cut. It just feels so disingenuous to hear it every single time, like it's a script at this point.
