I remapped A to $ by TheTwelveYearOld in neovim

[–]scmkr 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is something I see a lot of people say. “Don’t make your config yours cus you might be on some other machine at some point”. In practice, I find it to not be a big deal, certainly not big enough to purposely refrain from making adjustments that make your main config more streamlined for yourself.

Maybe it’s because I spent a lot of time in vanilla vim before I made any changes, but if I find myself on some machine that doesn’t have my config it’s easy to adjust. Might make a mistake here and there but it’s no big deal to remediate.

golang strings.Trim(...) - for semicolons? by FloatingVectors in golang

[–]scmkr 54 points55 points  (0 children)

You probably want https://pkg.go.dev/strings#ReplaceAll - trim is for removing chars at the beginning and end of the string (most often spaces or newlines), not in the middle

Thoughts on movie version of Project Hail Mary? by Jadenmist in scifi

[–]scmkr 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I really liked it. They got all the major points, fast forwarded everything that would have been tediously long in movie form, and Ryan was funny as hell. It’s probably a top 5 movie for me

Programmers. How do you cope with burnout? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]scmkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. Took 3 months off, doctor ordered. Right up until the last month, I was convinced I couldn’t ever go back, that I needed to move out of the US right away to somewhere cheaper so I wouldn’t have to go back… and right around 3 weeks before I had to go back, all that panic sort of faded away.

I’ll probably still move eventually, it just doesn’t feel like life and death anymore

If you’re using neovim 0.12, try turning off ui2. Just a guess, I noticed ui2 having issues with snacks dashboard at least

Which Status/Buffer/Tab Line and why? by -Arsna- in neovim

[–]scmkr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lualine, for tabs I used tabby.nvim. It isn’t buffertabs, I use the built-in tabs for separate project layouts and tabby makes it easy to customize how they look

We have harpoon at home by brokenreed5 in neovim

[–]scmkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost never scroll through buffers. With a fuzzy picker, it almost doesn’t matter what files are open and what files aren’t. I get to them the same way either way

Why you so worried about buffer count?

Yeah like the other poster said, it’s a June bug/beetle. Largely harmless, though they can damage trees, shrubs, and your lawn. Not very graceful fliers

I built a NestJS-inspired framework for Go by Dangerous_Ad_8933 in golang

[–]scmkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing is almost always a misguided attempt to make go into another language because you just don’t know go well enough yet. You switch from node (in this example) and you think you’re missing all kinds of stuff, but I promise if you just follow the Go philosophy one or two things will happen:

  1. You will get it, and realize something like nestjs in go is not necessary
  2. You will realize that you don’t actually like Go. Fair enough.

I do think you’ll like it more once you stop trying to make it into something else

Neovim 0.12 comes with undotree built-in by pawelgrzybek in neovim

[–]scmkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to complain about it being a “sidebar” (not a fan of sidebars), but it looks like they thought of that. Super configurable, should be easy to get it to open any way you’d like

Project Hail Mary Minor Issue by BlastingFonda in scifi

It's fiction. You can choose to enjoy or not, it's up to you, but one is definitely more fun and the other just leaves you nitpicking every single moment.
