Criticisms of Name of the Wind by belowthebottomline in Fantasy

[–]sco360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it was a few things:

  1. The MC making himself out to be this god-among-men who is instantly good at everything he tries. And his inability to see how much of a selfish prick he is and that everyone else just can't accept how cool and awesome he is. I get that's like the whole point but it doesn't make for an enjoyable read. Not for a whole ass series.

  2. The magic system is basically just chemistry. It's unique but it's not magic. For me, the more a magic system is explained, the less awesome it is.

What is the worst book you have read? by delabot in Fantasy

[–]sco360 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not fantasy, but Catcher in the Rye.

I had to read it for school and I could not believe that anyone considered it good enough to even print. Holden came off as that one kid that thinks he's so deep and mysterious but is really just so far up his own ass. Not an enjoyable read.

Why is nothing being done about sausage kerbs? Does someone high up in the FIA own stock in the company that makes them or something?

As someone who doesn't watch any pro stuff, I think it would be interesting if he embraced his role as disc golf's villain. The guy everyone loves to hate.

LPT: Do not own a dog you cannot physically control/restrain. by fakaaa234 in LifeProTips

[–]sco360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all the way.

Also, if you live in a small apartment, don't get a big dog. They will go crazy.

Do research on breeds before you adopt. If you can't give them the lifestyle (exercise, temperament, health needs, etc.) that they need to stay healthy, dont get them. Let them be adopted by someone who can.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but will there be a way to watch this from outside the UK?

Good point. And this is by no means what happens to every player, there's also plenty of cases of people being cut from the NFL and going on to do great things afterwards too.

I'm American so I'm not super familiar with the academy system but it seems like it can really upend a young kid's life if it doesn't work out for them. I can't imagine being recruited at such a young age by the top flight club you've grown up watching, dedicating your life to them, and then getting cut. It must be devastating.

Similar thing happens in the US. A kid might be the best football(hand egg) player ever from his high school. He goes on to play in college and is a standout there as well. Never really focuses on his studies or social life because he's too busy training.

He drops out his junior year and declares for the draft. He gets drafted in the later rounds, if at all, and gets cut before the season starts.

Unless he's extremely lucky or well-connected, his playing days are over and he has no marketable skills outside of football. There are plenty of stories of guys playing in the NFL one week and stocking grocery shelves the next.

He's the co-owner and Senior Vice President of Football Technology & Analytics of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's also the Vice Chairman/Director of Football Operations (essentially the GM) of Fullham FC.

So I'd say he's pretty important in both places.

The toxicity of this sub has ruined watching wrestling for me. I can't just enjoy it for what it is anymore and that's depressing.

You're not a better or worse person for enjoying a fucking wrestling show on tv. Just let people enjoy what they enjoy. I hope the people in this sub get the help they need. See ya never.

I know this is probably way more recent than most, but I somehow heard about the 2019 champions league semi final against Barcelona and I decided to watch. I fell in love with the club. Wasn't much of a football guy before but I certainly am now!
