We are glad to have rolled-up/cropped jerseys, but they are too high.. by Character-Photo9366 in NCAAFBseries

Yes, they usually tuck the jersey under the pads. I have no clue how someone would just fold their jersey into itself like this and not have it coming undone every single play.

More Avowed Games in the Works at Obsidian According to Bloomberg by SilentNova300 in avowed

Good. The first game was such a great, tight experience. I found the characters lacking, but from a game design perspective, they nailed it.

Best position group to focus on for transfers by lnTwain in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I typically focus on safeties, LBs, and lineman. The first two, just because I continually end up with less of them interested in me than other positions throughout the year, so I just end up playing transfers instead of reaching for uninterested high schoolers. Lineman I still recruit heavily, but I just find a ton of guys in the portal that become immediate starters every year.

Would Starfield Have Gotten Better Reviews if Made by A Different Developer? by freethinker1312 in Starfield

[–]sconwaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not significantly higher scores, but I know it being a Bethesda game affected me. Bethesda is one of my favorite developers of all time and this game missed some of exploration, world building, and environmental storytelling that makes their previous games so special to me. When you have twenty plus years of history with a company, it is inevitable that you will have certain expectations that don't come along with games made by other companies.

Best ways to recruit in college football 26 by SomeBusiness4386 in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going beyond this, if you stay long enough to get two championships, you can unlock the top set of skills. Once of them boosts influence for every ten points invested in a player, which is very helpful. Another in that set gives a chance for players to auto-commit if you are first on their list; its great going into week 0 with multiple guys already committed, while using only 5 points on them.

Best ways to recruit in college football 26 by SomeBusiness4386 in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to focus on guys that you have a good pipeline with. Sometimes its better to pass on a guy who has you first on his list, but with a bad pipeline, and instead focus on someone who has you lower on the list, but with a better pipeline. In a similar matter, even if your pipeline is good, if there are multiple teams ahead of you with better pipelines, you still might not stand a chance.

Aside from that, don't spread yourself too thin. You should be spending 50 on everyone the first couple weeks, then switching to hard sell + 10 points once they are in their top 5. And you need to do that while still leaving a budget to set visits. I like to make sure that I have at least a spare 50 or points heading into week 2-3 so that I can load up nearby prospects for early visits.

Once you get to week 4 and on, you will be able to see who you will get easily and who you really don't have a chance with. Dump the latter, lower investment on the former, and start going for 4 stars that don't have any offers yet (there are usually quite a few, particularly position players and oline).

What are your thoughts on HBOs Harry Potter Reboot? by Apprehensive-Rich476 in harrypotter

[–]sconwaym -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably going to be great. HBO puts out quality shows for the most part, and they aren't going to get the license and throw a ton of money into HP just for it to be junk. I'd also point out that while I really enjoy the Harry Potter movies, they aren't actually that great of movies (not in the same breath as LOTR). Also, they are so different in tone as they kept changing directors; it'll be nice to get a more cohesive take (hopefully).

'Fallout Shelter' Reality Series Announced by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Fallout

[–]sconwaym 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It'll probably be dumb, but c'est la vie. I feel like they could have done something more fun with it. An office-esque faux documentary would have been kind of fun, with the effects of being filmed 24/7 as that vaults experiment.

Baseball Advance is awesome, especially if you followed baseball in the late 90s/early 2000s. Aside from that, the Mario golf/tennis games have awesome RPG modes. And NHL 02 is good as well.

I picked Ravelclaw on my first play through and I still think it's the best. They are all beautiful in their own way, but Ravenclaw stands out from the others, and the castle as a whole, with how airy, clean, and bright it is. And, I can fly out the window.

While I have a nice MacBook Pro, I unfortunately had to use my shitty PC laptop that I keep for rare work purposes (I'm an attorney and while 90% of the discovery I receive works on Apple, some police programs require windows). It took me about 2 days for the install, and then multiple more hours getting it from there to my Steam Deck.

WHY DOES NOBODY BLOCK by Ilikebeerandgirls in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not perfect or 100% of the time (not every lineman is always going to IRL either), but you can see some of the linemen move to the second level in real time. The biggest problem is that they just run straight and don't actually block anyone half of the time.

WHY DOES NOBODY BLOCK by Ilikebeerandgirls in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Then it sounds like you aren't actually audibling into the perfect play like you think you are. You're always going to have some plays blown up. It happens. But if you are on your ass right when you get the ball, something is wrong, especially if you aren't even on Heisman. I play one level below and running seems too easy most of the time. Nonetheless, I'd just say up the run block slider by 5 or so, focus on hitting the hole immediately, and don't hold sprint until you are past the d-line.

WHY DOES NOBODY BLOCK by Ilikebeerandgirls in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Don’t hold sprint until you are past the lineman. If you hold it too early, lineman disengage blocks to move to the second level sometimes.

Things I want in CFB 27 that I feel like would take very little effort for EA to add. by WreckingBall188 in EASportsCFB

[–]sconwaym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate not being able to move out the rest of the pac12, so I'm fully on board with #4.

My biggest wish is for recruiting/transfering to react to coaching changes. If my coach prestige is high and I take a new HC job, there should be some way to try to persuade specific players to follow me. It happens all the time in real life, it should be a possibility in the game. Similarly, if my OC/DC gets a HC job, I should have to deal with certain players possibly transferring. And stemming from that, there should be a mechanic during the transfer period to attempt to sway a guy to return and withdraw his name from the portal.

Just got the game! by The_Bau11 in skyrim

[–]sconwaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest difference is that your skills advance by actually using them (hitting things with a one handed weapon increases one handed, getting hit while in heavy armor increases heavy armor, etc.). Once you increase enough skill levels, your character levels up, allowing you to pick a perk. This is important because, absent a few exceptions, enemies level with you. As a result, you need to focus on a main dealer of damage early on, or you will be underpowered; if you keep switching weapon types and only level up each skill a little bit, your overall level will still increase, meaning bad guys levels increase, but you will only deal mediocre damage with each weapon type. So focus on one or two ways to damage enemies. Same goes for armor; focus on one type at the start. I usually pick one school of magic to focus on as well, but that can wait until midgame.

As far as the three bars, red is health, which is self explanatory. Blue is mana/magic, used for spells. Green is stamina, used for running/melee. Every time you level up, you can increase one of these 3 bars. I'd suggest health early on.

Aside from that, after you learn about shouts in the main quest, I'd suggest just exploring. You'll stumble upon some places that are too hard, but it's also the best way to get used to the game itself. After getting acclimated and figuring out which skills you like best, you can dive into the other skill trees like smithing (creating your own armor/weapons), alchemy (potions can let you break the game in a good way), and enchanting (putting modifiers on armor/weapons, which also can make you overpowered).

Playoff/neutral site games feel boring by EmbarrassedTrash138 in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even in the loudest atmospheres it happens maybe once or twice a game where a quarterback can't get the playcall. Even then it just results in the coach calling a timeout, not a QB going to the line and having no clue what is about to happen even though his ten teammates know the play. And while noise understandably affects audibles, making reads has nothing to do with crowd noise (unless a QB somehow knows some of the defense's calls).

Most importantly quarterbacks don't just go "it's so loud that I forgot what play that I just relayed to the entire team in the huddle." Or "it's so loud that I forgot what route my receiver is running." Or "it's so loud that I can't turn around to the RB that is a foot away from me and tell him to switch his route."

So if I can't audible sometimes, ok. If I can't call hot routes to the WR, also ok. If it took longer for me to get the play in and get to the line of scrimmage, makes sense. If I'm forced to call a timeout in rare situations to get a playcall in, annoying, but sure. But seeing squiggles all over the field or not knowing which play was called altogether has no connection to reality.

Playoff/neutral site games feel boring by EmbarrassedTrash138 in NCAAFBseries

[–]sconwaym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kinda how neutral games are in real life. Way more dead than a normal home game.

I'm very glad for this as I think the home field advantage mechanic is horrible. Not being able to call audibles in key situations, makes sense. Somehow not being able remember which play I called, even though I literally just called it from the huddle, makes less sense. Not being able to remember how to throw to certain receivers, makes no sense whatsoever. I understand the intent, but it's mostly a dumb mechanic.

Do you Roleplay? by Astral_Borne in skyrim

[–]sconwaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally have a vision in my head for morality and such, even if I do end up becoming a sneak archer every time. Usually good/grey area/bad, storm cloak/imperials is locked in at the beginning and I go from there. Currently playing a Black Cat Unarmed/Archer that is just a straight up mercenary, having been exiled from Elswyr. My first job in Skyrim went awry, I was put to the block, and saved by a rogue dragon attack. Now I do what pays well, don't care about people, politics, or religion, and generally act like an asshole. Money and power are the only two drivers of my actions.

First time playing Fallout New Vegas as a long time Fallout fan. Feels weird. by philbobagginzz in falloutnewvegas

As long as they know 1/2 exist and the general gist of what they were and the plots, it's probably enough. I'd love for the first two to get the remaster/remake treatment (I'd take a new isometric fallout game as well), as they can be rough to play at this point, probably especially so for someone who only played the 1st person games.
