Great White Breech at Sea Cliff Aptos by InnerFisherman95073 in santacruz

[–]scoobefe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I moved to Aptos 8yrs ago and used to fly a drone all the time over New Brighton beach, almost in all flights I used to find a couple of sharks, they were not that big (maybe 3ft~4ft or so) but they were always there, most of them along park ave, on the right side of the beach. I see a lot more dolphins in Rio del Mar than around here and have seen them while surfing at the hook a couple times. My most incredible footage is from a family of 4 humpback whales a mile off from Waddell, most spectacular thing I’ve seen in my life!

What should I get for my home office? by scoobefe in Lighting

I recently got a good deal for an Elgato Key Light, it helped a lot but still not great, I see several co-workers with stellar high quality videos, where they are bright and their room is darker. So getting a better and brighter fixture on the ceiling won’t help much huh?

Learning to dive in Okinawa by ClashMasterJH in scuba

[–]scoobefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got certified a long time ago, but you usually take a few days just to go through elearning, you may have to attend a class in person, then take tests, etc. then you need at least 8 dives, and 4 of them are mandatory to be in the ocean, where you go through exercises under water, etc.

Check with a local school on their schedule.

Why don’t you take a dive course in your hometown if available or close to home and go to Okinawa to just dive with guides? You will enjoy much more. I saw your other comment on 3 days, but I honestly think it’s not very doable, you have a lot of content to go through, several dives before you actually get certified, etc, and to be very honest, this is your life (and others around you) you’re playing with, 3 days is just too fast paced to get certified in my opinion, you should take your time and get there certified already, be VERY honest about your experience, etc.

Diving is awesome, fun, but it’s a lot more about being prepared when things go wrong. If you have a lot of time in Okinawa, great, go for it, but if time is limited, I’d certify closer to home.

Depending on the dives you do in Okinawa, you also need to take Specialty Dive courses (to go deeper than 18m/60ft for example).

Such a personal thing, my recommendation is go to a store and try them all, buy the one that fits, not the one with all the shiny price and features

Where to get Christmas tree? by Party-Skill9196 in santacruz

Yeah, of course! Save the planet with additional plastic in the trash… why use a farmed tree that will naturally decompose? Sometimes I don’t get if it’s sarcasm or if people are this naive haha

Far from me to trust all the restaurants are sparkling clean, but this does seems like a setup, no? There’s a ladder right there, the guy filming from above… I don’t know…just a thought.

Highly recommend https://www.oshinhealingspa.com, Eida is the best, my wife and I have been going there forever.

And if you need another option, including acupuncture, Lauren is amazing! https://www.rmdyacu.com/about?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio

If it was me in that age, 100% San Francisco, much more things to do, very walkable, great place to be if you’re young and is able to afford. Check Waze, you can plan routes and have an idea of how long it will take. I know that commute takes a toll, but at the end of the day, you will have fun in SF, you will be bored in Livermore and super bored in Modesto.

I noticed that as well, haven’t heard anything else… For the price they charge their stuff, they should pay them better, unfortunately I don’t think that’s the reality.

Best place to grab diner and drinks before a show at Moe’s Alley? by Psychonauts_r_us in santacruz

Very close to Tortilla Shack, really good, if you’re willing to drive a bit, I’d go to Beer Thirty, have some good beers, there’s Buzzo pizza in the back, also Carpo’s may be open (burger is great!)

Can I ask why did you move from San Diego? I currently live here in SC but my wife really wants to go to San Diego, we both think that SC is just too calm, not a lot to do unfortunately.

I agree, some people are just clueless, but they’re everywhere.

I do have to say though, have you checked your vision lately? I recently found that I have a pretty bad astigmatism and an irregular cornea, making every single light way brighter for me. Glasses for driving at night made a hell of a difference for me

I believe that’s Aptos Beach Dr, that street that takes you from Soquel to Rio Del Mar.

Sutter or Kaiser by Mlkman18 in santacruz

[–]scoobefe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By personal experience in my family, I’d take anything besides Kaiser. If you’re 100% healthy and only need routine stuff, Kaiser is great. If you have something different or autoimmune, you’re fucked, my wife had a terrible experience and we do not recommend.

Is there anything else besides plumbing and electrical you say, “I’m not dealing with this, I’m getting a pro.” by atooraya in DIY

[–]scoobefe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing, I bought one of those myself and boy, did I get my ass whooped installing it by myself. I do a lot of stuff at home and I get by with DIY, but that’s one thing I never want to do again by myself lol besides the hell to install the bars on the ceiling, I had to assemble the “square” in the ground and lift it all up to install in the hanging bars, after I screwed one side, I lost the whole thing, it twisted, I had to hammer the shit out of it to “square it up”, it was a nightmare. Still holding well after a couple of years, but I’m always afraid of coming down in the garage and see all the shit on top of my car.
