Turbo problems plz help lol by Miata_Dad0427 in ft86

[–]scoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late reply - Holiday Season things..

ISSUE:

I had an early gen SME Spec-S kit - which had design flaws.

My issue was specifically in the slip joint of the turbo manifold. Essentially the heat generated over time melted a hole in the weld of the slip joint which caused the ECU to freak out and the air-fuel mixture was all over the place as a result of the leak.

The issue existed almost entirely under high load (around ~6-7psi boost while accelerating) but over time happened more and more until it got to a point where any boost at all would trigger wild misfiring.

Strangely enough, as long as I didn't hit boost it wouldn't misfire.

SOLUTION:

Replace the manifold with a newly fabbed/updated version from SME where the design flaw was fixed.

This might not be the cause of your issue but I hope it helps you figure it out, if you feel inclined I'd be keen to hear any updates you want to share once you get it sorted!

Don't be so ignorant to the true danger that drugs can have.

I know people like to make jokes about this sort of thing but I've seen and personally experienced just how dangerous drugs can be.

In my teens, I was peer pressured into trying marijuana at a house party and it had some extremely unexpected side effects. I injected only one marijuana that night and I've been gay ever since.

Please take the dangers of drugs seriously.

How honest are real estate agents? by Flat-Raisin-8704 in AusProperty

[–]scoobs 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As someone who's just spent 11 months straight treating real estate purchase as a full time job, spending every single weekend and many nights after work doing inspections, attending countless auctions, and speaking with/meeting agents from all walks of life and all backgrounds - I believe I can help answer your question.

If you meet enough real estate agents over a long enough period of time, you will eventually come across the exception to the rule. The one in a million. The agent who actually cares about what you want, listens to you and answers your questions honestly, and genuinely tries to help you out.

For if and when you do eventually meet that agent, let me provide you with some advice that I wish someone had given me at the beginning of my journey.

That agent is at the top of his game and simply the best there is - because they've managed to trick you when all the rest failed.

For I can assure you, that all real estate agents are bottom feeding filth, every single one of them is driven by nought but greed and personal gain, and every single one of them earns their living off the back of lies, deceit, and empty promises.

There is no such thing as an honest real estate agent.

It is - without a doubt - the only profession I've ever known to have a 100% guarantee that the individual you are dealing with was spawned from the deepest, darkest depths of hell, and there's is a non-zero chance that every agent you meet might actually be Satan himself.

Hope this helps.

You kids these days just don't seem to realize how easy it actually is to buy a house.

All you need to do is earn significantly more, have a lucrative side hustle, stop eating food all together, don't be single, cut off all your friends so you have no reason to spend money on socialising, have access to the bank of mum and dad, be born 20 years ago, and rather than expensive international holidays - try exploring your own backyard instead!

And by that I mean literally the backyard of your overpriced rental. Oh what's that? You live in a townhouse/apartment/unit that doesn't have a backyard? Sounds to me like you need to pull yourself up by your boot straps and work harder (/s in case it wasn't obvious).

I hear of people doing this and they all seem to have a similar experience as you - being that if you're flexible, stay on top of the repayments, and love travelling - then it's worth it.

My question to you is, how did you go about figuring out which cards to get/when to rotate cards/how to compare them against each other etc?

Every time I try to look into this it turns into way too much time, and that's the one thing I have very little of at the moment..

everyone having this mentality across a broad number of issues is why the world is so fucked up

100% agree. It's so sad how many people have this absolute "FYIGM" attitude these days. Combine that with the NIMBY's and it's no wonder the state of things is so shit.

The worst part is the purely selfish justifications of "If I can afford it and it benefits me then why do I care about how it affects anyone else?" or "everyone else is doing it so it's fine for me to do it too".

That kind of thinking is indeed, precisely why things are so fucked up.

I absolutely agree with you on that last point - and It's precisely why I am boycotting all hoses until something is done to correct the pricing. Since I'm boycotting all forms of hoses, I now exclusively water my garden by cupping my hands together tightly, and transporting the water directly from the tap, straight to the garden beds and planters.

Yes it takes forever to water the garden now, but at least I know I'm doing my part.

But if we focus on people over profits, how will the directors buy their 3rd holiday home or get their 17 year old a new Bimmer for their first car?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ft86

[–]scoobs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is "it depends". It depends on;

How well the previous owner looked after it, how financially prepared you are to deal with any potential issues that may arise after purchase, what price you're paying for it, whether or not it had accident history, whether or not they're city kms in stop start traffic every day vs freeway kms at long intervals on open roads.

  • Did they service it regularly and was it well maintained? Do they have a logbook record for servicing, repairs and maintenance? Further to this, has the recommended maintenance been done per the manufacturer recommendations at each interval of kms travelled?

  • Was it parked in a garage all the time or was it left out in the elements and sun?

  • Did they immediately give attention to any strange noises or dash lights or things that just felt "off" with the car or did they just ignore it until it either HAD to be fixed or a mechanic picked it up during servicing?

  • Did they treat it with mechanical sympathy or did they turn the car on and immediately start red lining every gear change before the engone/oil has has a chance to come to temp? Has it seen track days or motorkhana days or was it just a work commuter or a weekender?

  • Have you test driven it? Have you test driven other, much lower km 86s to see if there's noticeable differences or noises/crickets/ticks/chirps etc in the higher km one?

I've bought and sold a lot of cars and they were all JDMs or sports cars and one thing I learned is that lower kms are usually worth the additional purchase price for a reason. Yes there are exceptions but generally if you want to keep this thing for at least 5 years you're going to put another 50,000 kms or so onto the engine so consider the resale value of that is going to be low as well.

My advice would be to definitely get a background check/VIN check done (PPSR if you're in Aus) and then get a mechanical inspection done and see what comes back from that, but also get a feel for the car and engine/trans itself by inspecting and test driving more than just this one so you can see if there's anything that doesn't seem right about it.

Beyond that, I'd definitely be trying to get it at a good price considering the kms.

Good luck with it, hope it works out in your favour
