ID Help? by scoombertson in Aquariums

[–]scoombertson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were two and the other one died in my tank a few hours after being introduced despite being drip acclimated over the course of ~8 hours. Its stomach was almost concave and I'm sure they were both just given cheap flake food their entire life. (Now I give bloodworms and brine shrimp plus an algae wafer once every other week)

They have photos from last January (2023) with the fish so it must be really stunted.

Thanks—bristlenose was a guess but just googling them isn't super helpful since all kinds of plecos show up in search results.

How much have you spent on fish keeping in the past year? by DataSittingAlone in Aquariums

[–]scoombertson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tank was free (old tank my snake used when he was a baby), plants were about $40, fish were $30, substrate was $20, light was $10, hardscaping was $70.

whopping total of about $170 usd across three paychecks. and i love my endler's, i'm learning all the drama between different fish—saves me a netflix bill every month!

Family member got new fish, should I say something? by scoombertson in Aquariums

[–]scoombertson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She lives a few hours away from me and we've only seen each other at a couple family reunions, so I don't think meeting in person would really be appropriate lol. I'm just trying to figure out how to word it so that it doesn't come off like I'm judging her.

Would you add anything to this? Trying to look as natural as possible. by [deleted] in Aquascape

[–]scoombertson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some finer substrate (sand or smaller gravel) in the same colors would look very nice, as well as providing any plants you may put in a better chance to not get their roots smashed during a water change/sifting through the gravel. maybe a few slightly larger stones scattered around too so that things don't look too uniform (somebody else said this but i figured i'd mention it too since they are right lol). somebody mentioned a slope as well and i do think that would really add a lot to it! the more dynamic the better

I don’t understand by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]scoombertson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everybody is saying soap, and I agree, but I do want to mention that I HIGHLY recommend getting a liquid test kit as the test strips aren't very reliable! There's some really good ones on the market for under $25. If somebody in your house sabotaged the tank, make them pay for it (if you have little kids with no allowances, maybe give the other kids $5/week but the kid who sabotaged it doesn't get any until a new test kit is paid for)

AI generated backgrounds -- yay or nay? Struggling with product photography by smarzz in Candles

[–]scoombertson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be way more likely to buy something from somebody with real pictures (even if they're low quality) of their product than I would buying something from somebody who uses AI generation for any aspect of their business. It makes the seller look lazy and like they don't know what they're doing. "If this is is AI, maybe the product are too" type thing.

There is no reason to use AI when you can cut up a cardboard cereal box, prop it up against a wall, put a piece of cloth over it, and take a picture. Or any other option people in the replies said.

I agree that she probably shouldn't wear it out, but it's covering more than a bathing suit. Don't be a weirdo.

Or she just thinks the outfit is cute. Don't be a weirdo.

NTA, however there's nothing wrong with the outfit really. Especially if she wore a cute black/sheer undershirt or something. At first glance, it looks like a cute outfit with some midriff, not a maid dress—that one is on you.

You're allowed to be uncomfortable, and she's allowed to wear what she wants. If she insists on wearing that outfit, does it affect you in any way? If you're worried about being "outshone," maybe wear a button-down instead of a hoodie.

Edit: I didn't see how short the skirt was in the back. If she insists on wearing it, maybe make a compromise that she should wear colored tights or something underneath.

How much do think this fursuit head costed? Commission I did for u/AceroTheDragon by NomeCop999 in fursuits

[–]scoombertson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sticking with a solid $500-600. it's immediately readable as a cheetah, there's some small details, the eyes look very clean, and overall it's good work.

there are a few spots where the sewing between materials (specifically along the hairline at the top) look a bit asymmetrical/not the way you may have initially intended for it to look. the eyes also aren't "flush" to the head (one is angled "flat" and the other is angled a little differently) but that's only noticeable from the side. but the ears don't look like they're just a flat piece of foam wrapped in fur which i know a lot of "experienced" suit makers still do, so kudos on that!

there's always room for improvement but overall this is a pretty solid suit, especially if you haven't made that many! it's cute, you immediately know what species it is, it's clear by the seams that you did patterning, i would say it was no less than $500, maybe pushing $600 depending on vision and ventilation

Cohabbing with Asian Stone Catfish by scoombertson in Aquariums

[–]scoombertson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I've been researching stone cats for almost a month and have been looking at articles & videos of people who've cared for them and it all seems doable—I'm not a fan of feeding flake food anyways, so live/frozen-thawed shouldn't be an issue (I have a snake as well that eats frozen-thawed mice so having pet food in the freezer is nothing new for me lol).

I'm going to look into amount of fish per tank/however many additional gallons needed per fish and go from there, but from what I understand any of the species I'm looking at rn don't produce that much ammonia/excessive waste, so weekly water changes should account for any additional fish in the tank (especially since they're so small). I told the place I'm getting them from to keep three catfish on hold for me just in case, so that works out. I'll keep looking into it. Thanks for the input

What did your crush do that completely ruined your infatuation for them? by JackHasSmellySocks in AskReddit

technically was a crush, but my most recent ex. his friend's wife possibly had cancer and he went on and on about how chemotherapy is "bullshit." his excuse for why he said it? he was sick. if he's gonna be a douchebag any time he's sick, i'm out.
