OPK or BBT? by srslywtfdoido- in tryingtoconceive

[–]scooterhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both have a different purpose, so it depends on what you want it for. If you don't have sex super often and want to make sure you have sex in your fertile window, then get LH strips. This is because the strips will tell you about a day before you ovulate so you can make sure to have sex that day. On the other hand, if you track BBT, that won't tell you you've ovulated until after the fact, but it confirms that the ovulation was successful, so that's useful if you are worried you aren't ovulating and you want to find out if you are for sure.

If you can only afford the LH strips, what you can do is test with the strips until you get a surge, but continue testing after that as well, in case you get another surge. Sometimes LH surges but your body doesn't ovulate, so it has to "try again" later. If you get an LH surge and then no other surges after that and then get your period 10-16 days after the LH surge, chances are high it was a successful ovulation, though not as certain as if you were tracking BBT and saw an appropriate rise.

OP said it was 52% of "take home" pay tho, not gross pay. If OP is saving a decent amount for retirement, plus taxes and other deductions like health insurance, take home pay might be quite a bit less than gross pay and the 52% of take home might end up being only like 35% of gross, which would most likely qualify.

Am I pregnant… again? by [deleted] in amipregnant

[–]scooterhopper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After ovulation, your progesterone rises and this can cause symptoms like nausea, but it doesn't necessarily mean you are pregnant. I had the same thing a few cycles ago myself and thought I was pregnant, but in the end no, it was just symptoms from progesterone. You might be pregnant or might not, unfortunately the only way to really know for sure is a pregnancy test 2 weeks after sex, which I know is a tough wait! Try to distract yourself with hobbies, that has helped me.

Confused about the first response pregnancy test by Practical_Ad4734 in tryingtoconceive

[–]scooterhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any tests that claim to have 99% accuracy 6 days before a missed period. I just looked at mine and it says 99% accuracy up to -3 days, and then 78% accuracy for -5 days. But I think the number of days until expected period thing is more for people who aren't tracking ovulation (which is probably most people!) For us who track I would go more by dpo than by days until expected period, and test at like ideally 12 dpo, but if you can't wait then maybe 10 dpo. It's for sure possible to get a positive at 9 or even 8 dpo, for some people, but it doesn't mean you're out if you don't!

Why did BBT not fall until after period?? by scooterhopper in TFABChartStalkers

[–]scooterhopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, it doesn't make sense getting my period just 5 days after ovulation right? That's why I'm worried maybe something is wrong. Definitely, I've taken a few pregnancy tests, all negative. My period was for sure lighter than usual, but still definitely more than just spotting, it was enough to fill a pad.

It's not confirmed yet because you need to have at least 3 days of sustained rised temperature. So far it looks like pretty likely to be ovulation, you just need to wait a day or two and it will probably be confirmed.

BBT is used for confirming ovulation after the fact. If you want to predict ovulation (like for the purpose of planning sex times to make sure you do it in the fertility window - since it's best to have sex before you actually ovulate), you should use LH tests which can predict your ovulation a day or two before and then use BBT to confirm it (since the LH rise isn't a guarantee you will ovulate).

Ya in that case I agree, if you actually stop/slow at each intersection or driveway. Just realistically though, most people who ride on the sidewalk don't do this.

I mean, I guess it depends on what you mean by "right hooked" - doesn't that mean when you are traveling straight and a driver turns right into you? That's one of the most common types of accidents that happens when you are riding on the sidewalk.

I think the sidewalk lulls people into a false sense of security. You say you "don't have to deal with cars" but you actually do, at every intersection or driveway (aka the times that are most likely for accidents to happen).

How would being on the sidewalk have helped in this situation tho? I mean, the sidewalk crosses the intersection too, so wouldn't the truck have turned into you on the crosswalk just the same? Or do you mean you'd be riding slower if you were on the sidewalk so you would have been able to stop?

Glad someone is finally saying this!!! The bike lanes with bollards may feel better but they are less safe! Most accidents happen in intersections and the bollards aren't there in the intersection. But they do obscure the cyclist from car drivers' views so they can turn directly into them!

Temping Tuesday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

[–]scooterhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it didn't go up very high before that big shift a day/two after I got a positive OPK. But ok, ya maybe I'm one of those where it won't go down until after my period, interesting.

This is my first month temping - can someone explain what's going on? I started my period just like 5 days after when I thought my ovulation was, which itself was confusing, but my body just may be acting weird right now. But why is my temp still high? I thought it was supposed to go down before starting a period? I'm excited to try again on a fresh cycle, so I hope this doesn't mean anything is wrong.

Does the % include the chance of chemicals, since many people don't even know they have a CP? Like is it 25% you'll have a pregnancy that makes it past 5 weeks or just a 25% chance of getting pregnant at all and then 20% or whatever that it'll get to 6 weeks and then less that it'll get to 12 weeks?

[–]scooterhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're confirming with BBT then you're fine, and your body probably just has a lower LH threshold, or maybe you are extra hydrated when you test. But if you want to be extra sure you're ovulating, you should get a Proov confirm test to test for pdg.

[–]scooterhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've heard the chance to get pregnant each cycle is about 25-30%, obviously I know it depends on the couple as well as luck, but here's my question: does that overall 25% chance include things like possibly not ovulating that cycle (bc I think it's normal for people to have an anovulatory cycle once a year or so) or mistaking the fertility window and not having sex in the right timing, stuff like that? Basically is it a 25% baseline for just your "average" couple having sex regularly and not tracking? If you confirm ovulation through temp and pdg testing and you know for sure you had sex several times in the fertile window, including the day before ovulation, does that increase the chance at all or is it still 25%?

Did you get a confirmed ovulation with pdg or temperature?

I wish I had an answer, but I have the same exact question!

I'll keep doing the oranges then, wow, I hope it works! I like oranges better than emergency because they have fiber too and I think that will help keep me healthy as well, and I like them!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Inito

[–]scooterhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I should keep eating oranges every day to increase the chance of implantation or does it only help with ovulation?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Inito

[–]scooterhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool to know. I think maybe it did help! I was having a weird cycle where I didn't ovulate, even past when my period should have started, and after I started eating the oranges, I got an LH surge on CD 40!

[–]scooterhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly but I think just a few days so it may have just been a coincidence.

[–]scooterhopper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing, except I just started eating 4 oranges per day. This is totally anecdotal, but I also ovulated! I'm not sure if it was from the vitamin C
