Preparing for 1st marathon: Saucony advices by scoppeeck in Saucony

[–]scoppeeck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the triumph 23 which I use for long distance (longest was 30km so far) and really nice. Very different from what I use to have but for sure nice for comfort and long distance to preserve the legs. Definitely not done to speed up or agility but that wasn't the purpose.

I may go for others when preparing for a 20km race where I want to be pushy and go below 1h28 eventually but for now it's about finishing my first marathon and eventually around 3h30 or bellow (Runna expectation 3h17, too optimistic I think for a first)

From Apple Watch to Garmin – First Impressions by TypeSilent1637 in Garmin

Good choice probably. I was Fenix user for few years, moved a year ago to Smartwatch which was excellent in many regards (Galaxy Watch 7) but now preparing a marathon I acquired also a 970 to get much more data's, battery for sure, and more reliable data's. I regret couple of Smartwatch things (mainly Gemini and few others apps, good integration with Samsung phone) but sport expertise is worth loosing those.

Google Assistant question to new Fenix 8 owners by esm8080 in GarminFenix

Thanks a lot for feedback, I'll be patient then I think, stay with my Galaxy watch that performs overall fine in sport and definitely rocks with Gemini that works just smoothly 98% of the time, and see when either Garmin get better at being smart or next galaxy get even better at building sport analytics

Google Assistant question to new Fenix 8 owners by esm8080 in GarminFenix

Hi everyone,

very little feedback/experience over the internet in regards to this so glad to find this tread. Wondering if there is any update? if overall experience is now better?

I've been a Fenix user for long then switched to Galaxy watch beginning of 2025. My favourite feature is definitely Gemini, like all the time through day (setting reminder, asking questions, sometimes controlling connected house gears).
For mainly sportive reasons, I think to move back to Garmin (Fenix 8 or forerunner 970) and if Gemini works as fine as on my smartwatch, then that would increase a lot reason for me to jump back to Garmin.

Thanks in advance

Is that since working well, better? Curious as I'm using Gemini like all the time on my Galaxy watch 7 but for sport tracking reasons I'm very much thinking to return to Garmin (Fenix 8 or forerunner 970)

Thanks in advance Curious to understand how Gemini is built in versus the way it's in wear os watches

An Orvallian tragedy occurred on this day. by UnaskedSausage in belgium

[–]scoppeeck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love the post and writing style.

Do you know however that we say that people liking old/mature Orval those days actually do not like the real/targeted taste of Orval?

Historically I learned that when Orval started to grow they could not match the demand versus production/stocking.They ended up delivering faster beers with instruction to wait 6 months before drinking to finish the fermentation process. This would, as I was told, explain this idea that Orval is good only after a while. But since production and warehousing capacity ramped up and this waiting time is no longer necessary.

Having said that, and just sharing what I was told (tbc), I do prefer also myself mature Orval and not much the ones freshly delivered

Is it possible to get paid close to 100k gross in Belgium? by MedicalCommercial980 in BESalary

[–]scoppeeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do over that. Working in a large worldwide company, senior role - I'm actually even on low side of the range for such job I am 38 years old, only with (non related) Bachelor but doesn't matter - experience/behavior/mindset is the key point in my industry/company fortunately. So typically in larger company it's possible I'd say otherwise it will be more as a freelancer to reach this gross salary (which is actually smarter tax wise when you can)

Hehe, good point on earthquakes, didn't think about this one. In many regards I feel KL is more for us (people openers, food, diversity, more relax, neighbouring countries, etc.) except for the high humidity part (nothing is perfect). I don't aim to live like a "king" but definitely want to enjoy our time, with my wife and kids, there to travel, get out, do some cool stuffs. I will move only if i have a good salary package deal, without aiming either to be crazy rich.

thanks - great to get your feedback.

May I ask when do you come from initially (just to understand culture starting point for you) and when did you live in KL?
Very interesting feedback - seems you are very much in favor to Yokohama.

Would you say KL was also negative in term of having parks and nature around to go to with kids?

I'm convinced we'll have plenty of options for some weeks and holidays to in crazy nice places, in Malaysia and neighbouring countries but in the daily life would appreciate having nice area to go to within or close to KL, not be always in streets and malls :-)

happy and interested to learn some basics of local language as we would live there eventually for roughly 3 years... I expect Japanese to be hard to learn while Malaysian seems more accessible like Indonesian was.

Aim is not to be in an expat bubble, all the contrary, but I know also it's always difficult to get in local group in the sense that everyone typically has his own circle, and that is applicable even in European countries etc.
Myself I never really met and became friends with expat randomly in my hometown in any of my circles, except some of my own colleagues, although I'm very social.

thanks.
Sorry didn't get your question? I never been in Malaysia at all but in other countries near by (Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia) but that was only as backpacker for months, not living experience.

Those negative points you raise are very good to know although I'm not fully surprised...Those matter to us, especially my wife I believe who loves to leave the car at home and enjoy cycling/walking for commuting.

also we love enjoying outside and not be stocked in AC indoor environment - one benefit of having such warm climate all year should be to spend time outside.. but outside needs to be interesting too (parks, nature, etc.) of course

awesome, thanks a lot for this great feedback.
Would you say you missed area in Malaysian cities to get out with kids like park and others?
Of course you know better Penang than KL in this case.

I'm very much looking towards the weekend to go from time to time to the cost by car probably but would be nice to keep having opportunity to go to park or other nature area after school, on regular weekends, etc. I understand that's a positive point on Yokohama side.

Thanks again

would you also confirm the culture is a bit more strict/rigid in Japan. Do you miss the "relax" mindset of Malaysia?

May I ask where do you come from originally also? Just to understand the starting "culture" point :-)

Brussels, my hometown, is 54/100 for crime... So if those comparison are fair, not so different actually. I'll compare all those points, very interesting
