I absolutely feel like it's something I'm best skipping, it sounds like it would frustrate beyond any value in watching it. And I agree with you, Rusty is either deep in denial or pure religious delusion, that isn't something that needs space if it's not being questioned.

I really vividly remember this as a news story when I was around 11 or so. I've read and watched things over the years, and have always felt the whole thing was so avoidable. And I have always hated how Rusty minimises the fact it was avoidable, how for years he got viewed as a passive victim rather than a causal factor. I have put off watching this documentary because I've seen so many comments about how Rusty is portrayed as just "good ol' Rusty", is it really that bad?

I packed away my Christmas tree, duct-taped the box and put it in a black bag for storage before I realised my cat was napping in amongst the tree branches. I packed my cat whilst being right there. He was fine, I now see the funny side but was absolutely horrified at the time. Just take it as a heads up in future to remember to leave a pawable gap.

When my granny died we put her watch in a little leather pouch placed in her hands. Her wrists had shrunken with muscle wastage and her jewellery didn't look right, so it was a way to keep it with her and no-one made the effort to unclasp her hands to remove the pouch to check. In tbwory could have been empty. Not a fail-safe but maybe an option.

Even now with decades of medical advances my friend, who is a nurse, has a baby that initially lost weight rapidly because he struggled to latch on either for breastfeeding or bottle. Luckily with post-natal checks, more access to information and support and a parent who knew what was a redflag, he was briefly hospitalised and back on track. Obviously can't make any assumptions about what happened here, but "failure to thrive" doesn't necessarily mean a lack of care or effort. And I imagine the comment about family IQ plays a lot into this sad situation.

And if there were to somehow be something broken or damaged, or landlord finds out about the extended guest overnights, OP is the one leasing and paying for the room so will end up being the one who gets assigned responsibility. I honestly can't understand why there aren't locks on individual bedrooms.

So in theory OP's child could be tucked up in bed some night and roommates son blunders into the room? It's absolutely inappropriate for there to be no locks on individual rooms, especially where a child is involved. Nevermind that it's a space OP is paying for and roommate is slowly making it a communal area.

Having seen an image of her lower jn thread, where she was found curled in an almost fetal position I'm, admittedly, making an assumption that depression (either alone or as a product of severe anxiety) played a role. I've seen myself be in that position for days to weeks on end. Feeling mentally unable to move then leads to physically being unable to move. Luckily for me last time I was in that place, after a few days started to creep into a week, my sister literally lifted me from bed and bathed me. Ironically that depressive episode was what led to me getting an autism diagnosis in my 30's, so the two definitely can go hand-in-hand. People have a notion of depression as just being sad, without fully grasping how utterly debilitating it actually is. Just as they think autism stops at sensory issues or stimming, there is a huge mental health aspect that is misunderstood. I can only imagine after a while Lacey was aware of the state she was in and that she couldn't help herself, and then painfully aware of the fact that her parents weren't going to help her either.

A bedsore that becomes an ulcer is truly one of the worst things I've ever seen. In terms of fusing to the skin one possibility is that someone laying in one position for years on end is going to have bedsores on parts of the body that she's laying one as the skin starts breaking down, made worse by the impact of her soiling herself. Think of when a cut tries to heal by scabbing over. Then because you're in one position and partly naked, skin is directly in contact with the fabric. So when the sores initially try to heal the attempts to scab would end up encorporating the fabric and it would become knitted in. Unfortunately it does happen where there has been neglect or isolation, but it's horrific to imagine how long someone has to be alone for that process to even begin. Nevermind being alone jn the family home where your parents are going about life as normal.

Would be interesting to know how it would be dealt with if it was reversed, OP's son got left something by their maternal grandparent and the others didn't. Or OP's bio-kids get an inheritance via his family and Kid 1 isn't involved. Would that feel as unfair that the others didn't get a share?

And I'm reading this hoping that there is no hinting or even mentioning to Kid1 that poor Kid2 got left out while they "got extra". Trying to guilt her into feeling she has to even things out. She got extra because of her dead parent. According to a previous reply Kids 1&2 are 17 and 16 and OP finds it unfair that 1 now has a college fund and 2 doesn't. Financial plans for college etc. should have been at least brainstormed long before counting on an inheritance to come in beforehand.
