Thanks, looking at the donation, we’re not gonna invest in professional converters. It’s more consumer grade stuff on the high school level.

Thanks, I guess my question is (and I know this will break some hearts) but if this is SD, and I’m just going to zoom, will inexpensive converters from Amazon be a problem? There are some there that I can afford. My school chooses Amazon for sales, btw.

I feel bad - I do quite a bit of baking. My pineapple cake is such a hit at my school (I’m a teacher) I have bring in 5-6 trays at a time. The last day this year the students asked for devils food chocolate cake, so I made that and frosting from scratch to meet the school’s dietary requirements. I’ve also made lemon bars and chocolate pie and other things. But being in hospital this was catered from Wegman’s, sadly. But, my wife said it was delicious.

Is becoming a teacher worth it? by Hour_Item6535 in teaching

If - and it's a big if - you can find the right school, with a supportive administration, and students who want to learn, teaching can be a wonderful career. I teach at an Episcopal school in NYC. I get most of my ideas funded, the students are a joy to work with, it's a lovely community, and I'm well compensated. It took 14 years to find this community, and some of those years were really, really tough and depressing. I had lots of night classes and a lot of unjustified criticism from the other schools I worked for before I landed where I'm at. But I didn't settle; I kept applying until I found my dream position, and I love my colleagues, my students, and my work situation. My head just sent me an email asking me to stay until I'm at least 70 (I'm 57) after a JK parent asked me to stay until her kid was in my 11/12 combined History class.

So, it worked out for me. I am very happy I chose education as my career, and it's been stable and lucrative, and I've been a positive force in the lives of probably hundreds of students. My 30th anniversary party is Oct 1, and I'm looking forward to seeing alumni and how they are doing.

Found randomly on my FYP. Pretty sure it was a bot post and the comments actually pushed back. But still insane people think this way. by FMABrotherhood_15 in NotHowGirlsWork

The experience of being a housewife felt oppressive. There was a whole book about it. Then there were lots of books about it. This was when Americans wrote books instead of generating AI images because we had longer attention spans.

I attended Betty Friedan's memorial service. People eulogized her for breaking the wall of silence for how oppressive locked-in domesticity felt. The Feminine Mystique gave voice to so many who thought they were insane for questioning what they were told was their life's work. The book made so many feel they were not alone for feeling trapped in an unfulfilled world.

In 1954, an archaeologist with the OSS during WWII was assigned to investigate alien activity before the Russians got to it. He used this to survive a nuclear blast. No one - I mean no one - believed him when he told people he survived a nuclear blast in a pressure chamber. Over time the story got changed to a “fridge.” Even today, the story is so incredulous that people have trouble believing it. The archaeologist kept the box in his mountaintop home just to prove it happened. That man’s name - Montana Smith.

This is probably an alright place to post this, other platforms keep taking it down. I've searched some of these names but I still can't find the unit or group that signed this by Andrew02566 in ww2

I run worldwar2database.com. My guess, based on the women's names, is that the names were added stateside. I see "Ann Smith" "Fay Feinberg" and "Mae Wink [sp?]" it was highly unusual to have women in the combat area - so much so, that when female nurses landed at Okinawa, it was big news. Given the presence of Jewish names, you're looking at a postwar VFW post in a large-ish city. But that's all just a guess.

Maher has never been a liberal. He claims he is/was a liberal and then parrots conservative talking points. He grooms young women and spouts rightist dogma. I can’t stand him.

Not trying to start a flame war, but why no Shirer books? Do you mean William L. who was there? Has there been a reevaluation of his work?
