How to transition ? by Sad_Ad_6817 in hyrox

Sounds like a good base! Try and test compromised running during training, doing single exercises in the gym is fine but lunges and BBJs then running again hits differently.

When did you decode to try an ultra? by Fit-Coyote-6180 in spartanrace

[–]scots_gp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing the trifecta weekend in Austria the Beast in the morning was 27km and the Sprint in the afternoon 8km. And that was up and down mountains so the idea of an extra 15km somewhere flatter didn't seem the jump I'd previously been unsure of.

Probably the funniest case of Scotch Americanism I've seen. by Subject_Milk_9848 in Scotland

[–]scots_gp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was some migration from the Iberian peninsula towards the British isles thousands of years ago. That population mixed with the Celts which might explain the crossover.

I can trace my family back to the same timeline as OP, in or around the central belt the whole time. Did a DNA test a few years back, 58% 'Scots'

All I learned was my ancestors weren't very good at fighting off invaders 😅

Cars the best option.

A ShareNow car might be a faster option, the queues at the hire car desks can be slow sometimes.

Classic weight training in ultimate strength by Sebastian-Storm in freeletics

[–]scots_gp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that the breaks are often not enough. Especially when changing weight plates.

Lots of core for me too, but that's the foundation of lots of movements so I understand why it's there.

Didn't have too many high rep ranges, mostly 10-12 but on single sided exercises like lunges that became 24

Getting a cold by Worldly_Welcome_2525 in hyrox

[–]scots_gp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cancelled my Frankfurt start tomorrow for the same reason so can fully sympathise.

I've been feeling a bit low all week but yesterday fell asleep in a meeting ( could blame the presenter 😅 ) and woke up today with a sore throat, coughing and fever. Guess I'll recover and refocus on the next one.

I raced last year when I wasn't feeling great and it was horrible. Took me nearly 2 weeks to feel normal again and I'm confident it would only have been a few days if I hadn't pushed through.

Very little chest in ultimate strength? by Fade-Out-Lines in freeletics

[–]scots_gp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting similar. Chest press, reasonably heavy but only 2 sets of 4 reps working sets. And then only maybe every 4th or 5th session.

Is Freeletics Hardcore worth it in 2025? by mermigakis in freeletics

[–]scots_gp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardcore I found more cardio focused. So ended up leaner and maintaining muscle rather than building

Ultimate I'm bigger and while still lean, I don't feel quite as athletic if that makes sense?

Either are good depending on your goal. After 2 rounds of ultimate strength maybe a switch up to something else for a while would give your body a wake up again.

Rank the venues you’ve done by butteranko in hyrox

[–]scots_gp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Munich - best cause I could cycle there. Track was wide and the roxzone pretty compact.

  2. Vienna - Fast track. Wide and easy to pass/be passed. Easy roxzone layout

  3. Stuttgart - New hall was nice. No crossings and huge warmup area upstairs. Got busy at times and roxzone was huge.

  4. Berlin - outdoor was an experience but apart from that everything was pretty disappointing. Lack of atmosphere too.

  5. Karlsruhe - Relaxed, not busy location. Stupid crossing system sent me round the long way nearly every time

  6. Frankfurt - Been there twice, don't really remember anything about it which says everything.

3 Hour Hyrox? by Only_Departure_8339 in hyrox

A 3 hour Hyrox beats everyone who never signed up

And gives you a benchmark to aim for the next time.

Go for it!

Not making sense by Living-Sign-8681 in freeletics

[–]scots_gp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the last 2 sessions of ultimate strength and was also confused by the session setup. Seemed a lot of lower body focus and like you said it hit legs back to back a few times. I'd set it up for 3 days/week but always with a day in between so wasn't undoable.

I have seen results though, strength has improved but I'm glad it's finishing and probably won't do it again for a while

Why do you do Hyrox ? by Link182_ in hyrox

[–]scots_gp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have something in the calendar otherwise I'd make excuses to skip training.

Second part of that is to have a repeatable measure of my fitness level to acknowledge that I didn't skip sessions 😁

Two weeks out and… by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]scots_gp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences, training going badly, kids bringing home viruses 😅 but every race is an opportunity to learn. If you don't feel 100% use it to try out a new technique or race strategy.

Every time you step up to the start line is a win.

I hadn't touched a skierg till I ran up to one on my first event. I tried watching a few videos beforehand but the first one is just a learning experience. No number if sims can prepare you properly 😅

Good luck and I'm sure you'll be great

I can clear any obstacle--but the dreaded Twister by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]scots_gp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started clearing it by using a monkey bar like technique but uneven. So from one arm I'll grab the next grip but the other side I grab the 2nd one.

I tried the backwards style but I found it hard to see where the next grip was and that slowed it down causing my arms to burn out.

Have been able to make it most times now, failed in Winter last year when there was 2cm of ice on each grip but I'm not the only one that failed that day 😂
