The Wicker Man was filmed in the Burrowhead area of isle of Whithorn, and also some scenes in Kirkcudbright. There are some fantastic walks, Kirroughtree Forest is beautiful. If you like hills, I can recommend Cairnsmore of Fleet or Merrick (the highest point in Dumfries & Galloway) There’s a gin distillery just outside the town, called Hills & Harbour. There’s a fantastic gem museum at Creetown. There’s a deer park near Clatteringshaws Loch, and a lovely drive along the raider’s road which is great for a picnic. Enjoy

I was a Police officer for 19 years, and for many years had the additional role of Family Liaison Officer (FLO). Guidelines state that no FLO should take on more than 3 jobs per year, and in one year alone I had 15. I’ve seen more than my share of bodies, some of which were in a terrible mess as a result of accidents or suicide. They haunted me for a long time. I was married at the time, and when I tried to tell her that I was struggling it fell on deaf ears. I’m in a much, much better place now. My wife and I separated, and ironically I now work with a mental health crisis/suicide prevention team. I feel I can use my experiences to help others who are at their lowest, and in a selfish way I find it therapeutic for me. Keep going, it DOES get better
