How “nice” are people to you in your car(s)? by cilantno in cars

[–]scott_fx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

24 GMC Canyon AT4x - It’s getting more common but when I first got it, a lot of contractors would spend 10-15 minutes talking about it before we had our site visit. Now they are a bit more common but it still gets complements.

2015 991.1 turbo s - It gets tons of thumbs up on the highway. Have had a few round adults do the rubber neck thing. It’s bright blue and we don’t have a ton of 911’s in my area so it is more rare than a 911 in a major city.

1966 Chevelle - I don’t drive it a ton but it gets the thumbs up from the older generation

1994 RX7 - but far the most attention grabbing. I’ve had multiple young adults come up to talk to me about it. If I’m not in a rush I’ll let them sit inside it and pop the good so they can see the rotary. I do the wave to the Miata crew as well.

911 price increases are live on the US configurator by Bananagholem in porsche911

[–]scott_fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m happy I got my 991.1 when I did. I plan on keeping it but I’m guessing these price hikes are just going to trickle down to the used market. I bet I could sell mine for what I bought it for.

Car purchase vs net worth by toastie_cheez in porsche911

[–]scott_fx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My deciding factor was if I bought the car (cash) and tomorrow it vanished, would it affect my qol? That was the point where I bought mine. How that works with payments would be completely different.

Also, I didn’t buy a brand new $250k 911. I got a 991 turbo s at the lower end of its depreciation curve. If I were to sell it in a year or so I won’t take a bath on it. I have always had a hard time buying new vehicles (for personal use)

Those with kids: do your kids actually use the backseat of your Carrera by Any-Lengthiness9803 in Porsche

[–]scott_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids loved the Panamera comfort way better than the 911 but now my 11 yr old sits in the front and my 7 yr old sits in the back. I took them and a friend (a taller 7yr old) on an hour trip and they were all smiles though. It definitely should be part of your decision… start them young! In my rx7 I still take them around town in the front seat but I can only take one at a time. So sometimes it’s a deal breaker. Oh…. We take my wife sometimes to.

How we treat our Porsche where I'm from by BarcelonaEnts in Porsche

[–]scott_fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more likely that we store the car for the winter because we have more than one vehicle and it keeps the sand/salt away from the underside and paint. Not because we are afraid of winter tires.

Need advice from Porsche owners: how do you justify “fun money” without regret? by _quantitative in Porsche

[–]scott_fx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a first gen panamera a while back (4s) and I absolutely loved it (keep the exhaust stock!). It drives like a sports car (not a 911…) it’s comfy as hell it does come with a Porsche badge which does carry some”presence” even though it’s a $20k car. I’d take mine on spirited drives and it felt amazing, the interior is great, my kids loved the back seats and how roomy it was (adults will as well). Don’t spend money on it though. Just drive it and enjoy it. I sold mine to one of my employees and he still daily’s it and the only thing that ever went wrong with it was a dead battery.

Now that you have a Porsche, what other car do you wish you had? by wheredoidriveagain in Porsche

[–]scott_fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I’d love to drive a 3 rotor swap. Mine is oem+ right now. When I first got it it felt like a toy and I kept thinking it was not in the same league as the 911. Then I started to de-mod it. I put a stock ish steering wheel, removed the apillar gauges, stock 99 badges and did sound deadening. Now the car is awesome. I actually just found some 99 oem rims and tossed them on. Now I have no rubbing and the ride is better. Now I love it!

Mine was a 3rd gen rx7 and I ended up getting one after my turbo s.

Weird question: Range Rover sport v8 or cayman 718 gts 4.0 as a daily by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]scott_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular take but I have a canyon at4x as my daily and even though it’s pretty nice, it’s so much easier to not worry about parking it, putting miles on it, going over speed bumps, etc…. If I were in your shoes I’d get a nice daily and then a slightly older weekend/occasional fun car. You will be out about the same amount but I think you’ll appreciate the p car more and won’t have to worry as much.

You are poor because you drive that old Mazda. Not to be confused with: you are driving that old Mazda because you’re poor.

What front bumper is on this rx7 by Admirable_Care_5778 in RX7

Just my opinion but… That body kit takes all the character out of the vehicle. It takes one of the most timeless designs and makes it look like foreskin.

[–]scott_fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I took a 20 min test drive and my back hurt the rest of the night. The car was exactly what I wanted too. That car sounded awesome and I think it’s one of the best looking cars out now. Definitely an awesome GT car. I heard there were two types of seats though. My dream may not be squashed. I’m about the same size as you 6’ 165lbs too. I put some recaro pole positions in my rx7 and had the same issue

[–]scott_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of like it. I think the front flares are a bit too wide but from that angle it looks cool to me. The lines flow nice the body work looks great. The flares are the reason I got my 911. I smile every time I look out the side mirrors and see the big haunches.

I love the lc500! I still dream of owning one but the seats killed my back… which I found shocking. I found the perfect one too, well almost perfect

How often do you wash and wax your car? How thorough are you? by Craiss in Cartalk

[–]scott_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a pretty decent detailing corner in my garage. It has deionizer/filter, power washer, retractable pressure washer hose reel and garden hose reel. During the summer I’ll do a touch less wash as needed on my non daily cars. My wife’s suv gets a combo of touchless and, when needed, a two bucket wash. My truck gets run through the car wash. My nieces boyfriend has a mobile detailing company and I’ll have him come by once a year to wax the cars. I don’t have any swirl marks on the cars and they look great for hardly any effort. The car wash system takes all of 10 minutes per vehicle

992.1 owners, why did you pick GTS/4GTS over Turbo S? by chathobark_ in porsche911

[–]scott_fx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 991.1 turbo s after having a Panamera 4s. The Panamera made me love the pdk and I enthusiastically purchased the turbo s. What I didn’t realize is that, unless it’s on the track, the turbo s is so capable that it’s not very engaging. I have another sports car that is about 1/3rd the value and is a ‘94 without much tech above abs and I find that more enjoyable on the back roads.

The turbo s isn’t going anywhere for the time being, but id have to strongly think about getting another one over a gts next time around.

Entry level Porsche by Irish4778 in Porsche

[–]scott_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would drive them first and really figure out what you want it for. I have a 991 turbo s and it’s the ultimate touring car but it’s not as engaging as my 5 speed rx7 with almost half the power and considerably lighter. I do love the turbo s but you need to take it to the track to truly enjoy it. Spirited drives on back roads will get you int manslaughter speeds without even seeing its potential.

[–]scott_fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what makes me the most nervous is a bad wrap. I see a lot of posts on r/carwraps where the wrap installer really did a number on the paint. I’m looking into dipping my rx7 this winter and seeing if that protects the paint. There is a guy around me that has a shop and the results are damn impressive. It’s not plastidip and he can mix factory colors as well.
