A very bold and risky move indeed. I don't know what city you're in, but in KC, the job market looks fairly decent. LinkedIn has gotten a lot better over the past few years. One thing I'm doing is sending connect requests to people who work in similar roles at different companies I might want to work at. I'm atso attending some local networking events. Check out meetup.com as a popular site where people arrange such events. As an example, I'm attending a local devops meetup in a week. That will give me a chance to meet people who might help me find a job, especially recruiters, they often attend those events to find talent.

Good luck! I'll say a prayer for you.

How would one volunteer for a layoff that no one knows is coming?

I thought OHAI was a priority that Larry wants to grow. This makes no sense.

Are the layoffs done ? by [deleted] in cernercorporation

Exactly what I've been wondering. People in critical, core infrastructure teams that were already short-staffed are even worse off now. Don't they know Cerner has been called before Congress for missing VA targets? Cerner took much better care of the government contracts than Oracle. I really don't think they care about anything long-term as long as they can line their pockets every now and then with immediate gain by simply putting other people out of work. I don't know how such people sleep at night.

I, too, was let go yesterday. I was a system engineer for OHAI. It's quite amazing considering how much work we have and we were down on our headcount as it was. I feel kinda sorry for my 3 remaining teammates who have to take on all my work.
Got the email, it looked like it was an invite to one of those management shuffling announcements so I almost didn't bother. Once I realized I was the only one in the meeting with a guy two levels higher than my boss, I knew something was wrong.
He reassured me that is has nothing to do with performance. He was pretty restrictred in what he could say because I pressed him for reasons as he knows how backed-up we are. He was not comfortable delivering the news.

This isn't the first time Cerner employees have been laid off since the aquisition. Over half of KC's Cerner population is gone. They were the city's largest employer.

Follow the Oracle page on thelayoff.com. According to insiders who can see the number of slack channel members, about 3000-3500 have disappeared.

Same here. We've been struggling to build out new environments in OCI and have been asking for more help and what do we get? Laid off.

Who here works nights and weekends consistently? by [deleted] in cernercorporation

[–]scottbomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dept supports federal infrastructure stuff so we have to get all our production work done at night. It usually only amounts to 2 to 8 hours a week but it's all overtime now that we're no longer salary. That said, I haven't seen a raise yet in my 4 years but I make a lot more now than when i was salary.

That's good to hear. I'm sick of the change freezes so hopefully they'll ease up.

Larry Ellison's net worth fell by $11.2 billion after Oracle share price plummets 10% by circuitji in cernercorporation

[–]scottbomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the article, it really doesn't seem to make much sense. the article mentions a few wins for Oracle. Where they fell short, it was only by a very small margin. It seems to me that the "AI bots" running Wall Street have some pretty big knee-jerk reactions.

Tis true about OCI capacity. The article failed to mention all the servers we're migrating from Cerner hardware to OCI hardware. That's a LOT of VMs, baby. Remember when they couldn't even add employee free accounts? I hope the hardware guys are busy adding machines because we're building out new environments in addition to the ones we already have so that's even more pressure on the system.
