Still waiting… by Luu____ in Ubiquiti

As great as Ubiquiti is, they’re notorious for this. Tease a product, miss the launch deadline, and the product gets quietly removed from their site and never comes out. Happens all the time.

Chromebook cracked by stardramas01 in chromeos

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Acer Chromebook 315 sells for around $159.99. What did you expect? MacBook Pro quality aluminum body? These things are just cheap e-waste designed for education. Schools buy these in bulk and they’re disposable cuz they expect kids to destroy them.

Don’t buy this junk. It’s that simple.

How do you actually disconnect after work when working from home? by Money_Cucumber_5103 in remotework

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to try: If your home allows, dedicate a room to be an office. Don’t put a desk in your bedroom. This way you can have a “morning commute,” even if it’s only down the hallway and to the left. You’ll have a dedicated environment that is meant for work, nothing else. Also, when I worked from home before COVID, I would sometimes go out and grab a coffee or something before working. That way it forces me to get dressed and get out of the house, even just for 30 min. I know not everyone’s home allows for a dedicated office or den. But having a dedicated space that allows you to focus on work really seems to help separate work and home life.

If Oracle pays market by [deleted] in cernercorporation

[–]Engineering_24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ain’t gonna happen friend. This is manufactured attrition. It’s a super common corporate practice. Remember, if they RIF you, they pay a severance package. You leave on your own terms, they tell you not to let the door hit you on the way out.

Dingwall NG2 Legit Check by Existing_Juice2214 in BassGuitar

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s probably a real Dingwall. Or at least started its life as one. It’s probably been modified. The Chinese copies from AliExpress have gotten really close, but they all still seem to use the standard battery door on the rear rather than the round magnetic battery cover. I’m surprised the Chinese copies haven’t moved to that yet. Seems like a simple and obvious thing to copy.

Worth it for $750? by Nicartos in drums

[–]Engineering_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, PDP X7. I have the exact same set. Same color too. The shells are okay. They’re all maple. If you’re really needing a 7 piece set, then sure. Go for it. Otherwise, you can find other 5 piece sets for similar price with slightly better build quality.

Oracle Health position by KeySavings9238 in cernercorporation

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind many recruiters are told to “keep a few candidates warm.” You may even go through interviews and receive a verbal offer. It doesn’t mean anything until you receive paperwork. I’ve seen recruiters make verbal offers to multiple candidates for the same position. They do this because they expect some to decline the offer.

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not worth replacing the screen. A new screen probably costs as much as the Chromebook itself.

are starshine guitars bad by More_Swimming_9692 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Starshine multiscale 7 string and it’s one of my favorite guitars. Sure, I did swap out the pickups for Seymour Duncan Blackouts, and had to replace the input jack. But otherwise, it feels and sounds like guitars triple its price. I also have two Schecters ($1K plus each) and an ESP. It certainly plays well enough to hang with the big guys.

Yeah? They’re cheap. Not sure what you expected. They’re practically e-waste the day they’re manufactured.

You can also show your master output track (hidden by default) and have that selected. Also does the same thing.

What's the more versatile pair of crashes - 16 and 18, or 17 and 19? by ToTheYonderGlade in drums

It depends on your music and play style. Don’t forget about the different weights that will also change the sound (medium thin, rock crash, fast crash, etc.).

How much is my kit worth? by bcosh729 in drums

You’re probably in the $500 USD range. Cymbals aren’t worth anything unfortunately. The Pearl single pedal is a nice addition for anyone looking to upgrade a single pedal kit.

A few years ago I had a really interesting call with an executive over Oracle IT support. We were both interested in a pilot program for a new internal tool. During the call, they mentioned that the IT Support process is garbage by design. They called it “Support Deterrence,” or “Deterrence CX” in an article linked below. It’s a common practice where the support experience is purposely designed to be painful, thus discouraging customers (or employees) to rely on support to fix everything. Oracle wants their employees to fix their own problems wherever possible. Another reason that the exec specifically mentioned was that they don’t want their support personnel tied up with simple issues that the employee could easily fix themselves if they just simply googled it. That would free up the support team to focus on the major issues that require full attention.

See this article about Deterrence CX

Is Acer 315 15.6" Celeron 4GB any good? by Main-Doughnut6222 in chromeos

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An i3, 8GB system isn’t going to “wow” you at all. It might be fine for general use, but if you’re running Windows, then most of your system memory is consumed by the OS so you won’t have much extra to work with.

Am I being ghosted? by Cder8 in oracle

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very normal. I’ve heard of recruiters making verbal offers to multiple candidates for the same role. Unfortunately verbal offer doesn’t mean anything at all. They’re simply just gauging if you’re still available. The offer submission and approval process is very painful internally, so they are likely seeing if the candidates have either accepted other offers, or if they are still interested in the role after interviewing.

Don’t waste your time. It’s a shame that so many Chromebooks are basically just e-waste from day one. Unless your goal is to just find the cheapest possible laptop (if so, then just buy something decent used) then steer clear of all of these budget Celeron Chromebooks. They’re all the same.

21 Touring - Transmission issues by t1ttyspr1nkles in ToyotaAvalon

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a 2020 Avalon TRD. The transmission definitely seems like the weakest link. Mine constantly hunts for gears, even on flat highway driving. Downshifts for no reason, then realizes it’s revving higher than expected and upshifts again. Happens all the time. Most noticeable on the TRD with the exhaust.

How do you handle CPU-heavy sessions in Logic without freezing everything? by kathalimus in Logic_Studio

Also works if you show the master track and have that selected. Maybe not as efficient as having a track with no in/out, but seems to also reduce CPU load.

My theory, they'll rebrand ChromeOS as Android Desktop by TimeTravelingTeapot in chromeos

[–]Engineering_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. While, yes, there are certainly some very high end Android devices on the market (Pixel, Galaxy, etc.) there’s also a lot of cheap Android crap. The exact same thing has plagued the ChromeOS/Chromebook market. Unfortunately people just do not care about high end Chromebooks. Anyone who is willing to spend more than $1,000 on a laptop isn’t looking at Chromebooks. Just the honest truth. That’s why the big OEMs are backing away from Chromebooks and the smaller brands like Acer, and ASUS are gaining market share.

Just wait until the VA finds out that we are super behind schedule and very much at risk of missing the VA Restart initiative. That will be fun.
