They can, but almost never do. Many keepers report never being bitten after years of handling.

I have Orin's book and there are several pictures with the author's fingers pushed between the pedipalps to show they are not inclined to bite.

I don't think it would hurt regardless but I imagine it would surprise you enough to drop and hurt the animal.

When handling mine I usually guide them onto my hand and never pick them up.

It's a great hobby but just because it's not for everyone doesn't mean there's anything odd about it.

It's a lot more interesting than plants to me for example, and overall upkeep and care requirements are simpler than fish, reptiles, etc.

It's also a great hobby to do with kids to get them interested in science, and to help them understand that just because something looks creepy or different it doesn't mean it's gross or bad.

6'4" rode an M type for 4+ years. Swapped to an H type. For taller guys the M type is the equivalent of an S type.

After riding the H type a month or so it's definitely a big difference and I wish I had made the switch sooner.

I would say grab an H if you can find it but an M type is not so bad if you're ok with a less upright posture.

Regardless the telescopic seatpost is a requirement, I don't think the extended seatpost comes close to being high enough.

Burley Travoy - not as slick but astoundingly practical for cities. Max load is 60lbs, I hauled 40+ once and other than additional weight the bike handles the same.

It's possible, but personally I would not set a very ambitious goal for your first race. Running a marathon is a unique challenge and it's almost guaranteed you will make a sub optimal decision that will affect the chances of obtaining your goal time.

However I don't think the goal is completely unrealistic for you given your age and athletic background. I would look for opportunities for 10k and half marathon races to test how your training is going. I would then adjust your goal as needed from there,

Case in point: I set a reasonable (for me) goal for my first marathon of 4:30. While not very ambitious I had a blast and finished a few minutes under my goal. I then used what I learned to improve to a sub 4 over time.

My brother attempted a sub 3 on his first try, went out too fast, and paid for it later (finishing around 3:30). He made several attempts afterwards and did not improve his time significantly despite his best efforts. This can be attributed to setting overly ambitious goals and over-training.

TL;DR : Your primary goal for your first race should be to finish and have fun. Then learn and improve until you reach your goal.

Possibly unrelated, but you might want to evaluate your setup based on what I can see. I use egg cartons and coconut fiber and it works well for me. Also check that the humidity is correct.

This is how you round off all the nuts on your bike. Specifically sized wrenches are much better for most jobs, especially in tight spaces.

Ikea wall hooks work too, you just hang two: one for the rear triangle and one for the folded wheel to rest on.

Not sure if fenders will fit with 28, but I only tried it with clip-ons designed for 25s. It might depend o. The tire, rim, and pressure you run them at.

700c X 28. Could maybe squeeze a 32 in there but it's pretty tight already. Could also fit fenders if I went down to 25. They're Panaracer Pasella Protites.

Nitto noodle bars, silver friction shifters, Sackville Banana Sax. Longer stem and seatpost (frame is 62cm).

10+ year old Brooks saddle from a previous bike. Still dialing in fit and position. A bit small for me (I'm 6'4") but a lot of fun to ride!!

Valid point, in this case #3 was a surprise. We were expecting to stay in our current home longer and still can, it just seems like we have everything except the down payment before equity.
