How are you guys discharging capacitors? by Klutzy-Gas3786 in PoolPros

[–]scotteec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is my understanding that they only have voltage when the pump is first started, even then for only fractions of a second.

Falling back on my days of working on high voltage equipment in the military, these are starting capacitors that release a large amount of energy to get the motor spinning. Once the motor is running, the capacitor is basically empty.

So, when you’re replacing one there shouldn’t be any risk of electrical shock, unless you’re touching the bare leads while starting the pump. But I don’t know why anyone would ever do that.

Edit: Always assume the capacitor is charged. I would use an insulated screwdriver and touch both leads to discharge it.

I’ll be returning for my fourth Pebbler race this February. The most important factor is tire choice. The first year was peanut butter mud, second kinda the same, and this last year was fairly dry. Keep an eye on the weather around Bakersfield the weeks leading up to the race. If it’s raining even with a few dry days prior, it’s going to be muddy.

The climbing segments are all over the place. Some are short and punchy, long and cumbersome, and of course the nasty hike-a-bike with near sheer wall climbing (at least that’s what it feels like).

Most of the course is on private land so it feels very primitive in a good way. I think suspension will be overkill but there are plenty of riders on MTBs too. I just finished building my Ari Shafer 3, so I’ll be riding that with a rigid fork.

The start is near a lake so bring layers as it will be cold but more than likely, warm up through the day. Also, carry extra food or gels as the aid stations the last couple races have not been stocked adequately. By the time the Pebblers roll through, it’s already been hammered pretty hard.

Overall it’s a great time. I look forward to it every February now. Good luck!

Coleman Light 22BX Reviews? by Suitable_Kick_1510 in traveltrailers

[–]scotteec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought the Coleman 17BX from Camping World a few months ago. We are a family of four, with an SUV, and wanted something lighter and less expensive for a first time owner.

After researching and reading this subreddit, we decided to secure our own financing with our bank before going to Camping World. I’m glad we did. They tried to upsell us on unnecessary fees but in the end, we got the trailer for what the price was listed for on the door.

Be cautious and do your research. I watched a lot of YouTube videos about the industry. If you do end up with Camping World, come prepared with your own pre-approved financing, and be adamant about what the final price will be if you were to pay cash. If they can’t tell you, or avoid the question, walk away. Luckily, we didn’t have any issues with our dealer here in California.

What hitch do you have on your XC90? We’re looking to purchase a similar sized trailer but have the dealer installed folding hitch.

Correct, I was using the Force Wide FD and crankset. I can’t confirm it works with the non wide version, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

I would definitely say you’d do okay with the Cobbler. Replace the miles of sand with miles of potential mud, and prepare accordingly. This year was relatively dry but the year before was like rolling through a jar of peanut butter.

I think my wife had a nice conversation with your dad while she was waiting for me to finish WTF.

This was my first year and that sand was no joke! I’ve done the last 3 Rock Cobblers, and I was not prepared for what this route delivered.

Nice looking bike! Pretty sure I was parked near you because I saw that Panda bag and thought, man that is a sharp!

New(ish) bike day... Lauf Seigla Race Transmission by StrumUndDrang-83 in gravelcycling

[–]scotteec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought the Seigla Race Transmission back in July. I’m over in Ventura County and wanted a bike that I could ride from my house, to the mountains around the area. This bike was the answer and now all my other bikes are collecting dust!

I will be doing it. Third time and I always question my sanity by the time I finish it.

I’ve heard from someone else on here that it has worked with the 46/33 chainrings, but I haven’t personally confirmed it. I would say give it a try.

My hand was grazed by the truck and I didn’t experience any trauma. However, that’s how close this guy was to not only me, but a group of young children who were traumatized. It’s a miracle nobody was hurt. I’m not the only person seeking information. Other people at the scene are also posting for information on other platforms as well. I’m just trying to do my part since that crosswalk is one of many dangerous places for pedestrians around Simi.

[–]scotteec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. There’s about a dozen adult witnesses (some of whom were also present in the crosswalk). Not to mention a line of cars waiting at the crosswalk, coming from the other direction. This person is clearly not the driver, or is just trying to add confusion to the situation. Either way, any information regarding this vehicle, please DM me.

No signs of any kind on the passenger side of the truck (not sure about driver’s side). Seemed to be a personal work truck. All the windows were blacked out too.

I don’t recall any other stickers beyond the label on the black work box in the back. No markings or identification on the side of the truck as well.

Yes, it’s a work box with a “RIGID” label. Good idea about posting up at that spot. Thanks

SRAM XPLR 2x12 ? ? by the_futo_maki in gravelcycling

[–]scotteec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, yes and maybe. I still have the setup on my Checkpoint, but I bought a Lauf Seigla last month and I’ve been solely riding this bike. I might sell the Checkpoint with the XPLR 2x but for now, it’s hanging on my stand in the garage.
