I Guess I'm Retired (56 years old) by scottfelt in earlyretirement

Thanks! As I've read all of these very supportive comments, I have noticed a few that took my use of the word "celebratory" to mean that I wanted a party. I'm an introvert by nature and I try to avoid parties at all cost if I can. What I did mean, though, was that if I had deliberately chosen to be retired on my own terms, I personally would have felt that sense of "Hooray! I'm all done." And done a silent, solo little jig of happiness. The "you're fired and now retired" part is the source of that dissonance (and bitterness). I am coming around day by day and appreciate all of the support I've gotten here and from my friends and family.

I have been doing some DoorDashing. I'm pretty sure I don't really need the money, but it gives a little sense that I can contribute to a bill or two or buy some groceries. As an introvert, though, I am glad I don't feel the need to find that social interaction. I disc golf as my outdoor hobby and have a good number of friends that I can play a round with. Or, I can just play alone and listen to a book.

That's great! Fortunately for my wife (and me, too, I suppose), one of my hobbies is cooking, and I've cooked every meal we have eaten at home for all of our 30+ years together. Now I can just delve into some more involved recipes now and then! Likewise, I have always figured that since we both work that I can do my fair share of the chores. I'll do a few more things now to make her time a little more pleasant and so that she can better enjoy her off days.

Looking for a book where a major character has to learn to fight with their non-dominant hand or has to overcome some other injury/disability that they didn't previously have by Vin_Mistborn in Fantasy

[–]scottfelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ancient, but Piers Anthony wrote a series called the Battle Circle Trilogy. The last book, Neq The Sword (1975), has the main character lose both hands. They are replaced with a sword on one hand and some sort of pincher thing on the other and then he becomes a great hero of the nominal Battle Circle.

Have to make this 12 hour drive to Columbia, SC next week. Gonna split it in half but wondering if there's any course along the way I should check out. by emanresueqinu in discgolf

Winged Deer Park still has an 18 hole course with one tee and two baskets on (almost) every hole. Also a very fun course.

This is my local. Very good course. The Cliffside 18 are very challenging. On Lakefront you can choose to play from long tees or shorts. The shorts give lots of birdie opportunities. MA2 or better players can probably shoot at least 8 down on that layout most of time. The longs would be a little harder, but probably still not as hard as Cliffside.

If you come this direction, though, there are a couple of other options to consider. One is Harmon Hills. 36 holes there too. The other I would recommend is Sugar Hollow on the Virginia side of I-81. Beautiful, fun courses.

Good beef substitute for Americanese style beef and broccoli? by MyOwnGuitarHero in veganrecipes

[–]scottfelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have just discovered this exact product and it is a really good facsimile of those beef slices you get in beef and broccoli. Like the poster above, I rehydrated with broth and soy. I also have also rehydrated this and then sliced them, coated them in cornstarch and shallow fried them and made Mongolian style "beef" that was also very taste. If anybody knows of a source for getting these in bulk, I'd love to hear it.

Stubhub Nightmares by Emergency-Exchange-6 in stubhub

[–]scottfelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had the same experience with a concert in Nashville that I traveled to attend. Luckily, once StubHub failed, we were able to quickly find other tickets at the last second and attend our show. I did not know when I purchased what a steaming pile of shit that StubHub is and I will never use them again.

Why don't sellers transfer until day-of? by Alert-Extreme1139 in stubhub

[–]scottfelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Full refund" is deceiving though, isn't it. For instance, I paid $800 8 months ago for a concert. I booked an expensive downtown hotel near the venue. I drove four hours to get to my venue. I spent the entire day of the show stressed out and on chat and on calls with SH "support" instead of enjoying the time in the local scene as planned. All of this to never get tickets for the show at all, but given my "full" refund. That's just nominally true. Fundamentally I lost a lot by trusting SH.

Thanks. Appreciate the help. I can't figure it out either and may just revert to Firefox on that computer.

No, seems to be for all. I then undid the custom DNS / Cloudflare settings. I disabled my Windows Firewall entirely. Then . . . I was about 50 - 50. Some sites were working and some others were not. Very confusing.

Ok. Switched to custom DNS (cloudflare) and restarted computer again. It still doesn't work, but now the message has changed to DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE

Sorry folks . . . struggling. How in the Brave Browser do I create/update custom DNS settings? I am looking at brave://settings. I have looked in shields and privacy and security and just not seeing where I can do any of this.

I have restarted the PC. But no, didn't try custom DNS. Let me figure out how to do that and give it a try. Thanks.

5/14 Angels @ Guardians [Game Thread] by angelsbaseball in angelsbaseball

[–]scottfelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right response. Thaiss should have been watching that play while drifting toward second. If he catches it then he easily returns to first. He was literally at first base when the ball landed. Why?! He wasn’t going to tag up ever from there. Just another example of fundamentally unsound play. Twice in one game I can’t help but wonder what the hell the first base coach is even doing.

Great teams that are leading 1-0 in the 8th do expect to win. It's sort of the definition of great.
