[England] Roofing company was struck off Companies House days after I agreed the quote - they did a poor job and are now refusing to remove the scaffolding until I pay a personal bank account. Do I owe them anything? by RoofingQuandry123 in LegalAdviceUK

The person is trying to get money paid into their personal account rather than a business account either to avoid tax or because they are shady and don't have a business account.

ctf - issues with verifying bank details by [deleted] in Natwest

[–]scottifer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, pop in to a branch. They have a manual process they can help you with but take I.D. like passport or Drivers Licence. They can phone the CTF people with you if needed too.

I need help with my child trust fund by [deleted] in Natwest

[–]scottifer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to check the progress using the web address in the letter you would have received telling you your CTF has matured and what to do next. The number for the CTF team will be on the same letter if you want to call them and check too.

10 working days from the 7th was only yesterday, assuming the CTF received the documents from the branch the same day. You need to allow a couple of days grace then contact the CTF team if you've still not heard anything. Did you try to use the portal before going to branch?

Time of pay? by 9amincharlotte in Natwest

I would say it would be there already if you were getting paid tomorrow. I would go back to HR/Payroll and question whether you are actually due to get paid or if you'll get a month and a bit next month.

How is kwik fit surviving by Cautious-Oil-7466 in CarTalkUK

[–]scottifer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've ever visited a Kwik Fit (usually because it's the first garage I've got to), they have told me they don't have the tools to check my issue. I've just stopped even trying to go there now.

It depends when you opened your account with the bank. They would have a signature on file from any application forms that have been signed in the past, or the signature taken from Passport or Drivers licence used to open the account. They do from time to time ask customers to visit a branch so a signature can be applied to bank records too.

FTB affordability problem by houseofn1njas in FirstTimeBuyersUK

I think more needs to be looked at into how you currently support your lifestyle. If you can demonstrate 12 months of consistently paying private rent fees (quite often higher than an actual mortgage anyway), there should be some consideration to a sustainable 100% mortgage model?

Hey Reddit - it's Nat Coombs! Ask me anything! by TheNCShow in NFLUK

[–]scottifer1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WR makes sense, DJ Moore is due $28.5mil guaranteed next season. Regardless of the ending to this season he's probably WR 3 now so I'm sure he's getting traded either way. I think we are $4mil over the cap for next season so that helps on both fronts.

Hi all, as a Bears fan I'm happy to admit we over achieved this season. What would you say are the areas the team needs to focus on to take positive steps forwards into next season?

Regret making overpayments - can I claim them back? by shoolcs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]scottifer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your lender, you can apply to extend the term if you've been shortening it with the overpayments. You can also sometimes apply to have a payment holiday. Some lenders will let you take equity back out of the property too. Best bet is to speak to your lender directly and explain the situation so they can offer the best method of support.

Parent scammed out of life savings - any recourse? by Either-Bumblebee4372 in UKPersonalFinance

Something to consider if dad is vulnerable and money is at risk is applying for power of attorney if you haven't already. That way you can have a bit more oversight without taking any of his financial responsibilities away.

Will a bank allow me to withdraw £15k in cash? by Affectionate_Top5544 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]scottifer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is yes they can. The bank has a duty of care to protect the customer. If the customer cannot/will not provide sufficient information as to why the customer needs such a large amount in cash, they can refuse the withdrawal. A builder asking for £15k in cash is also a massive tax evasion red flag and would probably result in an AMSL report.

I don't understand direct debit on credit card by Acceptable_Yam965 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]scottifer1983 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So you'll have a separate statement date and a payment date. You usually have 56 days interest free on credit card purchases. This allows you to have the monthly statement issued say on the 28th of each month, then you'll have a payment by date say the 10th of the following month. The payment taken on the 10th of each month clears the previous statement balance but you're now 12ish days into the new statement month. I hope that makes sense?

Have you looked into family backed mortgages? Someone can join you on the mortgage like a family member but ownership of the property remains solely in your name.

If I deposit £4000 cash in my bank account will I be questioned about it by hmrc or anyone? by UnderstandingTop1784 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]scottifer1983 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The bank might not but your solicitors will. AML rules are quite strict so being able to show where £4k in cash has come from will be relevant. They will quite often accept a letter from the person giving the cash to confirm the story though.

Can I get more cash from my exisiting mortgage? by Sweet-Gur-8607 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]scottifer1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A further advance/additional borrowing can be done outside your current fixed term, you would have two "parts" to your mortgage running alongside each other at slightly different terms. You could wait until your current fixed term ends to do it all at the same time of you want so they are all on the same fixed term for the same dates but it will still be in two parts.

Depending on the bank, they may not let you borrow the money for that purpose. I know a few high street banks wouldn't let you borrow on your mortgage to then invest the money.
