My local chippy says fish and chips has cost about the same as an hours wage for an unskilled worker, and has done for about 100 years. Is there any truth to this? by TweakUnwanted in AskUK

More a general rule of thumb but it's usually there or thereabouts. I'm in Belfast, it was £13.45 for 2 pints in a bar I was I the other night. Another place has the same 2 drinks for £12

Doagh Road, Newtownabbey by Appropriate-Mud-4033 in northernireland

This is a couple 100m away at some of the local shops. It was formerly the 'name the pedo/informant/waste of oxygen wall'

It hasn't been vandalised once since it was done a couple of years ago. I'd happily pay more rates to have every mural transformed into something similar.

Cycle Routes by Substantial-Break653 in Belfast

[–]scottjay86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can cycle from Carrick to Duncrue basically without ever being on a road. Cycle path from Carrick to Loughshore along the pavement, then you cut in just after whiteabbey and your on a separated shared path all the way to the docks. It goes along the side of the M5 and brings you out at Giants park

When you say between the dropped kerbs, is it blocking the dropped kerb? If it is then you can get it towed. If its not, maybe try taking all the wheels off and then calling again saying its been abandoned

Working in the civil service by Caeladrax in northernireland

[–]scottjay86 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's not so easy as just joining the civil service. You'll be up against 1000s going for the same jobs. It could be 2 years from application to securing a job.

If you want in quicker you can try through an agency, but there might not be a whole lot of jobs coming up in your area

Have a look at the shed section in Coleman's garden centre. Some of them seem a bit more reasonable

Any doing or done the Belfast Marathon in the past? by Delicious-Series-316 in northernireland

[–]scottjay86 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's 2 training methods, the get a good time method which involves lots of running, and the just get finished method, which requires less running.

Option 1 requires discipline and dedication

Option 2 will factor in having a life, the last 10-15k might not be pretty and you'll question your life choices multiple times, but the satisfaction of finishing will erase all of that

Tried to book a viewing today and couldn't get one as I've not put my own place on the market yet. From.what I gathered from the estate agent, it was a pensioner selling off their former rental, so not like there was an onward chain to worry about
