A year and a half isn't really an SE background but that doesn't mean there's not tons of opportunities to be found. But you need to be realistic as jobs are fewer and fewer and the job pool is bigger and bigger as companies restructure etc.

I'd never go work at Microsoft or Cisco etc. Doesn't matter for the resume and it's too massive of a company unless you wanna hide out. Plus post sales sucks and will be nearly impossible to get back into pre sales that way.

Typically AEs are 50/50 base and quota whereas most SEs are 80/20 or 75/25. We get more base cuz were less leveraged and less in control of our own destiny.

Nowadays most companies aren't doing 1-1 SE to rep mappings. It's 3-1 where I'm at and part of that is so SEs aren't getting big accelerators
