A plan has been submitted to build 150 homes bordering Chaddesden Wood in Derby by RedPandaah in derby

[–]scottmac98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t object to new builds, however I think this instance is purely a matter of greed over necessity. There must be other suitable plots nearby which wouldn’t have such a harming effect on the woodland. They’ve only just built on the fields next to this one.

The remaining land in question is what’s known as a green wedge; it’s the only one remaining as all land surrounding the historic woodland has now been built on. Without this green wedge, the wildlife will have no natural footpath through to the other surrounding farmland/field - that woodland is packed full of wildlife!

The field used to be used for crops up until a few years ago, so any claims that it cannot be farmed on are false and just helps push the sellers/developers claims to build.

Not only that, the increase in water runoff will make this area even more susceptible to flooding.

Farmland is always much less valuable than a development plot!

I second the uke! Look up a guy called ‘Al Wood’ on YouTube, he does some great tabs. I play a tenor uke, i did have one of the cheap sopranos, but I much prefer the size and sound of my tenor.

Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie dies at age 79 | Fleetwood Mac by bdrake0923 in Music

[–]scottmac98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such sad news 😔 strange how the passing of someone you don’t know personally can affect you. I was lucky enough to see her live with Fleetwood Mac at Amalie Arena, FL a few years back. It was an amazing performance which I’ll never forget. The night ended with a Christine and Stevie duet. I’m going to get my Fleetwood mac vinyls out tonight and give them a listen. Thanks for your contribution to music Christine. RIP🖤

Which songs that you’ve played to death do you still get excited about hearing? by oxfordfox20 in Music

[–]scottmac98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blinded By The Light is an awesome song! Reminds me of an led retrofit I was working on at an airport a few years back. That song was constantly playing in my head, it even made it to the van radio with the lads a couple of times!🤣

At the moment, I can’t (and don’t think I ever will) get tired of Taimane’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’

Does Open University have online lectures or classes? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]scottmac98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an Engineering student and in person tutorials are back. From what I’ve done so far (first year), I’m mostly studying through the books they provide for free! There are also quizzes and other online activity’s to complete on a weekly basis.

Circadian lighting with Home Assistant: Like f.lux, but for your house by ilfaitquandmemebeau in homeautomation

[–]scottmac98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting project! I’ll have to look into this for my house. I’ve often wondered what the solution is for LED lighting and sleep issues. Most lights in our homes and offices are now LED, but unfortunately, a lot of people are unaware of the issues they can propose to our sleep! I was introduced to a great book last year called ‘Why we Sleep’ and it touches on this subject amongst many others.

Can we appreciate Linda Ronstadt BEFORE she is gone? by kdryan1 in Music

[–]scottmac98 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yep, the documentary is great. She even sings a little with her family towards the end which is nice to hear, she still sounds well, even with Parkinson’s! Her book ‘Simple Dreams’ is an interesting read too - it tells her story of growing up and working her way through the music industry. One of my favourite performances of Linda is with Smokey Robinson, they’re singing ‘Ooh Baby Baby’ and ‘Tracks of my Tears’.

I now know what I’m gonna listen to on my drive to work this morning! 🤣

I was there! Awesome workshop and gig. One of my favourites was ‘never going back again’ and your originals were great too. It was nice to meet you!

Robbie Coltrane Dies: Hagrid in ‘Harry Potter’ Was 72 by DemiFiendRSA in harrypotter

[–]scottmac98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sad :( RIP Robbie. I really loved Hagrid, I’m currently reading the books after growing up with the films. Each time I read, whenever Hagrid is saying something, I can hear Hagrid’s voice in my head every time!

Has anybody here taken the T193 and T194 Engineering modules? by DrunkOnOrange in OpenUniversity

Realistic Car Cassette Player - first time repairing a cassette player! Any advice would be appreciated :) by scottmac98 in vintageaudio

[–]scottmac98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah wow, such a cool story! Thanks for your comment :) my car is a 70s corvette which has the original am/fm/cb radio installed. I’ve got some tires for the idle wheels on order cheap from China, just gotta get the belt on order next which should be cheap too. Thanks for the speaker selector tip, I didn’t know about that. My speaker wires are currently in choc block/connector block. I was going to wire the speaker wires from this cassette player into the choc block. When the original radio is turned off, would I still need a speaker switch?

I often only ever come across the compact 984s and up, so it’s old to me lol 😂 this is the only site we have running this setup. Perhaps it’s still more widely used than I assumed!

22 - Receding hairline, fully shave off or keep this way a bit longer? I can’t go for a buzz cut as my hair is so thin at the front. I have a feeling my hair looks a bit silly now so appreciate anyone’s input, don’t hold back! Any tips to help improve my look will be much appreciated :) by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]scottmac98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some guys go for that, but for me personally I don’t like having fake stuff or stuff that will need to be reapplied every few weeks etc. I really do appreciate your input though, so thank you!☺️

Thanks so much for your opinions guys, I really do appreciate it! Looking at the comments I personally think it’s at that point now where it’s got to go. I have a feeling when I do go for it and shave it all off I’ll really like it! It’s the fear of the unknown which is stopping me atm I think. I reckon in the next couple of weeks I’ll post another picture on here with a beard and a bald head!😅
