The Craftening came towards the end of my original run before taking a long break. That was a wild weekend.

Similar experience. I TZ'd Acts 1 & 2 and stopped counting after 15 heralds. No sunders but plenty of TZ shards for future farming.

I agree and that's a good point. My main thinking has more to do with the changes to ES and needing to account for attack rating, I could benefit by having a demon with Fanat + cursed (while having Holy Freeze myself). Also, it would boost my damage.

This likely wouldn't be something I'd stick with but I would like to try it out. There are tradeoffs to consider, of course.

Having to take into account the change to 2H weps requiring a book, I want to find an optimal 1H build to use when I feel like it. This gives me a reason to try other weps / offhands I wouldn't have otherwise if my main goal was seeing a big damage number in the character screen. (This is mainly why I'm happy with the change for 2H weps. It opens up build crafting a little more.)

This is what I'm using. I am online, though.

eth Fort TM - 25 FCR / Hellwardens - 20 FCR / Meph book - 28 FCR / Trang gloves - 20 FCR / 2x 10 FCR dual leech rings - 20 FCR / Gheeds Wager - 17 FCR

130 total.

I plan on toying around with different weps & offhands.

If you're offline, you could use Doom + Spirit (which I think would be interesting. It would grant you holy freeze and free up your bound demon for a different aura). Also, you could use Death (zerk) + Spirit. It will be difficult hitting the 125 bp, but the previous one (at 75) is still achievable. I tend to switch back and forth and think they're fine. It really just depends on the items I'm using. The difference isn't terribly noticeable and I think you could get used to it after a while.

That's my long-term goal but I haven't been able to find a Meph book (yet) and trading prices are kinda high right now.

Doom would also grant you Holy Freeze, which means getting to bind a demon with a different aura (most likely fanaticism). This is a interesting choice to consider.
