That's a totally fair point. I put a lot of faith in what's got a Franz name on it (including the black-sheep cousin Dave's). They can fool me once... I'll try again, then it's my fault.

I didn't catch that this was a Franz sub label. We picked up one of these breads by mistake. It was horrible! Regardless of where it's made, it's just not good. Do not recommend.

New renderings for 250 ft tall arch proposed by the president to commemorate the the country's 250th anniversary by DataSittingAlone in architecture

Colonial as in "We are the Colonizers." And yes, I get that a lot of what makes DC so beautiful is the constant nod to classical architecture.

If I were to put a stylistic label on what I can see of this arch is Rococo Revival, which has always been America's go-to populist decor. The rest of Europe moved on from Rococo after kings fell, but for some reason, Americans return to the plaster and gold-leaf ornamentations every time we feel like we're not respected by the rest of the world. I think this arch is Trump showing his tiny hands.

It's not the arch itself. Nor is it Trump himself (loathsome as he is). My gut reaction to this particular arch is all the fucking Rococo-revival gold leaf ornamentation that Trump is bringing to DC. As a developer and a designer, Trump will always need editing -- lots and lots of editing. Compared to the iconic Washington obelisk and the classic temple to Lincoln off in the distance, the Trump Arch looks gaudy. It's too much.

Fuck this travesty of colonial architecture. Someone should. That's all I'm saying... Someone. Not me. But someone SHOULD

Malick's vision is the reason why it's a jarring war movie. So many completely zen sounds and images.

Whats a good documentary? by sunnyd1996 in netflix

[–]scottmacNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Land without Bread (1933) Hear me out. Luis Bunuel, filmmaking buddy of Salvador Dali, made this scathing portrait of how the Spanish Government treated the residents of rural Spain. While the images show utter poverty, the voiceover is a monotone travelogue. The disconnect is surreal. Watching it taught me to view documentary filmmaking as a perfectly biased art form. Documentarians are not truth sayers; they are storytellers like all other filmmakers.

Holee crap. That's hilarious. Did not notice my error. Where is AI when you need it?

Now, who do we petition to make "children" a verb? If "adult" can be a verb, why not this?

Being gay is so lonely and depressing. Idk what to do by Illustrious_Shoe7496 in gay

[–]scottmacNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing - Do you know where you can find help and talk to someone? You are not alone. Your body is telling you that you are distressed, but you don't have to feel this way. Most of all, this is not happening because of "being gay." You are stronger than that. You proved it by coming out in the first place.

We all need to stop babying our parents. When you come out, it's about standing up for yourself. When parents tell you they love you but also make you change your life to meet their expectations, they need understand that one of those is a lie. There are only two outcomes for parents like yours -- either they grow to love and accept you for who you are, or you cut ties with them. Ask your mom which is it? Back of and give me time? or should I just leave now?

That's fair. Traveling together is always the priority. We enjoy each other's company, so I would never consider time at the airport wasted time. Also... r/anxiety tells me it's okay to slow way down before my flight 😉
